The underlying attitude that trans men and mascs don’t need protecting and uplifting is a manifestation of our hyper invisibility.

Just a few days ago a trans man was a victim of a hate crime resulting in the murder of his husband, and yet hardly anyone is talking about it being a hate crime against a transgender gay man. We are hyperinvisible; this means oppression against us is erased or ignored, not that we do not suffer from it.

Something I see often is trans mascs being told to “focus on protecting trans fems” instead of talking about the oppression we face as trans mascs. The effects of the patriarchy are just that pervasive. Men are the protectors and women are weak, so of course trans women need protecting and trans men have to do the protecting. Simultaneously, misogyny is weaponized against us. We are told to shut up and listen, we’re hysterical, reactionary, stop whining about our problems, we don’t know what we’re talking about.

Obviously trans fems and women are also victims of transphobia, the patriarchy, and misogyny. When transmisogyny first began being discussed by transfeminists the attitude against them was just as hostile. Cis feminists and other trans people alike fought against the idea of transmisogyny “existing”. They were questioned on why transmisogyny needed to be a term; “it’s just transphobia & misogyny”. Sounds a lot like things we hear today about the validity of anti-transmasculinity and transandrophobia as terms.

The bludgeons utilized against trans people to keep us in our place are made of the same material: transphobia, misogyny, the cisnormative and patriarchal ideas of what men and women are and their roles in society. This is not to say every trans person on earth experiences the exact same things, but that as a group we are all vulnerable, all need uplifting and protecting from oppressors. We can uplift and protect each other, in fact we MUST if we are going to survive. We do not need to completely silence one person to be able to listen to another. We are each others’ greatest strengths against our oppressors.

I was supposed to see Halsey live in Arkansas but the show was canceled so I thought I’d post the drawing I made to bring to the concert to hopefully give them.

I’m glad they’re safe and their tour is going well! I’m absolutely distraught I won’t get to see them but from what I’ve seen the tour is going amazingly and that makes me so happy.
