Wrekodara and the Sea Serpent.
Ink, watercolor & colored pencils on paper.
© noxsatvrn
The artwork depicts one scene from Serat Dewaruci, a narrative poem by Yasadipura I, the royal poet of Kasunanan Surakarta based on an even older text, Nawaruci, by a hindu priest Mpu Çiwamurti.
Wrekodara, also known by the name Bhima and Sena is a figure from the Hindu Epic Mahabharata. The 2nd eldest of the five Pandawa born ritualistically through the blessing of Lord Vayu, short-tempered yet kind and compassionate he's the strongest one among his siblings.
In the Pre-islamic Java, Wrekodara was adored by the common folk especially in the agriculture community as he was venerated as the symbol of masculinity and fertility, proven by many archaeological findings of ancient statues depicting Wrekodara. Traditions and myths surrounding Wrekodara persists to this day through the tradition of Wayang Kulit (Javanese shadow puppetry) telling stories about him during harvest festivals in several remote villages as well as the myth about the origin of a sacred spring near Dieng Highlands called Tuk Bima Lukar.

This whole thing is very long (longer than I expected, so I gave up)
To be honest, I read this because I saw some people used a part of Yi Zhongtian's book to "validated" Sun Quan to punish Lu Xun and even praise him as being wise for it when even people at the time didn’t think so (someone from Wei said, I forgot who exactly).. Overall, this is from Yi Zhongtian, a respected historian. It's indeed reasonable, but it seems (in my opinion) they haven’t read the entire book (or at least the later part), where Yi Zhongtian also criticizes Sun Quan "...Until his death, Sun Quan never truly trusted the Jiangdong gentry. That's why Sun Quan acted autocratically and imposed harsh punishments, leading to a suppression of free expression throughout Eastern Wu, causing people to lose trust and loyalty. Wu became the most politically unstable state. Moreover, the Jiangdong gentry could not compete with the Northern aristocracy, and as a result, Eastern Wu ultimately fell into the hands of the Jin dynasty...."
It’s like they ... genuinely believe Lu Xun was the one at fault (yes, he wasn’t wise in this incident though) but based on Yi Zhongtian himself, Lu Xun's fate was already decided even if he didn't do anything and it was from Sun Quan’s deep distrust of the gentry
Pin San Guo - Yi Zhongtian: Chapter 47
"...So, what was the standard by which Sun Quan drew the line? It was faction. In the "Crown Prince party", those who were punished were all from Jiangdong, others were left alone, Zhuge Ke was even promoted. Clearly, others (generals from Huai-Si regions and the Northern) could casually participate in the matter of establishing the heir without issue, the Jiangdong gentry could not, Lu Xun especially could not! In reality, those targeted in the Lu Xun case were all from Jiangdong and had relationships with Lu Xun. For example Gu Tan was a maternal relative of Lu Xun, Wu Shan was the one who reported the news to Lu Xun. Another important figure was Zhu Ju, although part of the "Crown Prince party" but belonged to one of the "Four Great clans" of Wu Commandery, and thus wasn’t punished until 5 and a half years later. So in my opinion, protecting the Crown Prince was just the surface reason for Lu Xun’s punishment, being a member of the Jiangdong aristocracy was only a partial reason. Ultimately, Sun Quan simply wanted to punish Lu Xun..."
