who gets overwhelmed by small acts of kindness?

Tsukishima. It’s easy to take most of Oikawa’s actions as teasing, so when he realizes it’s the other being genuinely kind, he’s basically a stuttering mess.

who flinches at sudden movements?

Neither of them. Sudden movements are part of their everyday lives, so there’s no need to.

who is most confused as to why their S.O. is still with them?

Tsukishima would be a bit more obvious with his confusion, likely going as far as asking outright, whereas Oikawa would never voice it, unless he was in a state that caused his usual way of thinking to be altered somehow, but he’d constantly question it.

who has to constantly check their S.O. still loves them?

Both of them! Oikawa’s way of checking is more of him blurting out  that he loves him unexpectedly at the strangest times and watching the others response. Tsukishima does something similar, except he tends to ask during quieter moments, such as when Oikawa is drifting to sleep, as the brunet tends to be more honest during these times.

who says the other/s would be better off with someone else?

Both of them again, basically with the same explanation as the confusion one >.<

who gets surprised when they are given gifts?

Oikawa constantly showers Tsukishima with gifts, so he’s always pleasantly surprised when he’s given one. (And he tends to thank him a million times due to the shock and just overall happiness.)

who is most likely to break down on the other and how does their S.O. attempt to calm them down?

Tsukishima. Oikawa has never thought himself too good at comforting people so he does what he can. Usually that just involves staying with him, and responding to him honestly. Lying to the blond during a time like that only seems to make things worse.

who is most self conscious in public?

Oikawa!!!

who is more likely to apologize a million time for a tiny mistake?

Definitely Oikawa. Tsukishima doesn’t apologize easily, but he definitely doesn’t forgive easily, either. Oikawa will have to work for forgiveness everytime. (Tsukishima tends to pretend to be angry even when he isn’t, simply because Oikawa’s reactions interest him.)

who admits they’re scared only when they think their S.O. is asleep and how does the other react?

Both of them would. Oikawa moreso, as he isn’t a big fan of presenting weaknesses to others. Tsukishima is more of a silent comfort, tending just to hold him until he falls asleep, whereas Oikawa prefers to whisper sweet nothings and stick close to the blond in his attempts to soothe his fear.

who never thinks they’re good enough for the other?

They both seem to think as much. Neither of them can get why someone so amazing would choose someone like them.

who takes a bullet for the other

They’d both do it for each other in an instant.

is oitsuki a thing. like them going to the same place to pick out glasses, bumping into each other by accident. oikawa being a little shit and trying on tsukki's glasses, going 'oh look, we have similar prescriptions' and looks over at tsukki and just drops the fucking ball and says '...oH.' saltishima and saltkawa join forces in sass wars, oikawa becoming more passive aggressive, tsukki more silly in each others presence to match. pass ushijima once and it's like a sudden flood of jibes.

i don’t know if it’s a thing but i can see it becoming one.  maybe not right away.  but somehow they keep running into each other at places and at first it was really annoying and frustrating and it pissed them both off but then one of them passive aggressively snarks at someone while the other is nearby and they hear them and snicker and then?? suddenly??? they’re not so bad of a person maybe?

imagine Tsukki finding out about what Ushijima said to Oikawa and then when he and Oikawa meet up Tsukki goes all mocking “You should have come to Karasuno.” and when Oikawa just stares at him Tsukki’s like “so we could have kicked your ass sooner, obviously.” and Oikawa just busts out laughing because it shouldn’t be funny the whole Ushiwaka thing still pisses him off and hurts a little but something about the way Tsukki delivers it just strikes him as hilarious.  So from then on any time they see each other Tsukki opens with that line and Oikawa is all “Oh hell no your school colors are hideous.” or any other insult or line he can think of (”I don’t want to be a bird ew.”  “There would be too much refreshing on one team.”  “It’s no fun to crush Tobio-chan if we’re on the same team.”  “And see your face everyday?  No thank you.”)

and Oikawa is shit at taking care of himself but he sees Tsukki with taped fingers one time or a really bad limp from a bad landing (after colliding with Hinata probably) and he just scolds Tsukki and gives him a 30 minute lecture about taking care of himself and Tsukki just stares him down because really?  You’re giving me a lecture about taking care of yourself?  REALLY?

Tsukki seeing Oikawa in the stands before a Karasuno vs Seijou match and Oikawa does the peace sign and winks and Tsukki just flips him off and turns back to the team and Oikawa laughs and turns his attention back to Seijou and everyone is just ?????  Tsukki has a sudden rivalry with Oikawa?  what?

just two assholes who can actually be genuinely decent people around their best friends who find each other so they can be salty assholes around someone without it feeling draining at all and without worrying about offending the other person.

I've decided that Oitsuki is def a very fluffy ship ok. They've both had so many emotional struggles involving vball over the years? Them encouraging each other so much. And Oikawa is WEAK for when tsukki brings random science facts into daily convos

Oh my GOD thank you so much for this. I’ve been thinking about these two for a while now, but I haven’t been able to really make them work? In my mind? But you totally fixed it HOLY SHIT.

They both recognize something in the other. A pain, that is not exactly like their own, but it’s not too far away either. When they play against each other in the practice and official matches, they both try to stay away from each other. Oiks thinks that Tsukki is just lazy, or doesn’t care about volleyball because CLEARLY this is not his full potential yet, and it’s a true tragedy to him.

Tsukki thinks Oikawa is way too invested (he is, sometimes). In his mind, he puts him in the same category as all the other volleyball maniacs he needs to stay away from lest he starts liking it, because Conceal Don’t Feel, Tsukki must not actually like Volleyball.

But THEN!! Oikawa sees the match against shiratorizawa. Not on TV. He sees with his own two eyes how much Tsukki has developed, and it is BEAUTIFUL to him. And when everyone see the physical pain from his injury, Oikawa sees the emotional pain on his face- and it’s so clear, how can no one else see it?

And (let me dream okay I’m straying from canon more and more omg) just think, what if he actually left his seat to go find Tsukki? And talk to him? What if they exchange numbers and start talking more? And true, their pain isn’t the same, but it helps to talk to someone who is willing to listen.

Oikawa is 100% digging his sass and salt, and Tsukki grows to like his antics. Imagine Oikawa constantly flirting with him, and Tsukki keeps shutting him down but inside he is DYING.

And just yes. Domestic OiTsukki would be an absolute blessing. They’ll constantly tease and taunt each other, and I don’t mean usually, I mean 24/7 to the point people think they’re actually fighting. So much passive aggressive shit. But then?? If someone gives the other shit?? They’d be so protective of the other holy shit. The literal definition of “excuse me?? I’m the only one allowed to talk shit to my bf?? Gtfo hoe”
