Audrey&Skittle, Awesome Photo, Great Job! Final~

For my final, I decided to go out of my comfort zone and try something new. After discovering how to make gifs and use After Effects in a previous video class, I have decided to create a scripted weird green screen adventure with my friend, Audrey. Our influences include Adult Swim, art videos, and video games. We want our audience to be excited. I created an intro to a “TV” show that didn’t actually exist. After thinking about it, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a video project that would be totally cool with a mini storyline behind it.

I also really wanted to put my green screen to use.

First, Audrey and I set up two cameras. For the first few scenes, we used tripods with gels to make it look weird and confusing. Then we set up a green screen twice, because we had a lot of things that we needed to record.

One of the more important steps was recording the part where we fly through the different dimensional portals with the sci-fi sound on top of it. I shot us spinning in circles, then sped up the footage and edited it with after affects. I used the masking tool, and keylighting in order to make the effects happen, and by using different layers and time-points, i made it look like we are flying around spinning through the matrix-y color epileptic thing. There are certain points that are meant to be more crappy than others, such as this particular dimension travel scene.

Next, we had to record ourselves flying out of the laundry basket into sim land, and then being in sim land and interacting and speaking sim language. We also had to make ourselves in The Sims ©EA and recorded the screen. We made the house and the fireplaces all set up precisely so we could put our green-screen selves in The Sim World. 

I then used the same us-flying the the matrix dimension.

For the next scene of Gazorpazorp: the planet of Gazorpazorp is ruled by superior female goddesses that have hands on their heads. Their greeting is “I am here if you need to talk” instead of hello. So to make this happen, Audrey made the planet of Gazorpazorp background while we also filmed us as female Gazorpazorpians. We had to film ourselves with a green screen sheet over our bodies and just recorded our hands. So, what I did is mask out the area i needed as well as used keylight to get the green out of the way. Then I made us both have arms on our heads that was our actual arms as Gazorpazorpian goddesses. We also had to record ourselves interacting with each other, which was kinda cool. Then Audrey proceeds to make a ‘raspberry’ noise, which makes the Gazorpazorpians angry and we are then banished from their planet.

Audrey And I are then put into a mysterious garden where we encounter David Bowie. I did most of the green screen edited in after affects, and the exploding parts using CC ball and keylight. I did alot of going back and forth using premiere and after effects because I needed to edit the sound.

While recording video on one camera, we also recorded sound on another using a microphone that sat on the other camera. So I had to do alot of editing the sound to the video in premiere while keeping the same quality of the video.

On top of using materials, we had costumes, and makeup done that we did ourselves. Most props and music were chosen by me.

The Future of Photography

The future of photography is something that could be either really good or really bad depending on what direction it goes in. Nowadays, everyone has a cell phone. Humans have it in our persona to prove everything. A picture is something that is solid proof of something happening. With IPhones, we are enabling people to not only have access to something that could end up disastrous but something good. An iphone camera can be really good in emergencies and proving something is real. In the art would, photography is seen in the lower class because everyone can just pick up a camera. It is sad that is what the world has become to. Photography itself is one of the most beautiful forms of manipulation of light. It is an invention through science and creativity. I think that a camera is equivalent to a paintbrush. Anyone can pick up a paint brush but it takes a real artist to create a master piece .

A photographer usually has an idea of what the outcome what looks. I think that with that, and having great talent, lighting technique and other schooling things, then it is great and that is an art. But when it comes to putting a photographer to doing video it’s kinda hard to transition. From first hand experience, going from photography to video is somewhat hard, but it enables a lot of places that you can take it. With photography and video, you can make gifs, videos, pictures, and other amazing weird things. It is branching away from classic photography and coming into a new digital world which includes video. 

Photography when it was invented is SO much different than it is now.

Our lives are saturated with iphones so anyone has the skill to take a picture. I think it will be hard to be successful in the photography field now, especially with being able to settings on automatic. Photography used to be mathematically and print based with negatives and chemicals. Now it is completely digital. And that’s okay.

Final Project Proposal:

For my final project, I’m going to be doing a video that I am going to include alongside my final gifs. The video will be a collaboration of Audrey and Skyttle, Awesome Photography, Great Job! 

Audrey and Skyttle take on the characters as a scientist and her friend. Skyttle, the scientist, answers her phone while hanging out with her friend, Audrey. Skyttle takes Audrey on an inter-dimensional journey. Skyttle won’t tell Audrey what they’re on a quest for. As Skyttle keeps hitting the wrong button on her inter-dimensional remote, the two are brought into three different dimensions: the SIMS world, the planet of Gazorpazopians, and the labyrinth. In the first two dimensions, Audrey and Skyttle meet versions of themselves in that dimension (SIM versions of Audrey and Skyttle characters and Gazorpazorpian versions of Audrey and Skyttle). After getting kicked off the Gazorpazorpian planet for making a vulgar sound (that of which does not exist), Audrey and Skyttle travel to the third dimension of the labyrinth where the voice of David Bowie sings faintly in the background. Going on a quick journey through the labyrinth, Audrey and Skyttle come across David Bowie as he is singing to a taco-totinos cat. At that moment, Skyttle and Bowie have a very quick dialogue where Bowie then gives Audrey the taco-totinos cat, exploding afterwards. Skyttle begins to scream Audrey’s name, as she is confused holding the taco-totinos cat. Audrey then awakens to Skyttle yelling her name in excitement to show her a picture of a taco-totinos cat as David Bowie plays in the background and Audrey realizes their inter-dimensional journey was just a dream. (or was it)

My digital project is going to be this video and four weird gifs of us in each dimension. I want them to work as a looping gif that can be posted and used on the internet.

Int. Digital Composite

 The idea behind this Photoshop composite was hard to come up with. At first, I had thought of using pictures from Google to make something similar to a fairy tale, or inserting myself into a surreal scene and make it look realistic. I did not want to come into the conflict of having low-resolution photos. So I thought about using my own photography and making something I can create, such as myself having a tea party with my different personas in my head. For each personality, I would have to take a separate layer for each picture. I set up a tripod and mounted a camera on it. I then proceeded to set it onto self timer. In order to get the lighting that I wanted, I needed to take each picture  in the same intervals of time. I wanted to get similar skin tones, shadows, and reflections. I took each picture without moving the camera or tripod within the course of a half an hour. Each picture needed to be one layer on the Photoshop file.

 When I uploaded the pictures, I first did some color corrections and applied them to each picture. Then I needed to pick a base layer to be on the bottom that would be most easiest. For every other layer, I cut myself out using the polygonal lasso tool and placed them precisely lined up with the furniture. I then used the pen tool in order to select the outlines, and output them into a mask layer. For the Harley Quinn layer, I had to completely cut out the pom-poms on the window because the lighting was slighting different on the original picture. The back right layer was the base layer. The top right layer was difficult because I had problems with lighting and shadows. I had to remake the reflection for the back right layer since the top right layer was difficult. I did this by using CTRL-J,  transforming it by flipping it, changing the opacity and layering it so that it was either screened, or overlaying the table just enough to look like a shadow. The left side was easier because the pictures didn’t cause issues with shadows and lighting. After making sure each shadow using burn and doge was correct, I went back and smoothed out each layer’s edges with the pen tool, selecting, and outputting into the mask. The final thing I wanted to do was retouch my face. For this I used the band aid tool, using alt to select the source, as well as made each skin tone look like the others with burn and doge.

i'm not really sure what else to put in this bio, other than list my love for tacos.

I don't really stay in one place unless it is the school year and i still don't stay in one place, i'm usually either in NYC/FL/CA. The only reason i'm in NYC is because of SVA. (:

Florida is my home because breakbeats and miami bass exist there and that's my kinda beat to break to.

I live in California because I have a circus career there

I really REALLY like tacos from California they are seriously the best thing to ever exist on earth and it's one of the reasons i haven't went back to my home planet just yet
