You don’t often burst into song that often, but you sometimes feel in that kind of mood… of playing the violin. Of doing something… of wanting to entertain others, no matter what it took, even if you had different means of doing it. This time you had a large crowd, which was a bit surprising, then again the chances of any kind of crowds is always surprising to you, somehow or another.

When you finished playing, you put your violin away into its case, for the meanwhile. As you were closing the case, you hear someone approach you from behind, and turn around looking at whoever it was…

… To be greeted by an Elf? You hadn’t thought you would meet any Elves in this city, so surprise comes over your face, but when he speaks, you can’t help but blush. 

“Ah… someone I knew had taught me. He and another person had pretty much taught me all I knew about play music… Thanks.”

“I see! Your teachers must have been wonderful in their instruction, if you are able to play a song like that.” 

This song was not from Eorzea, he knew that. Of course he did - this individual didn’t seem like they came from his home, nor did the song have the achingly familiar tones of his world. 

And yet...it was music, all the same, and music moved the soul. It was energizing to hear - revitalizing, in a way that encouraged one to pursue their own goals for the day, after seeing someone enjoy their passions.

Songs were strange like that, weren’t they?

“I hope I wasn’t bothering you with my question. It’s been quite some time since I was allotted the time to hear a performance.”

Fiala never really was much of a dancer. She was mostly there to people watch and see how others on this island behaved. Maybe pick up some notes on what people were wearing for potential future use. So when she was approached for a dance, she almost wanted to refuse.  But the voice was so achingly familiar that she can’t help but see who it was.

“Well, I’m not normally one for dancin’. But since you asked so nicely–”

“Haurchefant….!?”

This was a joke Some kind of dream. A horrible misunderstanding, even. Surely it had to be… There was just no way.

Right?

He blinks, watching the expression on the woman’s face grow, as his own look changed to one of uncertain confusion. 

She knew his name but he...no, no matter how much he looked her over, a name could not come to mind. Haurchefant endeavored to memorize the names of everyone he met, so to meet someone who knew of him, but who he didn’t know in turn...

Perhaps a trick of this world? Or perhaps, a citizen of Ishgard he had never had the privilege of knowing. 

“Pardon my confusion, but have we met before? You seem to know perfectly well who I am, but I’m failing to recall your name.”

i’m planning on getting my stuff done this week so...might as well have a little fun! here’s an event starter call for haurchefant...but if you’re writing a Warrior of Light - i’m going to be having a little fun with this!

i’ll be writing haurchefant as a data imprint. so if your character had a specific relationship with him; i’ll be dm’ing to figure out what that was, and i’ll have the imprint recognize your character! 

if you just want standard haurchefant instead of an imprint - he’ll be walking around trying to help anyone out with the imprints they’re seeing! consider him a personal cheerleader that will trail after you and cheer you on.

i’ll cap this at two for now, but castmates will not count towards this cap!

So, there were bards in this world as well, were there?

That was Haurchefant’s first thought as he found himself in a crowd of onlookers as someone performed a song on a street corner. Though he had never actually seen a spontaneous performance like this himself, Meteor had been kind enough to share a few stories of the bards hailing from Gridana with him on cold evenings in the Falling Snows while they were awaiting word back from his father, so that he and the other two remaining scions would have a place to hide away from the crime pinned over their heads.

Well. Even if they weren’t a bard, it would be rather rude not to compliment their performance wouldn’t it? 

After their song was complete and the crowd thinned enough for him to get closer, he stood before Freiya and offered a smile before speaking.

“That was a lovely performance! Might I ask where you learned to play that song?”

Exploring the city proper lead to a great many confusing realizations. 

For starters, Haurchefant found that he hardly knew of any of the technology offered. They didn’t use linkpearls for communication, they didn’t use chocobos to get around faster, nor did they use airships. To go even further, it seemed the specific area he had been granted a house in seemed to be...well, just a bunch of different forms of technology and architectural styles mixed together. 

It was...incredibly fascinating! Why, exploring like this was just a grand adventure, was it not? 

And how fortunate it was that it seemed he was not the only one exploring - even more so what it was a Roegadyn he spotted. Yet another individual he could plainly spot hailing from Eorzea. 

“Pardon me!” The elezen hurried over to the other, a bright smile on his face. 

“It’s so very good to see a familiar individual here. Might I ask how long you’ve resided in this city, my friend? I’m trying to acquaint myself with everything, so perhaps we could aid one another.”

Again and again, more people from home caught his eye.

Certainly, Haurchefant did not recognize any of them specifically; could not call them out by name even if he tried, but knowing there were others was comfort enough for him. Though he had to wonder what the pattern was in those being pulled here. 

Were all of these individuals adventurers he had yet to meet? Perhaps they belonged to guilds in other cities, travelers from other nations, or people coming from other continents looking for something new? What was the tie that brought them all here?

Ah well. It likely wasn’t something any of them knew either, so there wasn’t much of a point in worrying over it, so long as it wasn’t rooted in some malicious act yet to be uncovered. For now, enjoying the soiree that was presented to them was a better course of action.

“I couldn’t help but notice you here on your own,” the knight began after approaching the miqo’te woman that caught his eye, a smile on his face. “So I hope I am not being too forward in asking if you’d like to share the next dance with me?”

Dances were always a lovely way to lift the spirits...or so he recalled his step-mother saying before promptly kicking him out of the house for the evening before one of her little gatherings so he wouldn’t “ruin the mood”.

Well, he never quite minded. Her doing so let him train to be a knight instead of being cooped up in the house with a bunch of people he hardly knew...and it allowed him to meet one of his dearest friends.

But he was not going to be kicked out here, and it allowed him an opportunity to meet new people in this new world. People who could, hopefully, explain to him what was going on, and why he was here.

It was surprising, however, Haurchefant couldn’t help but think, how many people seemed to be from the very world he was pulled from.

That gentleman over there...he was a miqo’te after all, wasn’t he? Unless this world harbored a similar race of there own...yes, that definitely was a miqo’te...! Another person who could understand exactly the predicament he was in. He seemed to be alone at the moment, so the elezen politely made his way across the ballroom to approach the other, a smile on his face.

“A sight for sore eyes you are, my friend! The more I look around, the more pleased I am to see we aren’t the only ones pulled from Eorzea. If I am not being so presumptuous in assuming you also hail from Hydaelyn?” 

Broadening it out to the world as a whole could probably help figure out if this person truly did share the same home as him...

He had wandered across it completely on accident. 

Just one, small, out of place stone that seemed so fascinatingly out of place, that he couldn’t help but press it out of curiosity. For it to lead into an entirely new area of the castle...! Well, it was too exciting to ignore. Even if, upon entering the room, he was left completely clueless as to its features. 

Some things he recognized, though. Throwing axes and cards which read your fortunes - both things you could find around Ishgard. Perhaps not in the same way, but it could be found. 

It seemed like most of these games were to be done with two or more people - so better to find someone to enjoy them with! It took only a moment to spot someone who seemed to be on their own, approaching with a smile and a small wave.

“Are you looking for someone to partner with for one of these activities? Quite honestly, I didn’t expect so see something like this at a soiree but...it seems fun, does it not?”

I think Haurchefant is a bit of an in between! While it is confirmed in other translations of the game, and a bit in his letter to the Warrior of Light in the short...novel, I guess you could call it, that Haurchefant is in love with the Warrior of Light and actively sought out a relationship with them ( I'm looking at the translation where he just straight up asks the WoL if they'd like to join him for the evening ) I don't think he minds being single!

If the WoL prefers to be friends with him, he's completely fine with that!

edelwiss : what was the bravest moment in your muse’s life? are they known to be courageous from then on?

There are two moments in Haurchefant's life that I think he was the bravest. Naturally, one of them is one all who have played the game know well, so I won't touch on that!

The other is when he rescued Francel from his kidnappers. I think I've seen it around to where Elezens don't finish puberty and reach proper adulthood until twenty years old - so imagining a seventeen year old tracking down and murdering three seasoned grown men with only a hunting knife is something I'd say takes a lot of bravery. Especially when, despite not having anything to protect himself, he took an arrow to the arm to keep himself and Francel safe.

Definitely from then on out he was as courageous as always! That's something that's never changed about him.

gladiolus : describe a moment from your muse’s life that they will never forget.

This is probably the easiest and shortest answer I'll be able to give. Haurchefant will never forget meeting the Warrior of Light. They caused such a positive impact on his life; it's hard to forget someone like that, especially when they're so dear to your heart.

basil : does your muse have a love - hate relationship with anyone or anything?

Honestly, I can't think of anything. Even to those he disagrees with or feels distant from - his father before the plot of Heavensward, for example - he expresses an understanding of the other side. I don't think he has a love-hate dynamic with anything!

bay tree : does your muse seek glory & accolades, or do they favour a simpler, more personal life ?

Despite being a knight with a commander's position for an outpost - Haurchefant, through his actions in Heavensward, I think prove that he's not a knight for any sense of glory, for titles - nothing like that. He even cares little for his status as technically being a son of a high house, even if he's a bastard one.

As long as he's making a positive difference, I think he's fully happy with a more simple, personal lifestyle! He's shown to be close with all those he works with, both in Ishgard and in Camp Dragonhead, despite their standings in society. He's just a simple, kind guy!

begonia : how cautious is your muse? are they prone to noticing red flags, or paranoid to the point of untrusting most everyone? why or why not?

I would say Haurchefant is of the least cautious of the Ishgardian Elezens. He goes directly against the stereotype the others of his race hold in that he's willing to welcome in everyone and anyone - no matter their status or their race.

However, I wouldn't say he isn't cautious. He's not paranoid, not by a long shot, but he's been shown to notice red flags before anyone else - the incident in The Vault and the bandits that kidnapped Francis as a child, to use as examples - but he's also shown to act before he thinks things through in moments of immediate danger. Given time to prepare? He thinks things through and tries to get others to do the same!

Haurchefant would much rather trust people than suspect them, and prefers to stay cautious, but doesn't hesitate to act in the face of danger.

rhododendron : is your muse receptive to warnings & advice given by others?

At times, yes. While Haurchefant will certainly listening to the concerns, warnings, and advice of others...he's also quite headstrong in his morals and his beliefs. He finds no greater joy - no greater purpose - than living and serving as a knight. If he can accomplish that in a just and noble way; he is more than happy to ignore anything others may have told him, to see it happen.

zinnia : how has the loss of fallen comrades and/or loved ones affected your muse? has it taught them anything or given them any new perspectives?

Haurchefant... is one of those fallen comrades. The first of them, actually.

He was the first character out of those the Warrior of Light was close with in Heavensward that passed - as Ysayle perished after he did. Haurchefant, during Heavensward at the very least, didn't witness the death of any notable characters. Except - he's a knight commander for an outpost in the middle of a thousand year war.

He seems to hold the mindset of continuing forward, even when your comrades fall, as he expresses to Alphinaud when he and the Warrior of Light first arrive in Camp Dragonhead. I'm certain he's seen many people die in fights - friends, allies, comrades, those he loved - but Haurchefant believes there is no greater duty served in life, than one served to aid and protect others.

Everyone fights for a cause, and it's the duty of those who survive to smile and face the future for those who fell.
