Concerning the Ever After High Visual Novel I want to make, I really wanted to ask other fans of eah who are interested in this project, what is something you'd be interesting seeing be a part of this project, and what is your favorite aspect about Ever After High as a whole?

It can be concerning art, characters, story, themes, pretty much anything you love about Ever After High, that you'd want included or expanded upon in this project! If you wish to respond please send me an ask to this blog, but before doing so please keep these key aspects of the project in mind! (Under the cut)

1. This visual novel will be, at its core, about Apple discovering and coming to terms with the fact that she's a lesbian, and how she experiences comphet (compulsory heterosexuality). It will explore many queer themes in each route, and is a queer story through and through. That being said, I would love to hear any queer concepts, themes, or experiences you'd like to see explored!

2. This is also a dating sim, with set romanceable characters. Those being Raven, Darling, Briar, and Daring (with Daring's route not being a true genuine romance, as she is a lesbian deep down). For the sake of not overcomplicating things, I won't be including more love interests than this. However, I have a few non romanceable main characters and side characters in mind, and would love to hear which side characters people would like to see included!

3. This story takes place while they are in their senior year of highschool, during Prom season, so given their age there will be no explicit or nsfw aspect to this story, either visual or described in the text. They will still experience attraction and have intimate moments together physically, just nothing of an explicitly sexual nature. The focus will be the romance side of these interactions. (Basically no sex or fanservice will be included or hinted at). I would love to hear any romantic situations or tropes you'd like to see explored, and between which characters!

4. The story will take place awhile after the events of Epic Winter, in their senior year, and is in a lot of ways a continuation of eah from Apple's perspective, told through her relationships with the other characters. What are aspects of ever after high's plot and characters, that was left unfinished, would you like to see adressed in this fan work?

5. While this project is more focused on the characters and story of eah, I recognize that eah was designed to be a fashion doll line first and foremost. That being said, what would people like to see on the fashion and art side of this visual novel? What kind of outfits would you want to see included, other than their day to day main outfits and Prom outfits? Most if not all of the art for the game will be done by myself, however I be opening things up to include guest artists much later in the process as well!

Some sprite sketches of the female love interests for the eah visual novel idea! These are just sketches meant to get their poses, proportions, and faces down, as well as a base so I can sketch out all their different expressions on (which I have done for Raven but not the other two yet). Aka the details are not ironed out whatsoever lol

More eah vn ramblings under the cut!

Okay so based on the amount of love interests, non romanceable main characters, side characters, and alternate poses I want to do for this, I estimated it's going to be about 23 unique sprites, with about 17 alternate outfits. And for backgrounds I'm guessing at least 18, and for sure minimum 12 cg's (full illustrations at important story moments). I won't think about interface and UI art until I start actually making the game, so no estimates for that.

On the art front alone this project is going to take many many many months, since it's a lot of work I'll need to do to get all of that done and polished. But I'm having fun so far working on it!

Also as a heads up I'll for sure show sketches of about 70% of the art I do as I progress with it, but all of the cg's, late game designs, and fully finished versions of the art won't be shared until I'm actually done and start doing promotional stuff, or until the games released, for the sake of not spoiling everything lol

A lot of whats going on right now is just planning stuff, like what needs to be drawn and written and outlined, and these sprite sketches are more to get the ball rolling so I can visualize what I'm doing, if that makes sense.

That's all on the project for now, I'll be tagging my posts about it with 'eah vn' for now until I come up with a proper name (which probably won't be for a longggggg time). Thanks for reading this far and for all the interest! <3

I've been rewatching Ever After High while working on some sprites for the EAH visual novel I wanna make, and I'm curious what the fandom consensus is on Epic Winter. Because personally, it feels like a realllll dip in quality.

I'm pretty sure it was a soft reboot, with the new theme song and the whole "Power Princess" thing, and I'm relatively sure they got mostly writers for this special as well. Whatever it was, it feels like it's geared towards a younger audience, and a lot of the new characters (and old characters who go on the main adventure) feel much more childish. It especially comes off as bad with it being after dragon games, which while still being very kid oriented, had slightly darker and more complex themes and plot beats, as well as just being really good overall imo.

I also feel like Crystal, Jackie, and Northwind are really unlikeable characters? I'm sure someone out there loves them, and no hate to that person, but engaging with the fandom side of things, I rarely see fanart or fanfic about them, and I feel like that is somewhat indicative of their overall popularity among fans...

I am very curious what other peoples opinions are on Epic Winter tho, so feel free to interact and lmk what you think of the special!

Okay so I've gotten SUCH positive feedback from people (tysm!!!) that this may be turning into a real project 👀

For this I want to try to make as much as I can myself, as a way to push my abilities and learn how to make VN's, but will definitely be asking for assistance with some aspects of the process (like music, beta readers/testers, ect.) down the line, so please look out for that! I'm also thinking of fun ways to include guest art as unlockables and what not, but nothing is solidified yet as there is a lot I need to sort out and a lot of grunt work I'll need to do in the beginning before anything else, but I'll be sharing periodic updates on different aspects of the process as I complete them (working on some concept art as I write this lol)

There's no set deadline for this project, as I want to take my time and make it the best it can be, but I'll make sure to keep everyone updated, and once things are far enough along make an offical tumblr for it and everything!

All 4 love interests plus other background characters would be on the committee, and you get to choose who you spend time with based on which prom planning activities you choose to check up on/help out with.

The story culminates in who Apple chooses to ask to go to Prom with her, and if the player has enough affection points with who they decide to ask for them to accept. Daring will have already asked Apple to Prom, to which she will have said she had to think on it, and if either who the player asks says no (due to not enough affection points), OR they willingly choose Daring, Apple will go to Prom with Daring.

If Apple goes to Prom with Daring, she will have a good time, but 'something' (comphet) will make her feel off and melancholic. If she goes with one of the female love interests, they will have a fun yet distinct and unique time from the other female love interests, with unique CG art for each.

Each ending will have an epilogue with unique CG art as well. If Darling was taken to Prom, Apple will end up with her and have fulfilled her Snow White destiny with Darling as her Charming, and will be happy and fullfilled as queens of the land, which is filled with unique and fluid destinies (aka Raven isnt forced to be the evil queen lol).

If Raven is chosen, Apple will have become a Rebel in the end and broken tradition and not become the next Snow White, and lives out her days going on adventures with Raven as her partner, NOT becoming queen and not living life as a royal, yet still very happy.

If Briar is chosen, she also becomes a Rebel like in the Raven ending, except she still lives a life of luxury and royalty with Briar as her partner in a grandiose castle, however she did not become Snow White or follow in her mother's footsteps, thus not becoming queen. Very happy in her life of luxury.

If Daring is chosen, either actively or by default, then... Apple gets everything she thought she wanted. Everyone's fairytale fate is enforced, she becomes Snow White, and becomes Queen. But she isn't happy. There is no love between her and Daring, and she is consumed by regret.

So 3 happy endings and one sad ending. Also Maddie would play a decent sized role, being someone Apple could go to for advice and friendship, as well as Ashlynn to a smaller degree.

I love this idea but it would be so much workkkkkkkkk to create something like this so I probably never will but. It's fun to dream!!!

The way Raven is the one to assume Briar doesn’t want to follow her destiny because she would miss out on parties is so interesting. She’s the one who should understand more than anyone why Briar wants to avoid her destiny. But she doesn’t. Imagine being Briar and realizing that perhaps the biggest rebel there is doesn’t take your destiny seriously. Doesn’t take you seriously.

I’d love to hear you expand on the dappling ship!

I’ve been mulling over how the curse was lifted. And I’ve been shifting between two (three?) modes.

A) Apple and Darling had a relationship pre-curse that wasn’t shown because Darling was introduced late. (And if yes, how friendly were they?)

B) Apple likes the branch of Charming’s we are familiar with and Darling was the one option she was actually ok with (because, she’s gay).

C) Like B but if any of her friends tried what Darling did. (Raven, Briar, Ashlynn etc)

I love these ideas!! I personally subscribe more to B, and think that the destiny's in eah are much more personalized to that generation of fairytale successors than people realize. (Much more under the cut!)

By that I mean because Apple is a lesbian, her true love and fated Charming would be a girl, and because Daring acts very self-centered and conceited, he would fit the role of the Beast better. I like to think their Destiny's are much more fluid and dynamic than people tend to think (due to the rigid and somewhat traditional way of thinking of their parents and general society).

I think this because I feel like it would HAVE to be like this to make the fairytales continue to be engaging, and because each fairytale kid IS their own person. Like I feel like what eah was leading up to is that their destiny's are fluid and at the end of the day are written by themselves and their decisions and lived experience, and that has always been the case even for their parents. That the Rebels and the Royals aren't all the different because living your life and being your authentic self is their TRUE destiny. Just before now, their society was telling them their fairytales had to go a specific "acceptable" way.

Because let's take Apple as an example right. In the original Snow White story, Snow White lost her father and was raised by her stepmother who became the (evil) queen and sole ruler due to his passing. Her stepmother resented Snow White and her beauty so much she forced her to live the life of a servant, until she eventually tried to have Snow White killed by the huntsman. That was the original Snow Whites lived experience growing up.

Apple White? She lives a life full of privilege and expectations, her struggles in life is feeling like she wont be able to live up to her mother's fairytale footsteps of being a great queen of their land, and when Raven rebels, if she will even have her fairytale at all. Her life and struggles are SO far removed of that of the original Snow White its a little comical.

So what does their magical fairytale universe do in my opinion? They change up the story to fit the person! A big struggle Apple would face that would make a very interesting story and compelling moral, would be if she lived her life always trying to fulfill expectations, but there was an innate part of her that isnt able to conform (being lesbian), and her being forced to confront herself, her identity, and everything she thought she had to suppress, by her Charming being a woman. It would be a fairytale about overcoming adversity, always being true to yourself, and finding your true love. Those morals are exactly what the original Snow White is about!

If Apple like, literally followed in the footsteps of the original Snow White and lived her exact life, there would be no morals, no lesson. It would just be the status quo, which isn't really a story worth telling.

Same with Darling, her having to be her true Princely self in private, because that is unheard behavior for a woman (let alone a princess), and then the thought of her being recognized for her genuinely selfless acts of bravery and courage by being given the fairytale honor of being the Prince role in the Snow White story? I love that sm. It is much more interesting for her to be the Prince Charming because she's saving Apple out of her genuine want for her to wake up and to save her from an eternal slumber. Not Daring doing it because that means he gets to be King. No lesson is learned if Daring is the Prince. If Darling is, the audience learns that anyone, specifically women, can be a courageous and chivalrous hero if they truly want to be, and it's something that is earned, not something that your born with.

Now I really like Rapple as well, but I love Dappling because I feel like it feeds into the lore of their world and the story being told by EAH as a piece of media more imo. And I like to think of them being together as Apple coming to terms with who she is, that she doesn't have to be this idealized straight Snow White she's always been told to be, and Darling learning to be her true authentic self publicly, and that she shouldn't have to hide who she is and all the good deeds she does.

I do also like the idea of them having some romantic tension pre dragon games too, I wish that was shown or explored more. I've actually started writing a fic about that, but I need to start over since I hate how I wrote the first chapter lmao.

Sorry this is soooo incredibly long, I have so many EAH thoughts swirling around in my head. Tysm for the ask this was a lot of fun to answer!!!

Okay so anyone else ship Snow White and the Evil Queen???? (TO CLARIFY in eah exclusively, where they are depicted as the same age and having gone to highschool together in the past)

Likeeeee in Dragon Games the tension and rivalry getssss to me. Like I feel like they have casual hate filled flings frequently (before the Evil Queen gets sent to the mirror ofc). And just the obsession with eachother because how attached both are to their roles in their fairytale, just hnrgggg

And even the idea of Apple being a repressed lesbian, like I imagine Apple confesses to her mom having gay thoughts at one point and Snow is just like:

"Oh honey, that's completely normal! I assume it's about Raven, and let me tell you it's absolutely natural to feel this way. Its just you confusing your passionate feelings about your fateful villian with attraction, it happened to me too, believe it or not! But just remember that love with your prince will feel different, much more safe, comfortable, domestic even, allowing you to live the life you rightfully deserve. Dont you want that?"

And Apple just EATS that shit up and takes it to heart. Whenever she eventually brings this up in front of her other princess friends, as if its common knowledge ofc, they're like Uhhhh. Nope. Definitely Do Not feel that way. And Apple has a crisis lmao
