Leia is also willing to let go of her son when she realizes that he likely won't come back from the dark, unlike Padme with Anakin. And unlike Padme, it's her faith and love that brings back Ben from the darkside.
People are SLEEPING on the most interesting Leia & Padme comparisons because there's so much focus on Leia being "like Anakin" because she gets annoyed sometimes and Padme being this perfect moral beacon of truth and justice despite all of her very canonical lies and cover-ups and obstructing of justice.
If Luke is the Jedi that Anakin should've been, then Leia is the LEADER that Padme should've been.
Padme is a hypocrite, proclaiming that all people deserve basic decency and the right to safety, but at the same time allowing Anakin to get away with a mass murder with no consequences by covering it up.
Leia doesn't even let Han get away with being a little bit of an asshole, there's no way she'd let him get away with mass murder. She holds everyone around her to a higher standard, believing in the best of them but also but refusing to accept excuses for cowardice and selfishness.
Padme talks so much about wanting the war to end, but then allows one of the opposition's biggest generals go free just to get Anakin back because she cares about him, causing the war to continue to go on for even longer.
Leia lets Luke sacrifice himself because she knows it's possibly the only way they might have a victory and beat the Empire, even though she knows what he is to her and loves him. She knows what has to be done and respects the choice Luke is making and would never condemn their efforts just to keep him with her.
Padme's story parallels Anakin's, she devolves as the narrative goes on, until she's barely a shell of the person she used to be. That strength and moral clarity she showed as a Queen is entirely gone, leaving only a scared woman pleading with a murderer to come back to her.
Leia's story parallels Luke's, she gains more and more strength and clarity as the narrative moves forward. The bossy young woman we first met has become a confident rebel leader who knows she doesn't have to harden her heart to be strong.

She gave Obi-Wan a curious glance. "What is it? You've got that look on your face."
"What look?"
"That look that says, You're going to hate this idea, Siri, but I'm going to do it anyway," Siri said dryly.
Obi-Wan grinned. "Relax. You're going to love it.

I don't think we talk enough about the fact that Rey is one of Obi-Wan’s Grand-Padawans.
He was the first one to guide her towards the path of being a Jedi. Leading another Chosen One towards their destiny.
Yeah, we don't talk about that enough.

New Story Alert!!
Obi-Wan huffed in disbelief. “I can’t do this…”
“Do what, what is it you want?” Qui-Gon asked, frustration building on his side of their Force bond.
“I want to know why,” his voice was nearly a whisper. “Why, if you were going to choose to be a supportive Master, why couldn't you have chosen to be one for me?”
***** OR *****
An AU where Qui-Gon lives and his single-minded drive to train the Chosen One blinds him to everything and everyone else.

let jedi be jedi.
let them be uncomfortable with romance and/or marriage.
let them be repulsed at the idea of leaving the order.
let them feel liberated by jedi beliefs--let them see it as freedom from the burdens and chains of worldly life to follow the will of the force.
let them love the temple and think fondly of their fellow jedi and their communal lifestyle.
let them care for their masters and their padawans without imposing the dynamics of the nuclear family. let them explicitly reject comparisons of their masters to parents, or their padawans to children.
let them defend the jedi openly! without shame!
let them embrace the modesty, humility, and practicality of jedi clothing.
let them love being jedi, everything about being jedi, with no strings attached.
just....let jedi be jedi

I think sometimes it's easy to forget that Star Wars worldbuilding/the Jedi's ability to sense the future isn't meant to be hard and fast, that they're not meant to be perfect barometers of anything. That the future is in motion, your choices matter, they affect things, it's not already set in stone, that you're meant to live in the present and actually be present in it, not get hung up on the future and what is/isn't, because you can't predict it with 100% certainty. Whether Obi-Wan can see pieces of the future here is helpful, but it can't be the foundation for his actions, he can't act like it's already happened, because it might not happen at all, that's how the Force works! That's how Star Wars and the Jedi work--you're meant to be mindful of the future and what's likely to happen, but it's not already set. It's about the balance of the two, what's likely to happen versus what you make happen. JEDI PHILOSOPHY AND WORLDBUILDING IS SO FASCINATING.

Repeat after me:
The Jedi taught emotional control, not repression.
The Jedi took kids with parental consent, they did not kidnap them.
The Jedi did not hold people against their will, they could leave the Order at any time.
The Jedi were not "just as bad" as the Sith.

Not The Update You Were Looking For
Author’s Note:
I first want to thank you for sticking with my WIPs despite the long delays in updating, your comments and your encouragement mean everything to me. Secondly, I wish to apologize that this isn’t a story update - well, not really. It’s more of an update on the delay and a plea for more of your patience.
The last 6 months have been…a lot.
The loss of my cat of 13 years, who grew deathly ill while I was away on vacation
Fired from a job that while high pressured gave me a sense of purpose and was at least somewhat creative. I also lost the job as an act of betrayal when I was used as a scapegoat to save my boss’ skin. …I was the sole breadwinner at the time as well, so there was intense fear of becoming homeless for a couple of months.
My brother, who is my best friend and who I live with was diagnosed with a brain tumor (which is what also killed our father a few years ago); and we had to fight with his insurance just to get all the tests and doctors he needs.
I started a new job, that I hate…for far less money.
I live in Los Angeles and while my house was safe from the wildfires (it was scary for a bit), many people I know/love weren’t so lucky.
I had an interview for my dream job and didn’t get it.
The Country / Republic that I love is crumbling before my very eyes, with the rise of fascism to take it's place.
I have a sibling who is non-Binary, a nephew who is Trans (who I called my “Padawan” when they were growing up) who I’m now constantly terrified for as hate is rapidly and openly spreading.
And most recently I learned that I am losing my central vision and probably within the next 5 years will not be able to read / write, drive or continue as a Special FX makeup artist which is my other creative outlet (and career).
Needless to say, I’m struggling to find the energy to write these stories, but I know that coming back to fanfiction and the world of Star Wars helped me with my depression before, so I’m really trying to get back into it. The reason I wanted to let you all know what is happening is to hope that you’ll have patience with me as I try to get back into the mindset of these stories. I have full intentions of finishing my WIPs, I just might have to get some shorter / angst riddled ones off my chest first.
It’s kinda too close to home right now to write about the rise of an Emperor who is deceiving an entire population when you’re an American right now.
Thank you all for sticking with me, and I promise I will finish my stories - it just might take a bit longer than I expected.
May the Force be with you…always.

Headcanon #4: Qui-Gon Would Have Been a Bad Master for Anakin
Reason n°1: this scene
That's when Qui-Gon lost any chance of being a good Master to Anakin.
Anakin is smart, he will remember this moment. He will remember that Qui-Gon left his Padawan without warning for another. There is no way that the possibility of it happening to him too does not exist in his mind.
What tells him that Qui-Gon won't replace him if he finds someone with more potential? Or if Anakin isn't as great as he thought?
Or would it boost his ego more that a Jedi Master chose to replace his Padawan for him?
His entry into the Order would literally be due to an injustice caused to another. While he has just been refused for not meeting their criteria. It would have been a very bad start for everyone.
Reason #2: The Chosen One of the Prophecy
Anakin knows, he's not surprised when Father tells him about it on Mortis, he just never talks about it. He barely believes it in fact. It's neither a subject of pressure, nor a subject of arrogance. The prophecy exists, period.
On the other hand, this situation would not have been the same if his Master had been someone ready to force his entry into the Jedi Order despite his age, to the point of replacing his own Padawan BECAUSE Anakin is the chosen one of the prophecy.
Because Qui-Gon is so sure that Anakin is the Chosen One, Yoda corrects him when he tries to be subtle. Anakin doesn't meet the criterias and in a psychological state that makes him difficult to open to Jedi teachings, which makes it extremely dangerous to train him to master powerful powers but Qui-Gon wants it anyway. He repeats several times that he is the Chosen One and insists heavily on it, he is not going to suddenly stop mentioning it if Anakin had become his Padawan.
Which can go in two directions:
Either Anakin has this gigantic pressure to be worthy of being the chosen one that Qui-Gon thinks he is,
or he thinks he is special and superior to the other Jedi because he has a great destiny
It is not excluded that it is both at the same time. (Yes, these are the same options as above. Impact x2 therefore)
Anakin would probably have fallen to the Dark Side earlier.

Leslye Headland cares more about the Sith than the Jedi. I think her particular fascination is pretty undisputed at this point.
She explicitly says she wanted to write a Dark gothic romance featuring the Sith. And she got as much money as Dune 2 to do that. She got an enormous gift to tell the story she wanted. Okay. Fine. Not my cup of tea. But kudos to her for somehow collecting all those coins.
However, as a consequence of her lack of care for the Jedi, she ends up gleefully twisting them to fit her own power fantasy.
For example from the Collider interview we learned:
How the Jedi became stand-ins to attack the "institution" (of her choice, likely a religious one)
That the Jedi were used to critique patriarchy, with the Jedi master-to-padawan relationship somehow analogous to sexist father and oppressed daughter.
That Anakin murdering Tuskens and keeping it a secret inspired how Vernestra kept the Brendock scandal a secret (and that Vern is on a tragic arc too).
That she roots for Mae because the Jedi would never hold themselves accountable.
How the Jedi destroy children's worlds and how empowering it can be when, for example, they reclaim the saber that killed their parents.
How Sol and the Jedi caused Osha's loneliness.
That Sol talking about his love for Osha somehow robbed her of her agency? The agency Osha uses to join forces with the man who kidnapped her, killed her friends, and tried to kill her sister the previous day.
How she's using Senator Rayencourt as the voice of reason, and an audience stand-in, who asks "legitimate" questions about the Jedi having too much power.
That the Jedi have become cluelessly unaware of how they are perceived or that they could do wrong, because they've relied too long on their high status.
How the Jedi have always been "extremely flawed" (from the GQ interview)
A lot of this is not just divisive or cynical. It's creepy?
Headland wanted a dark Jane Austin romance featuring the villains in Star Wars - okay fine. I still think it could have been done without burning her Jedi Barbies to create new canon. I mean...its just brutal.

100% agree - to me, this was WAAAY more visceral than anything Star Wars has ever done...including anything we saw in Andor.
Please don't come at me, Andor fans, I am not speaking ill of Andor, I am simply saying this was such an impactful moment we don't talk about enough.
It's such a scary moment to see "regular" people buying into fascist propaganda.
This moment felt like when we see these pick-up trucks with hand drawn swastikas, confederate flags, or "MAGA" written on them, it's terrifying.
