What does it feel like to graduate?
So yesterday, I graduated from Florida International University with my Bachelor’s Degree in English with a Professional and Public Writing Certificate and an A average GPA. I was also in two honor societies, Tau Sigma and Sigma Tau Delta. So I had a few cords to show off at graduation. With all that said and laying out my accomplishments while attending FIU, I must say that graduation was one of the best days of my life but it was also kind of emotional for me. I was happy to be finally finished with my degree and to be out but at the same time, I’m going to miss all the people that made my experience so great as an English major at FIU. I really found a home with the English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta. With those incredible people, I felt like I belonged there. Also, the professors I had were just amazing. I don’t think that I had one bad professor. I enjoyed the class I took and learned so much. Though, after the whole graduation ceremony, I felt something else. I felt like “what’s next?” I put a lot of my time and being into my education. Those late nights studying and finishing papers, using my breaks to catch up on readings, and drinking a lot of coffee to keep me alive. I have a year before I move on to graduate school to get a master’s in writing but I don’t know what to do in the meantime. I am currently on the look out for jobs because of my student loan debt. But, if I don’t get a job, I don’t know what to do. All I know is that I’ll figure it out and find a way.
So, what does it feel like to graduate? I would say it feels liberating, kind of sad and uncertain.
