Text
I get to work in Seattle now and walk down the same streets Avery use to,
I try and think the way he would, confident and joyful for the day; tasting opportunity on the tip of his tongue.
I will try it ‘Avery’s’ way as well.

Within every poem is a desperate attempt to answer a question that’s been keeping the author up at night.

Avery:
a month since you've been gone. it feels like it was just yesterday i got the phone call. all the days have been a blur, except that one. the day the police officer said so bluntly you were dead- i screamed out in such agony as the phone was ripped from my hands. I was the first to know big brother that you would no longer be able to tell me about your day, or see your excited face of inspiration at the thought of doing something new, no more of your political speech making to win someone over, no more late night talks as you drunkenly tell me you loved me, no more anime marathons, or seeing your face turn bright red after eating spicy food, no more will you shyly ask me if your outfit was perfect before a date, no more of your skinny guy hugs that meant the world to me. I wonder how I will do it on my own without you? You were always doing everything for me just as a big brother should do. watching over me, you would roll your eyes, but I know you loved helping. Are you watching over me now? Do you know how much I miss you? Will you ever see these words written on this page? I don’t know... I can’t stop crying now. I only know one thing for sure and that is I will never forget you.
