How I feel knowing that (CANONICALLY) there are drivers who’ve ran off and hidden with their engines to avoid them getting scrapped

I’ve been thinking on how engine culture was before ww1 which I know is very random but fun. Especially in regards to Victorian culture and how that effect the way that engines were “brought up”. Like think about it an engine like Edward was raised very different to an engine from Gordon’s time.

I believe that most Victorian railway controllers had the same approach with children that they did engines, this was obviously not how engines work. But this is all they’ve ever known, they are trained to never speak unless spoken too and to always smile and look good for the people.

Of course not everything is different in the 1920’s but engines seem more likely to stand up to people that they think are being unfair. For example look at the strike that the big engines put on. I don’t think that an Victorian era raised engine would have ever dreamed of stand up to their controller for any reason, especially on just for needing to shunt.

Look at Edward who was raised in the late Victorian era as an express engine. When the strike first started I’m pretty sure his reaction was “Wtf are they even doing, this is absolutely insane” because of how he was trained to never speak his mind or say any opposing opinions to the railway.

This may also be a sodor thing and just sodor’s culture when it comes to the engines. Sodor has always been a kind place for engines and I bet it must have been crazy culture shock when Edward arrived to help in ww1. I bet Thomas also probably had to deal with that as well because he was probably run in on his own railway before being shipped to sodor.

Holy cow this was wayyyy longer than I expected to write but if you guys want me to write your suggestions I would love to.

2 days to go until the anniversary!

Continuing my sudric obsession, I’m mourning the fact that we only have one complete sentence in sudric.

“Nagh Buerla” which translates to “I haven’t English” however we can figure out some other words from the names of engines and towns. (Note: if any of this is incorrect please tell me I’m using the wiki page for my research.)

Some of the words that I find interesting are:

- Kirk translate to church, so Kirk Ronan mean church of Ronan and the same applies to Kirk Machan

- Peel translates to tower of refuge, therefore Peel Godred translates to Godred’s tower of refuge.

If you guys want to check out all the other meanings to town names I suggest checking out the wiki on it. It’s really fascinating how awdry created a whole new language for this island.

AHHHHHHHH!!!! I know!!!! I’ve always thought that they would have spoke sudric as their primary language until sir Handel and Peter Sam arrived. After that they switched over to English for their sake.

I’ve been thinking about skarloey and rheneas speaking sudric for a few days. Like I know that they are given welsh accent in the late cgi era as a nod to the Talyllyn railway. But them having really thick sudric accents is so cool to me for no reason.

silly headcanon that Skarloey and Rheneas know how to play chess inside their mind

(*Skarloey and Rheneas waiting their driver for their run this morning*)

Rheneas: "Hey, Skarloey. I'm a little bored. Let's play some chess."

Skarloey: "Okay."

Duncan: "How can you two play chess if there's no chessboard or drivers to move your piec-?"

Rheneas: "Pawn D7 moves to D5."

Skarloey: "Pawn D2 moves to D4."

Rheneas: "Knight B8 moves to C6."

Skarloey: "That's a very evil opening right there, Rheneas. Knight B1 to C3."

Engine names short analysis (like really short)

So I’ve been thinking about how engines names have changed over time. I mean look at the difference between how steam engines are named vs how diesel engines are named

For what I can tell a lot of steam engines have kings names or biblical names (I.e look at james, Edward, Henry)

While diesel engines have a lot more obscure names that are more likely to be descriptive. (I.e look at Boco, who is called that because of his cobo wheel base, rusty, his color in the tv series, bear, due to his loud engine.) also I know that not every diesel engine has a crazy name, I mean look at daisy and mavis.

From the bottom of my heart I hate the Thomas bible. Especially the fact that they portray all of the engines as children. This takes away from SOO many characters, engines like Edward, Henry, and Toby’s character were changed so much that is just a different person at the end of the day

So that's why Henry's char got inverted, and why everyone just seems to be shattered shells of their former selves. A style guide written by people with no feeling for railways, locomotives, mildly complex story telling or even consistency of character.

HELLO!!!!!

I’m Sir Haydn complains or just Haydn!!!!!

I’ve been in the ttte community for a LONG time but I’ve never posted anything until now.

I will be posting my analysis and modern world building for ttte (basically my take on how a world with talking machines would be)

English is my first language however that does not mean I’m very good at it so just wish me luck.
