Lost Hat (A short comic)
Tumblr media
This was the scene that inspired me to draw the comic. The idea has been in my head since June, after the release of the Good Omens episodes. It went lying in my folders for a while, but I’m glad to finally have it finished!  Thank you for reading :)

Releasing in February 2023:
With only three released books, I honestly believe Tiffany McDaniel may well be the greatest living novelist writing today. The way she brings her tales to life so vividly on the page is magical and unique. Her style is one of a kind, yet reminiscent of lost greats like Ray Bradbury, with her uncanny intermingling of metaphor and myths and the kinds of stories passed down from generation to generation.
Her prose is breathtaking and beautiful. Her words lift off the pages and fill you with wonder and enlightenment. There’s simply no one else out there writing like her.
On The Savage Side loosely retells the story of The Chillicothe Six. Six women, of impoverished backgrounds, who were all found dead in a local Ohio river. All victims of a suspected serial killer. These women, their lives lost to prostitution and drug abuse, were sadly forgotten for the most part, and this book is McDaniel crafting stories and lives for them. A tribute to those unloved, forgotten souls who never had a voice in life.
This book is a devastating work of literature. Her previous book Betty nearly killed me. With this one. It felt like McDaniel was shoveling dirt over my head at the end of every single chapter. This book is horror, pure and simple. And having read a lot of horror over the years, I can honestly say no other book has even come close to burying itself under my skin and burrowing into my bones like this book. At times, I found myself feeling physically sick reading the words on the pages. McDaniel leaves little room to breathe. So much darkness mingled in with such beauty.
This was a life changing work. One of those books that stay with you your whole life. There are things I will never look at the same way again after reading this. A warning: this story contains every single trigger warning imaginable. Not kidding.
I hope everyone takes a chance and reads this incredible story because Tiffany McDaniel is one of our most treasured storytellers and her stories deserve a wide audience and all the awards there are to give. This ended up being one of the best books I have ever read. No hyperbole.

Book Review:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to read #79 for the year- Daughter Of Hounds by Caitlin R. Kiernan.
A brilliant and action packed finale to her Deacon Silvey trilogy. This is a reread, and it gets better and better every time I read it. Kind of like a Kiernan’s greatest hits collection. The ghouls , Madame Terpsichore, The Bailiff, the underground labyrinth beneath Rhode Island’s Swan Point cemetery, The Children Of The Cuckoo, The Yellow House at 135 Benefit St, time manipulation, mini universes captured inside snow globes… all kinds of cool shit! Kiernan’s imagination and brilliant prose are on full display here. Can be read as a stand-alone, but my recommendation is to start with Threshold and then read Low Red Moon before tackling this. You will get so much more out of it. All three books are very different, and are all fantastic. As a matter of fact, go read everything by Caitlin Kiernan! 📚📚📚

So, I write books. They're queer horror.
A couple of them have won awards.

Most of them have audiobooks if that's your thing (same 🤘)
One's getting a movie, but I'll post about that separately. 💜

Intro!! I suppose the best way to start a Tumblr is to just do it. I teach. I read. I review. I’ve met some truly great people because of books and social media; the intersection of the two has brought about lasting friendships. I’m hoping this tumblr gives me one more place to both find new books as well as to shout about the books I love. There may also be random bits of teaching posts, horror movies, or about my dog, Joey, so follow at your own risk.
I read all kinds of books but I definitely gravitate towards horror, speculative fiction, nonfiction, romance, and so on. I’m a part of the Horror Spotlight group (formally Ladies of Horror Fiction) which is dedicated to lifting up diverse/marginalized horror authors and creators. I review for Horror DNA and I’m a staff reviewer and slusher for Apex Magazine. You may have even seen some of my reviews in Rue Morgue magazine. All of this is just so damn cool; I’m just a 43 year old book nerd and never thought I’d have the opportunity to share what I love with a wider audience.
I’ll see you around the stacks. If you see me committing any egregious tumblr errors, do let me know. I am learning new tricks, and all that. To close - here are my absolute favorite reads from 2021. See any you love or any on your TBR?

currentlyreading Reapers Gale, the seventh book in the #malazanbookofthefallen series.
Really loving this reread. This is the greatest fantasy series I’ve ever read, but It also happens to be the most difficult series I have ever read. Literally thousands of characters, multiple continents and races, and don’t even get me started about the thousands and thousands of years of history shown throughout. This is definitely a series that rewards rereads and my enjoyment has increased tremendously, having a handle on how this world ticks now.

The rumours are true. Well, the good ones are, anyway. Netflix is delighted and thrilled that so many of you, all over the world, have been watching and loving Sandman, which means that the thing we were all hoping would happen...? Well, it's happened...
