i just finished s5 and my heart is so fulllll 😭💕

i think they returned to their roots a bit with this season - just all around good feels and sincerity instead of this like desperation to keep the show going 🙈, i loved it. feels kind of wild that i was contemplating skipping it 🥹

standouts of the season personally for me were hu ge’s wedding episodes (i cried so hard at his wife’s wedding vows 😭), qiu zi’s dad visiting and the bad news episodes (girlie i’m rooting for you and wishing you all the best in your career 😭🫂), zhao rang’s surprise return to the show 😭💕😭💕😭💕 (he surprised them about joining the filming of the last few episodes, and i’m obsessed with their reactions when they saw him waiting for them before they headed to the next filming location :’)), and hu ge’s surprise song that was written as a present for the whole cast especially the original crew (he took the freestyle song they came up with in s1 and turned it into a whole ass song - too emotional 😭🫂💞)

Zoku zoku Saigo kara nibanme no koi episode 1 eng sub

Welcome to my latest translation project!

May I present you Zoku zoku Saigo kara nibanme no koi. This is the third season of Saigo kara nibanme no koi ("second to last love"). The previous seasons aired in 2012 and 2014. This is an independent sequel set in present time, 10 years since the second season, so you need no previous knowledge of the story.

Set in the seaside town of Kamakura (my second Kamakura project this year!), the story follows TV producer Yoshino Chiaki, her neighbour Nagakura Wahei and his three siblings Mariko, Shinpei and Noriko.

The show is beautiful, funny, poignant, moving and authentic, carried by fantastic veteran actors. It's also one of the most romantic shows I've seen because the romance is in the friendship and unspoken feelings between Wahei and Chiaki.

If you've ever lamented there not being enough older characters being silly on TV, this is your show. If you love slow burn, this is your show. If you've ever enjoyed any of my previous fansub projects, this is your show. If you feel like you could use a little bit of hope and comfort in your life - this is your show.

Character introductions

Yoshino Chiaki: A 59-year-old single TV drama producer who relocated from Tokyo to Kamakura in the first season for a slower pace of life. She's outspoken, funny and a true girl's girl.

Nagakura Wahei: A 63-year-old widower and single father of an adult daughter who in the previous seasons worked at the Kamakura city hall but has since retired. As the eldest of the family, he looked after his siblings after they lost their parents at a young age. He's a conscientious and dependable person who respects the rules and often gets in debates with Chiaki.

Mizutani Noriko: Wahei's eldest sister, sweet but a little bit self-absorbed. She has no filter. Her husband is a constant source of problems.

Nagakura Shinpei: Wahei's younger brother. He runs a cafe where the family meets up every morning for a loud breakfast. He was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor in childhood, which has impacted his outlook on life. He dated Chiaki for a while but is now married to Wahei's coworker.

Nagakura Mariko: Shinpei's autistic-coded twin sister. She was a recluse until Chiaki discovered her talent for screenwriting and took her under her wing. One of her quirks is that she speaks to everyone in extremely formal language. She has an unrequited crush on Chiaki.
