"A warrior's vigil is an honored ritual. One day, you'll have yours. Until then, I'll be looking out for you"
Forever one of my favorite mentor apprentice duos. The warriors family tree is a mess, but I also love that they're half-brothers. Longtail's character arc was really cheated by the Erins, but also love the thought that Swiftpaw watches over him from StarClan

It was @of-course-its-gorse's post - finally found it again
Okay, but what if Brightheart and Thornclaw were Rosetail's kits?
I was watching a youtube video a few weeks back that suggested that splitting Frostfur's TPB litter into two separate litters would fix a decent amount of the inbred ThunderClan family tree and today my noggin went "...huh." Yeah Rosetail was technically an elder in the first book, but she doesn't even show up in the allegiances and she died protecting the nursery - Warriors retcons have been based on far less. Also, in the loose and assumed time periods between a queen's age and still having kits, pretty sure Speckletail and Snowkit are technically older than Rosetail could've been, so we're rolling with it. And I am far too tired to calculate whether this change vastly fixes the level of relatedness of subsequent cats, I just wanted to make silly drawings of cats.
In the words of Moonkitti, "[she] lived a life obsessed with boys" haha. But also pretty true. One of Rosetail’s most consistent character traits is her fascination with gossip surrounding mates and kits - so, in my little hc world, maybe she took an out-of-clan mate/tom to have kits. That, along with her kits being kin to Thistleclaw, could also be a driving force in Bluestar refusing to make Brightpaw and Thornpaw warriors on time - yeah I know that Whitestorm is more closely related to Thistleclaw than the apprentices, but logic is not one of the strongest players in Bluestar's mind rn so we're moving on
Thornclaw could've been loosely named after his uncle, but thorn over thistle keeps the reference much less obvious. Also, because he's no longer related to Lionheart and Brackenfur, I'm taking the liberty of a little re-design for our boy. TBH, to me, being golden brown did nothing for Thornclaw other than label him as "not-Brackenfur." For Brightheart, the argument could be made that she should've been named after Sweetpaw, but Sweetpaw was already named after a cat, so maybe Bright- is a reference to her sister in that regard. Or both her children are named entirely separate from her family.

Finally a quiet moment alone
Spoilers for @cloudedmoonofficial’s first book Clouded Moon: Shifting Roots below the cut. Eeee this book was great!! So excited for Shaded River
As a new member of Field Colony, would Wildfur go through any specific training or just expected to learn on the fly? Initially, I’d think the first option, except that now the already small colony is even smaller, so right now the name of the game seems like it’d be b. Hope our favorite grumpy fluffball gets some advice bc the guy doesn’t really seem like he’s built for prolonged running and agility 😅 I’m curious as to what Wildfur’s actual personality will be like now that he’s separated from the source of all his stress and trauma - I kind of hc him as the flipside to Redleaf. Still supportive and watchful, but not quite as initially outgoing. More of the unassuming counselor who really bonds with the quiet shy kids, bc they’re a bit more low energy, and helps to build them up
Also did Spotty ever tell Missingfoot about him or did he immediately put everything essential about him together on his own? - his inviting nature upon the sudden appearance of the marsh cat was not lost on me. I also wonder if Wildfur's name ever came up during Moonlight Meetings while Missingfoot was a Mentor and if he knew of him from afar. Now that Spotty is leader, will he be officially retired or would he keep working as a Keeper, probably out of necessity now
I also felt so bad for poor Jaggy leaving with Fernface - high key hope he has a change of heart and sucks up the courage nobody thinks he has and comes back. The Wastelands, if his company doesn’t get to it first, are gonna chew him up and spit him out
I’m also curious to see how Ambereyes is doing in the next book. This poor “strives to be a supporting character” really got a protagonist’s amount of loss and trauma in the past few months. Lilyfire too - I’d love to see her eventually become an envoy on Spotty’s council.
Eee!! I can’t wait see grown up Steadystone and all of Nightpool’s kits!! I also adore Lakespeckle!! And Viperfang really grew on me when I really didn’t expect him to!!
#all of these thoughts and ideas are probably wrong#but it’s fun to speculate anyway#spottedshadow#wildfur#clouded moon#shifting roots#star cat studios#my art#tascloudedmoon

Pledge your soul to another
Scarletwind and her mate, Bramblerise. As an apprentice, he could best be described as hardworking and kind, but average. He's certainly nowhere near the best hunter or fighter, but he's always willing to put in the work to get the job done. He was given the suffix -rise, for his willingness to always rise to the occasion and help out
This boy has gone through several designs and name changes in an attempt to hide his origin as a middle school OC design - I don't think intentioned named after Brambleclaw prbly bc i always found him boring but the influence was def there. His prefix unofficially changed to Mouse- i forgot his suffix for about a week before i changed back. It may still be somewhat special snowflake, but this tom will always be Bramblerise to me.

Hi hello. Vet school is destroying my sleep schedule but not my ability to hyperfixate on Giingersnaps’ new warriors au map. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I am so obsessed. So here’s my silly little contribution as compensation for being so late to the game on the hype of these AUs.
More of my obsessive gushing thoughts below the cut
The little scream I screampt when I saw Swiftpaw’s first run cycle as two halves was absolutely unmatched. Even in the storyboards, the movement is so fluid and incredible with the implied stretching of his ghost spine was just so good!! All the little remedies he tried to get Brightpaw to heal were so sweet!! Like curling up in their nests like normal days. And then him always having to be mindful of Brightpaw’s head just going thunk when he forgets to paw attention. And the way he saw Brightpaw dying at the end and he immediately goes up to Bluestar and then just as quickly turns away to transfer his new life to her is just… AAASHDJSKDK so good!!
New paragraph for how absolutely godtier the animation on Brightpaw's resurrection at the Moonstone was!! Like all of elmira's little details in how Brightpaw's legs and bushy tail moved were absolutely insane!! And then @fadedkat's lighting and expressions as Brightpaw goes from realizing shes alright to seeing Swiftpaw to going "okay go time" and charging back out of the cave. AAHHHHHDJSKSJDK
Watermark placement is a little different here than on insta bc still figuring out how to properly size my procreate canvases (bc I’m a dingus)

Speedy contribution to the Gray warrior cats with blue eyes prompt allows for my immense love and appreciation of @tennelleflowers's Drawing a __! series that's really helped me to understand and be able to break down character design. Hopefully it's pretty obvious who's who
More character thoughts below the cut but tldr; this was fun and I want to do another set. Maybe torties or amber-eyed tabbies outside the Tigerstar line
Bluestar's design was definitely heavily heavily influenced by the StarClan's Trials MAP that came out a few months ago. But also, my perception of Bluestar has always been influenced by the og SSS warrior cats design as well. I wanted her to look regal and angular without seeming too fierocious immediately, because she is also a very warm and mothering figure to those in her circle. I gave her tufted ears because I thought it'd be fun that that's where Whitestorm got his, even though I'm pretty sure they're from Thistleclaw.
Cinderpelt's design is the only one I can fully claim as mine originally, stemming from a sketch dump I did a few weeks ago when I was playing around with face shapes. I really wanted her to have prominent fluffy cheeks that only perk up more when she grins. I also wanted her to have soft, curved ears and be very fluffy - I don't think the books have ever described her as specifically fluffy, but I hc fluffy Cinderpelt and will not be taking any further suggestions. I know she matured a lot when she became a medicine cat apprentice and then medicine cat, but I hope she never lost her adorable sunny grin and her enthusiasm
Ashfur, I wanted to draw while he was still in his good-natured era. I haven't read New Prophecy in a hot minute but, other than his drama with Squilf, I remember him being a very respectable warrior. I wanted him look good-natured and almost unassuming, because no one expected him to be the villain leading up that fire scene. Afterall, he was trusted to mentor Birchpaw, the clan's sole new apprentice at the time, and then Lionblaze, who was both the grandson of Firestar and the son of the deputy - both hugely high honors.
Finally, Crowfeather definitely feels the least inspired of the designs, but my mind only has so many ways to illustrate angular and cranky Crow boy - long profile with large angular ears and not much fluff anywhere. I gave him a gray nose as opposed to the others' pink ones to try and make him look more stoic. The little tuft of fur on his chin is the most "facial hair" the man-boy can grow, but maybe he's come to believe that it makes his look stoically wisened from all he's lived through

10-minute, single layer, lineartless Jayfeather bc midterms are imminent but art brain craves attention
I’ve always loved the designs of Jay with him looking a lot like his father (angular and long with large/tall ears), but I wanted to add a bit of his mother in there too with some distinctly placed fluff around his chin and in a mini ruff on the back of his neck. Retrospectively, I think I could’ve pushed his shapes a lot more and made his ears even 1/3 bigger, but we can chalk it all up to learning. TBH, I think he looked better without the feather but one layer means no take backs 🙃

Hey'o all
Welcome to my side-sideblog for all my silly doodles and reblogs of battle cats. Probably won't be here a ton but it seemed correct to make a separate space for Warriors +/- adjacent things
Here to welcome you to this dusty little corner is a really rushed scribble of my og warriors OC of well over 15 years, Scarletwind. She is the herbalist of her clan and has lived a full life with me. This gal has certainly gone through several revisions and growing pains, but Scarly will always be near and dear to my heart
Special thanks and shoutout to @tennelleflowers and their series of Drawing a __!! for inspiring me both to pick up my old fanclan story of over 10 years again and at least outline a complete story line, as well as to return to my roots of Warrior cats as my muse of learning how to break down and push shapes in character design. I make no claim to fame that I'm actually good at either endeavors, but a quiet little space all my own seemed as comfortable and safe a space to try when the mood strikes
Anywho, please remember to drink plenty of water and happy scrolling
