it's not entirely wrong. Yes dean doesn't show the same eternal loyalty, love and devotion to cas AND yes he uses cas whenever he needs it AND gets mad at him if cas ever does something wrong with good intentions AND will sacrifice cas to save sam IF there wasn't another way yes it's true
But I do think is first of all and before everything else dean is a mother. Because how jhon raised them dean HAD to become mother AND father AND brother to sammy and that is his core that's who he is. Whatever he does he is always thinking of sam first and the few times when he goes against sam are his worst moments
So dean might love cas as much as he wants but he will never be able to sacrifice sam not even for cas (and I think cas knows this and accepts this part of dean also because he loves dean so unconditionally)
On the other side dean for cas is the reason why he began to FEEL. Dean is the reason cas rebelled against everything he knew and became human. Cas feels like he owes all he is to dean because "you changed me dean" and so even his love for jack, his own child, is because of dean
(that's why i'm onestly not sure what would happen if cas had to sacrifice jack for dean. I dont think he would i think he would somehow find a way to go himself instead of anyone else. Even instead of sam cause he knows how much dean would be hurt. Also this is why dean hates jack so much at the beginning i think. It's a mix of jealousy and anger for cas' death and all his repressed feelings)
So what i'm really badly trying to say is that dean loves cas but not in the same unconditional devoted way cause he's always thinking of his son/brother first and could never put anyone before sam
I used to think Destiel was as extreme in the show as it was extreme online, but it's not. It's all exaggerated. I watched the show and I'm honestly inclined to believe that most people who love Destiel didn't.
Yes, Castiel loves Dean, but Castiel ever being more than a "brother" to Dean? Never. Even without glasses, it's so clear by how Dean treats Castiel that Dean just doesn't treasure their bond as much as Castiel does. In the beginning, Castiel was a tool in their dynamic and it's STILL the core of their dynamic. Dean holds the leash that Castiel is on but not with enthusiasm.
Dean will never see wrong in his own actions and will only ever point out the wrong in Castiel’s actions. Castiel has made many mistakes but so has Dean and even so, Castiel has to repent for those as well. He can absolutely see Castiel as someone dear to him, but it's very clear that the devotion and adoration is completely one-sided.
If it really came down to it, Dean would sacrifice Castiel, especially for his brother. Dean has never been jealous or possessive of Castiel in the romantic or friendly way - only with the intent to hurt, use, or gaslight.
Again, there may be sweet interactions in the show, but just because Dean is nice sometimes doesn't mean that they're a dynamic duo because they're a toxic duo. A very overrated one at that and the spices are bland.
