There is a strange book innocently sitting on the porch of the Mystery Shack.
None of the denizens seem to have noticed it yet...

Taking a portal hadn’t been a problem for Maria or Sixer, so Beta hadn’t needed to pick them up. Granted, Maria hadn’t been to their home in Washington yet, but Sixer had, and that was enough.
Sixer could feel the cloaking spells that were set up around the van, and his tails twitched with curiosity -- more at how they had been built than why they were there in the first place. After all, everyone wanted a modicum of privacy from time to time, and Sixer wasn’t about to ask for reasons. It had been made quite clear that the trio of extra-dimensional beings were not eager to do anything to tear the dimension apart, after all.
Their costumes got an amused chuckle from him, although he hoped the axe wasn’t going to be used on anyone present. He didn’t recognize the others who had been invited, and he was certain that his six tails would draw their attention. Nothing like a kitsune walking around with no true costume to be spoken of to draw at least a little attention.
The absence of human ears would more than likely do that.
Sixer took great delight in devouring the chocolates. He’d tasted some of Morpho’s -- or, rather, Amos’ -- work before, and the chocolates had hit it off rather well in the Shack. He’d have to ask to get more later. The rock candy was also delicious, but Agatha took off with a few pieces of the purple variety before he could try those. Something about the species of the frog was annoyingly familiar.
Sixer was going to have to have a talk with Amos about that later...maybe after the ultraviolet vision had worn off. As if being pranked to see things in grayscale had been bad enough -- this was an entirely different headache. At least Amos had promised that would wear off.
And then midnight hit, and the show really began.
Sixer hadn’t known what to expect, not really. He knew Amos’ shape well enough, having seen them in his dreams when they’d passed through on occasion. Z’s shape was somewhat familiar, but Beta’s had been the true surprise. He had not been expecting an eternally long creature that disappeared over the horizon and did not seem to have a proper grip on their current place in time. It was interesting.
It was fascinating.
In the conversations that followed, Sixer spent more time focusing on the present than on the past. He knew some subjects would be too dangerous to touch on, so he steered clear of them. He poked them briefly over the style of magic they’d used in order to set up the cloaking spells, and showed off a little of his own abilities -- ice crystals formed from thin air into strange and intricate shapes, only to melt when in the presence of their fiery counterparts, produced from his own hand.
But this was Amos’ show, so he did not keep himself as the center of attention. He did ask for a few illusions, but nothing that would have scared the others present -- maybe a creature or two from Gravity Falls, or others that existed outside it. Seeing their rendition on what Mothman looked like had been a delight.
Overall, it was a very enlightening -- and entertaining -- night.
And yes, he did make sure to swipe as many of the homemade candies as he could before he’d gone home.

It’s growing dark early in Washington this time of year. When the gathering begins, there’s already a full moon out, huge and gold and low over the hills, with a few distant pines silhouetted perfectly against its face. A witchy, werewolf sort of moon.
For those who needed to be picked up: Beta couldn’t resist appearing directly behind them. After some brief explanation (and encouragement, if needed), they offer their hand, and smile. Whoosh, spirited away to the remote woods of Washington State!
(The trip was near instantaneous, and Beta was gentle, but if one kept their eyes open at just the right time, one might have caught a glimpse of something stretching across the field of vision, intertwined with barely visible gigantic prisms. Serpentine, with numerous legs, and a single smiling pink eye.)
The party is being held outside of Amos’s purple van, in a meadow tucked in the woods, far from any roads. The area is well cloaked in spells meant to turn away any uninvited eyes. A tall bonfire is roaring. Every so often, green and violet flames leap up among the orange. The smoke shifts hue every time another log is thrown on.

“These things have to be at least somewhat eldritch.” Sixer frowned at one of the strange, frog-like things that had taken up residence in the woods. “At least they’ve figured out that our house isn’t a place they can simply wander into.”
His green-eyed twin snorted and picked up one of the three amphibians they’d stumbled across in the woods. “I sure hope so. Is there anything that’ll really kill these things?”
“Believe me, if I find the answer, you’ll be the first to know,” Sixer replied dryly. “In the meantime, we need to make sure these things aren’t going to upend the local ecosystem as we know it.”
“Sure. You do that, an’ I’ll find out what’ll end these...these cosmic horror frogs.”
The two frogs Crescent hadn’t grabbed seemed to exchange looks with each other before hopping off into the underbrush. The one in his grip flailed about, hanging by one leg. It seemed to be thinking about taking a bite out of his hand.

Sixer watched Maria walk into the treeline and sighed quietly. She’d woken up with a haunted expression on her face and had asked for some time alone to clear her head.
“Even she still has some nightmares, despite everything she’s left behind.” Sixer sighed and shook his head.
He decided to linger on the porch of his home. The day was nice, and he didn’t have any important research to get to. Perhaps he could enjoy the last moments of summer, before autumn came in and set off the migration patterns of some of the local creatures.

Mabel gasped in delight. “You’re ten? That’s awesome! Welcome to the double digits!”
The revelation that followed on Skyfire’s declaration made Mabel’s wide widen. “You can breathe fire?! Wow! Showmeshowmeshowme! And then we can find Grunkle Sixer or Maria and they could give you some pointers!”
Skyfire carefully sneaks up on Mable and Waddles before pouncing playfully. (I live!)
Mabel squealed as the little dragon came pouncing in out of nowhere. Waddles squealed too, but his sounded more panicked before he realized that the dragon was familiar and...somewhat friendly?
“Skyfire!” Mabel exclaimed in delight. “It’s good to see you! How’ve you been?”

((I know I’ve got at least one person who’s got multiple threads running with me, and they’re waiting on responses from me. I’ll get to them when I remember to write something that isn’t FFVII fanfiction! Promise!))
If anyone’s been wondering what I’ve been up to –
–this is what happens when you set a reasonable goal of 1K a day and proceed to write a lot more than that for the first 11 days of July.
Mental Link is coming along at a nice pace, I have to say. And I don’t plan to slow down…much.
(Gimme a break here, chapter 32 is nowhere near the final climactic moments of this story yet)

“Yep! A small clan in New York. They were kind to me and helped me get away from some bad humans… and arguably the one bad gargoyle of that world. Her name was Demona and she was by far one of the most vicious beings I’ve ever come across.” Dominic explained. “Does your brother turn to stone during the day too?”
“Hm.” Sphinx tilted his head slightly. “That might be something to investigate, later. I’ll have to see if there is anything in this dimension that hints at their existence.”’
Knowing that there was a gargoyle who Dominic referred to as “bad” was troublesome, but if the Pines learned about the gargoyles before they learned about them, it could give some advantage.
“He does turn to stone on occasion, but they are quite rare,” Sphinx replied. “He does sleep more during the day, but he keeps the curtains pulled shut, so the sun never touches him unless he sleeps on the roof. And even then, he only becomes petrified if he’s been injured by some monster. I assume you are asking because these gargoyles do this?”
Dominic had waited months to enact her plan so that Sphinx and Gargrunkle wouldn't suspect. She waited until Sphinx came out and away before she snuck up on him in her dragon form and roared. She could settle for scaring them one at a time.
Catching Sphinx outside of the Mystery Shack wasn’t hard, but catching him alone was another matter. He often walked through the woods with one of his niblings, or a counterpart, or his own twin when they wanted to stalk unsuspecting gnomes in the night. It kept them from trying to kidnap tourists.
So when Sphinx stepped out one morning for a stroll on his won to look for something that required light paws and minimal noise, he certainly wasn’t expecting to get snuck up on by a dragon of all things.
Or, rather, he had heard there was something behind him, but he hadn’t turned around soon enough.
A lion’s roar met Dominic’s as Sphinx turned sharply, spreading his wings out in an attempt to make himself look bigger. He didn’t look scared, per se, but he had certainly been startled.

Morpho, in drone form, and Beta, in caterpillar form, stood just down the dirt road from the greatly expanded Mystery Shack Sixer and his alternates, family and friends called home, just over the edge of the unicorn magic radius. Beta had been the one to show the way. Truthfully, Morpho didn’t even know anymore if the unicorn spell was as potent against them as it used to be, but they could still feel it and respected the line.
Each of them held a covered bucket.
“Why are we standing all the way over here?”
For Stanley’s sake.
“You mean Crescent?”
Him and the other ones.
“Will they know it was us?”
I’m certain of it. This is just the kind of thing Ford Pineses are all about– a brand new species!
The two of them upended their buckets, releasing a swarm of hundreds of young mutant frogs. They stopped, as if to take in their new environment, and then they made an immediate, single-minded beeline for every weak point in the house. Every loose board and shingle, every cracked open window, every air vent, soon had frogs trying to wriggle in, because if there was one thing they knew it was that House meant People, People meant Food, and More House meant More People meant More Food.
And you couldn’t ask for better forest habitat for the little ones, Morpho added, fondly. Right, let’s skedaddle before they see us.

It had been a quiet, beautiful summer day. The Pines were scattered about the house, with the air conditioner running and all the windows shut. A good day to sit inside, read over research, and watch TV while avoiding the heat as best as possible.
Until a loud rattling noise overtook the entire house.
“What in the name of....”
Sixer looked up from one of the dusty tomes he’d been reading, and frowned at the ceiling. “It shouldn’t be hawktopus breeding season, that’s not for another ten years at least...”
“I can’t believe that you know that,” grumbled his counterpart from across the room.
“I may as well. They are in Gravity Falls, and I can’t exactly call myself normal in comparison.” Sixer rose to his feet. “This is new, though...”
A scream came from the hallway, and one of Sixer’s nieces burst into the study. “Grunkle Sixer! Grunkle Stanford! We’ve got a frog invasion!”
Sixer and Stanford exchanged looks.
“Frog invasion?” Stanford adjusted his glasses.
“Y-yeah! They’re trying to get into the house!”
Sixer frowned. “Why would--”
Glass shattered, and a yell came from somewhere else in the house. “Get out of the kitchen or so help me Primus we’re having barbecued frog legs tonight!”
Sixer’s expression shifted. “Board up as many open areas as you can to keep these things out. Stanford, it would be wise if we gave Maria some help in keeping these things out of the house.” He moved out of the study quickly, leaving Mabel and Stanford watching after him as his tails flicked with ice and fire.

curioosity
She notices that she’s growing, taller and taller until she reaches her normal height- okay maybe more than her normal height- around 7 feet tall, for personal reasons, of course.
“Okay, Sixer! This is perfect! You can stop now!”
Sixer definitely knew that this was taller than Azura was supposed to be. Seven feet tall was taller than him by a good deal, and she had definitely been shorter than that when he’d seen her last. But, he did tell her he wasn’t going to stop until she told him.
He flicked the flashlight off and looked up at her with a raised eyebrow and an amused smirk. “Well, there you are. I’ll leave the flashlight with you, in case you want to adjust your size again later.” He spun the flashlight around in his hand and held it out to her, handle first. “Just be careful and take your time getting adjusted back to a more human height. I suspect you will be bumping into the tops of doorways for a little while.”
"Locating the components was the easy part, apparently." Sixer was holding a crystal in one hand and a flashlight in the other. "My nephew lost the original at some point, but thankfully putting something new together wasn't an issue. And you don't have to go monster hunting to collect the components, either." Bonus! (sixfingersixtails)
She hops excitedly at the news. Seeing the crystal and flashlight TONS bigger than she actually is makes her doubt that she could’ve handled it on her own. Even if weren’t for the local monsters that reside in Gravity Falls, she could’ve been eaten by an owl once she steps inside the forest.
“Holy shit you did it! That’s amazing, Sixer!” She holds her arms out, more ready than ever.
“NOW BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY!”
