rexwalker thoughts (i have not finished the clone wars yet and all of my knowledge comes from other fanfic so please take everything with a grain of salt, i just want to feed anakins praise kink)

what if the 501st noticed how the council always puts anakin down and they are basically like “yeah he’s a hot mess but he’s /our/ hot mess” like it starts with them randomly telling him that he had a good idea or that he looked cool when training. just like basic things to get anakin to smile and not look so glum all the time. it’s kix reminding him to eat and telling him he’s very good for taking his vitamins. like peak coddling that anakin DESERVES but he doesn’t want to point it out lest they stop being nice to him.

because he is nothing if not believing that every kind interaction has a cost and the men must want something from him if they are being so nice, like never in a million year would he believe that the men just want to be nice to him and take care of him

huge fan of anakin just being beaten down by the council and feeling so alone but instead of seeking out palpatine he finds comfort in his men and they become like a big family where they all want to protect their jedi who obviously hasn’t had the affection/appreciation that he so desperately craves

kinda of like the dynamic in alpha vs Alpha by Artemis_Neardos but instead of it being a/b/o its just normal dynamics and anakin would most likely be paired with rex instead of having multiple partners but all of them would become a huge family. obviously anti-jedi and maybe brief anti-obi-wan because he doesn’t understand that anakin experiences the force a lot different than other jedi, that he actually flourishes in the force when he has strong connections tethering him to the “good” side of the force

not to be a complete anakin apologist but god you can’t tell me that if he had just been supported instead of told his failures at every turn, he would have felt more secure in his position. hard to not look for outside “help” when the ones you are meant to seek guidance from only see your flaws

another idea being

a soulmate au where you find your soulmate by touch and rexwalker have work side by side for years without having their skin touch until they are in a disaster situation. i’m thinking of like they are ducking for cover and rex loses his glove somehow and he presses his hand against the back anakins neck to push him down and both are met with the searing pain that is associated with finding your soulmate, maybe like a tattoo moment? ofc they can’t do anything at the moment but they find out later that it can’t be anakins mech hand, it has to be his actual hand which ofc leads to some hurt/comfort there

but anakin, in true anakins fashion, has his tattoo very visible position where only his hair can cover it and rex talks anakin into leaving his where it will be mostly hidden, like his forearm or his chest. anakin ofc had to be talked out of marking rex’s neck like rex accidentally did to him

cue lots of the council giving him grief and telling him he can never see them again, meanwhile his soulmate is literally his captain but he isn’t gonna risk getting reassigned. and ofc the way everyone finds out has to be the most dramatic way possible!
