10 Simple App Store Optimisation Techniques
Tumblr media
App Store Optimisation: Often creating a great app is not enough to win in the app store marketplace. App stores are just as competitive and fierce as any other online platform when it comes to gaining consumers attention. With almost 2.3 million apps on the Google Play App Store, it is getting increasingly difficult to stand apart from the crowd. People often don’t trust an app which doesn’t have much users and reviews. And without significant user base and quality reviews, it is harder to rank your app at the top of each app store listing. But you don’t have to be totally dependent on both to get initial traction and userbase. Here are some simple app store optimisation tips that you can start implementing immediately to gain early adopters and grow your user base.
1. Limit the number of characters, the oft-ignored app store optimisation factor
Short and captivating has proven to provide the most traction. To get the best results, the title should be within 30 characters. Name the title such that it describes the app perfectly. Tests have shown that a fitting app title has improved the results by 10%.
Another thing to avoid is to use common generic terms in the title to describe the app. It may seem appealing as users may get an instant idea of what the app is about. But occupying the same space with the app name, it dilutes the brand of the app.
2. Categorise your product correctly
There is an overwhelming number of apps in each category and subcategory. It might be tempting to put your app in a category that is loosely related but relatively less competitive. Unfortunately, this does not help users who are actively looking for your services. In fact, it is observed to negatively affect the position of the app in the listing. If your app does fit into more than one category, it is better to categorise your app into the least competitive section.
Estimated App Worth (EAW) is another metric you can use to measure the competitiveness of your category or subcategory. Putting your app in a category which is filled with an app with low EAPs boosts your chance of ranking the app higher.
3. Non-Technical and detailed App Description
To optimise the description of the app. A top-heavy pattern is the best way to go. Only the first few characters of the app are displayed on the app listing. To maximise on the limited space, describe the app in a short but detailed manner. The remaining description can expand on the first few lines.
But it is important to describe the app in a non-technical and user-friendly manner. As a coder, it may seem tempting to impress your audience by describing the features in ass detailed way as possible. But most won’t understand and wouldn’t even bother to look it up. The description works best when it describes what the users are looking for and prompt them to download it as soon as possible.
Best descriptions often the one which lists out the benefits of downloading the app, testimonials proving the advantages of using the app, and any additional information which makes your app special over your competitors. The description is important, but app developers must put their initial focus on optimising for images and title as it is known to have a higher impact in gaining user attention.

Remarketing — Google and Email Remarketing
Everyone hates ads. Or so was the belief until a recent Hubspot report. People don’t mind seeing ads which are relevant to them, and remarketing will help you do just that. Though remarketing is an old concept, think posters and posts reminding to sign up for service which you had cancelled long ago and coupons providing discounts to regular customers. It has gained much more relevance and surged in popularity due to digital marketing.
Targeting ads towards people who have visited your website or any other social media channel is termed as remarketing. Even if you have an excellent website, it is estimated that only 4% of your visitors convert into customers in their first visit. Remarketing is a necessity not just for the growth of your business but in some cases, even survival.
Right now Google AdWords remarketing is the most popular way of interacting with the website visitors. But it doesn’t have to be limited to it, emails are a great way to connect with prospects who might be interested in buying your products. In this article, we will discuss how you can effectively use Google Adwords and email to convert your leads into valuable customers using remarketing. Facebook too has its own remarketing feature which is quite similar to Google’s.
How does Google Remarketing work?
Google is the best service available today when it comes to online ads. Even for their remarketing program, they have multiple services catering to your different remarketing needs. Google has a different remarketing program for converting leads, increasing brand awareness and increasing registrations for your service. You can even access their Youtube platform for displaying remarketing ads. Google provides:
1. Standard remarketing: Google has two different ways to display ads. Search Ads and Display Ads. Standard remarketing makes use of the display ads network to show remarketing ads. Display ad network consists of ads in various blogs and websites connected to Google Adsense, Youtube and various other apps utilising Google Adsense platform. When you select the standard remarketing service, your ad will be displayed throughout the display ad network platforms where your prospective customers are visiting. To know more about how to create a standard remarketing campaign, visit here.

Google’s Quality Score | How to improve your AdWord’s Performance
You have done extensive keyword research and sorted out a set of keywords which you think are the perfect targets for your next search ad campaign. You set your bid amount so high that you are sure none of your competitors will be able to match it. And when you do post your ad, are you surprised that your ads show up in none of the keywords you targeted? Enter Google’s Quality Score. Quality Score is a measure set by Googe to determine the quality and relevancy of the ad’s landing page to a search query. This parameter is set by Google to weed out irrelevant or poor quality ads and landing pages which the user probably has no interest in seeing. (Similar to this, Facebook has a relevance score metrics).
Google earns a majority of its revenue through advertising. Making the online ad space of a popular search query valuable to both the advertisers and Google themselves. Low-quality ads or landing pages which have a low clickthrough rate results in significant loss of ad revenue for Google even if the bid amount set by the advertiser is high. As a measure to regulate the quality of ads, the Quality Score metric was introduced to score landing pages based on relevancy and usefulness to the user. The best thing about this whole setup is you can display your ads for competitive keywords with a low bid amount if you have a great landing page which converts. In the world of search advertising, quality score can be the difference between a subpar campaign or a highly successful one leading to significant growth and high return on investment.
What constitutes the Quality Score Factor
Quality Score Factor (QSF) is measured on a scale of 1 to 10. Google has specifically stated that landing page experience, Click through Rate and ad relevance are the major factors in determining Quality Score of a landing page. In addition to this, historical performance of the account in previous ad campaigns are also considered to be a key factor. The weightage among factors are not exactly known, but there is a general consensus that clickthrough rate is the most important of them all. The requirements and demand for each industry are unique, various metrics considered high for one may not even be marginal for another. To get a true picture of how well you are doing, it is advisable to measure up your performance with your competitors and other companies in your industry. Let’s elaborate on each of the factors separately,
1. Click through Rate:
The ratio of the number of viewers of your ad to the ones clicking on it is termed as click-through rate. This metric can be determined by Google only over time and the ad campaigns which has just been started has no click-through rate assigned to it. The higher the click-through rate an ad gets over time, further the bid amount decreases, the ad gets shown on various other similar high volume keywords and improves your ad position in search engine results page. To determine the average clickthrough rate, compare it with the other players in your industry. To improve your clickthrough rate, you can adopt the following measures:
Highly specific keywords: If you aim for a keyword school”, it includes a large section of the audience who may type this keyword, who may not be interested in your ads. But if you aim for a keyword such as, “primary school for my 12-year-old kid in Bangalore”, the term is highly specific which has an intent. This kind of keywords may have low volume but has an unusually high conversion rate.
Highly attractive ad copy: Even if you have done very good keyword research, the click-through rate of an ad campaign may not improve as much as you hoped it would. The cause of reason would be because the copy of your ad may not entice viewers to click on your ads. To improve the performance of your ad copy, focus on the headline. It must contain the keyword and must be persuasive enough for users to click on it.
A question in the headline: Adding a question which the users might have while typing the query may gain the attention of the user. Asking question implies that the ad is made just for the user and they will be more inclined to click on the ad.
Meta description: Add further information in the meta description that will persuade the users to click on the ad. The meta description must be an extension of the headline, conveying information about what the ad is all about.

Important Google Algorithm Updates since 2010 | Details & Tactics
Google Algorithm Updates: Google constantly tries to provide the best results to their users’ queries. To do so, it implements an algorithm to rank pages using various metrics. But every algorithm is hackable and Google’s algorithm is no exception. To stay a step ahead of the webmasters exploiting any such weakness in their algorithms, Google updates it on a regular basis. Site Galleria presents you a list of important updates which has affected the way webmasters do search engine optimisation in a major way:
1. Panda Update (February 23, 2011)
Panda update was the first major Google Algorithm Update after the turn of the decade. The main purpose of revamping of the algorithm was to prevent low-quality websites and content from popping up at the top of the results page. Panda update had a major effect on a number of SEO practices at the time, eliminating the need for “content farms” and penalising websites which employed such practices. Content farms refer to the practice of creating a large number of low-quality content, usually plagiarised or scraped from other similar websites. Panda is regularly updated to monitor the web pages, and penalise/de-penalise websites who have changed their tactics since the last update accordingly. The major penalising factors of the Panda updates are:
Thin Content or low-quality content. Thin content refers to the pages covering a lot of topics but provided very little details for any of them. And pages which provide little value to its readers is termed as low-quality content.
Duplicate content. Content which is copied from other pages on the internet. This is inclusive of your own website and many pages having the same content can affect your search engine rankings. To escape the penalty, it is better to employ the ‘canonical’ tag.
Authoritative websites. After the update, Google started giving better rankings to websites which are known to be an expert or “authoritative” in their respective domains. One of the factors it determines it is by seeing if users would be willing to provide credit card information to avail their services.
Blocked websites. Websites which are frequently blocked by users in the search engine results page have witnessed a decrease in the search engine ranking after this update.
High ad to content ratio. Websites having high ad content when compared to the volume of content they provide were first affected in this update.
2. Penguin Update (April 24, 2012)
Penguin update was the first Google algorithm update which impacted off page optimisation tactics such as link building. In many ways, Penguin update is an extension of the Panda update. It is aimed at improving the quality of the content by penalising websites which employed keyword stuffing among other things. Major negative triggers of Penguin updates are:
Keyword Stuffing. The overutilization of certain keywords in an article or webpage negatively impacted the search ranking for the webpage.
Spam Links. If the webpage consists of many links leading to websites which are known to have spam content. Google will penalise your website too after this update. It is better to remove any such links, and if you have no control over the links, you can disavow the links.
Irrelevant links or Unnatural links. In addition to the spam links, if your website has links which lead to websites not related to your content or domain, it will be considered irrelevant links and your webpage will be penalised for it. This was introduced to discourage paid link building schemes. Unnatural links are links which have unnatural or promotional anchor texts associated with it and will be penalised by Google after the update.

Best Practices of Writing Title Tag [with infographic]
What is Meta Title tag/Title tag of a web page?
The HTML title tag or also known as the Meta title tag of the web page defines the name of a web page and is used to tell the content of your web page to both users via SERPs and to search engines by writing titles with keyword relevance.
A Title tag is an important part of a webpage because your web page shows up on a Google SERP via its title. The right Title tags can drive traffic to your site when a user finds the Title tag of your web page interesting, and also it affects the way Google looks at your webpage.
Tumblr media
Do’s of Title Tag for SEO:
1. Perform Keyword research before writing Title:
As told earlier, Title describes the content of the webpage and it should be defined by the main keywords of your content. The Keywords in the Title tags tells search engines that these words are used in the Title tag because it defines the content of the web page and the content is also indexed and ranked based on the keywords used in the Title tag. Thus, it is very important to do research on the keywords and use the right Keywords in the Title tag that are relevant and has the potential to drive traffic to your site.
There are many cases where webmasters use odd keywords in the Title tag just because its easier to rank for an unrelated keyword. But Google bots are smarter and it can spot it and can rank down such web pages/ websites. Thus, perform a thorough research of the keywords to use and then write your Title tags keeping it relevant to your webpage content.
2. Title tags should be only 65-70 characters long including spaces:
In search engines, the titles in the SERPs, i.e the blue-link text in the SERPs are set to display only 60-75 characters and anything longer than that is truncated by an ellipse. Also, after a certain length, the keyword relevance value in the Title tag drops pretty much to zero, and thus don’t add any value to your title.
It is also a fact that Short titles are easier to read than long ones. Thus, it is likely that users click on the short titles than longer ones. Also, the fewer the words in the Title tag, the more value Google attributes to each word. Hence, it’s easier for a keyword to score well in a Title tag of 4-5 words than in a Title tag of 7-8 words.

How Do YouTube Videos Get Ranked
There is no doubt that using video in your marketing is a great idea. Not only does video add interest to your pages, but it also attracts more buyers, keeps them informed, and helps them make wise decisions as consumers. As a business with a great product, using video allows you to be creative and entertaining while presenting important information.
If you’ve recently decided to add video to your online marketing strategy, you may be wondering how to tackle the topic of improving your search engine optimization results of YouTube videos. If you have not, then you should start focusing more on video marketing and here are some powerful video editing tools to get you started. Before committing to a strategy, you will need to decide if you want your video to reside on your web page, on YouTube, or on both. As the second-largest search engine in the world, YouTube may seem like the obvious choice. Search engine results on YouTube are formulated in a similar way to those on Google, using algorithms to calculate relevance. A few of the criteria used are to rank YouTube videos:
The number of subscribers you have
How many times the video has been viewed
Whether or not the video is added to a viewer’s playlist
If the video is watched in its entirety
Whether or not the video is embedded
How many positive responses the video has
The criteria listed above may seem like they are out of your control, and in some instances that is the case. The argument could be made, however, that the better quality video you produce, the more views it will get, and the higher it will rank in search results. If you would like to improve your chances of high rankings, and not simply succumb to the whims of viewers, there are several ways of accomplishing this. Read on to learn the best ways to get your video, your website, and your product the attention it deserves.
1. Use Keywords
Just as search results for written pages are improved with the correct usage of keywords, the video will rank higher when you use relevant keywords in the description, title, and tag. The bots which are constantly crawling the internet, and are responsible for rankings, use keywords to determine what your content is relevant to.
For example, if your video is about a food product, you’ll want to choose keywords that the public is searching for. Depending on current trends, words such as healthy, natural, and gluten-free might be good choices. To determine which keywords are best for your product, run a few searches and see which words yield the most relevant results. If video results for your keywords land on the first page of the search results, you have chosen the right ones to use.
2. Include a Good Description
Every video needs a good description of its contents. It would be lovely if YouTube could watch your video and automatically categorize it, but that is simply not the case. Instead, it is up to you to describe what you are showcasing in your video, what industry or category it belongs in, and how it can help a viewer. Use your relevant keywords, and keep the description focused. If the video is particularly wordy, as in a tutorial, including a transcript is helpful to your viewers as well as your search engine results.
3. Give Your Video a Memorable Title
Every good video deserves a great title, and this is another place where your keyword usage will help with your results on a search page.  If your video is part of a guide or a “how-to” article, be sure to use catchy phrases with numerals, such as, “Learn to Knit in 10 Simple Steps.” Placing your keywords at the beginning of the title is best, and always try to use natural phrasing.

10 Google SEO Rules you should never break
The competition to rank in the first page or position of popular search queries of the Google is often quite intense. Sometimes the competition compels digital marketers to take some not so well advised techniques to rank their website ahead of their competitors. Google has a set of rules in place, which if broken and discovered, will lead to penalization of the website or blog, or in some cases even banning the entire website from the search engine results. This also has some negative long-term consequences, as any future website created by a banned unique whois user will also have its domain authority significantly affected.
Google has set these rules in place to give the best results possible user’s search queries. And also provide a fair advantage to all the content creators and website owners who have the best interests of the user in mind. To Google, the needs of the users come first and they will prioritize it over everything else. In addition to that, they would also prefer to rank websites which provide valuable, unique and engaging content much higher.
The techniques which violate any of Google’s webmaster guidelines are referred to as black hat techniques. To be on the good books of Google, here are some specific Quality Guidelines rules listed out by them and do not break them under any circumstances:
1. Unoriginal content
There is nothing Google hates more than providing unoriginal and/or copied content. So much so that they have listed it as the first point in their quality guidelines. Providing copied content is a bad deal for all the stakeholders involved except the one who provides the copied content. Users get unsatisfactory search results for their queries prompting them to move to other search engines. It also affects the original content creators who work hard to create their content will have their work stolen and won’t get adequate recognition and compensation for it. So Google does whatever it takes to prevent duplicate content because it is bad for business. Copying content can be so much appealing because it is very easy to do so, and website owners can fill their website with content quickly, but it will lead to a high penalty and affect the other pages of the website which does have original content.
2. Content scraping from other websites
Google loves original, attractive and innovative content and if your website is found to have it, it will not hesitate to place your website on top of the search queries provided that other requisites are met. Scraped content is similar to copied content in that you will rewrite content from other popular website and hope to get some of the traffic to your website as well. To prevent content scraping penalty it is advisable to provide content value that is unique to your organization and which the users will crave to get more of. Google also hates content which is generated automatically with the help of various Automatically Generated Content (AGC) tools. This type of content will not be ranked by Google even if it has various keywords, but doesn’t make any sense to its readers.
3. Unnatural link building schemes
In the recent Rank Brain update, Google has decreased the significance of the backlinks of a webpage and has focused more on the behavior of the users in a webpage. Google penalizes web pages which have links embedded in various unnatural elements such as widgets and unrelated keywords throughout the internet. It also discourages guest posting schemes which are made just for the sake of building links. This rule is highly debated and many consider Google does not penalize violators of this rule in any major way. But webmasters do have to keep in mind of the quality and relevancy of the websites in which their links are posted. Marketers often use this tactic to link a webpage with irrelevant and spammy websites in hopes to decrease the page rank of their competitors. Link Building is still considered a major factor and spending time on building quality backlinks is a worthwhile investment.

12 tips to boost your email marketing campaign [with Infographics]
Email Marketing is the most effective and highly cost-effective way to generate new leads and engage with your existing customers. Email Marketing may seem simple from the outset but it can just as easily damage your brand value if not done properly. Site Galleria, a digital marketing company in India provides 12 highly effective tips to not only improve your customer engagement but boost your brand recognition and generate valuable leads through email marketing.
1. Personalize emails
One size rarely fits all. The same can be held true for email marketing campaigns. Human beings are a diverse bunch with varied tastes and habits, no two human beings are the same. Why then should the same email appeal to everyone? Statistics indicate that personalised emails have an increase in clickthrough rate (CTR) of 14% and conversions increased by 10%. Personalisation works! But it is not possible to create a unique personal email for each of our customers unless you apply advanced machine techniques. You can, however, segregate your mailing list according to some similarities in the user behaviour and create a different email to be sent to each of the customer groups.
2. Automate emails according to user behaviours (Triggered emails)
Currently, email automation software allows us to send emails according to some actions performed by users in their client’s website, app or service. This is a very useful feature which is rarely utilised by most of the marketers. Triggered emails have a very high clickthrough and conversion rates. This is due to the emails providing highly relevant content and users are usually expecting it. The most common type of user action triggered emails are subscriber emails and onboarding emails. But there are so many clever uses of triggered emails, such as thank you emails and action specific advice emails, which adds value to the customers and hence boost their engagement with the brand.
