June is an excellent time to implant because with cooler weather just a few months away, it should help extend the life of the implants done today. Happy Saturday! ☀️ WE DID IT!! 🙌🏼 Ryan, Tim (our 15 year old son) and I loaded the last few HEAVIEST pieces of our coops today. The turkey coop is an 8x8, fully insulated, with home windows, the whole nine yards. Then there was an 8x8 roof with composite shingles for another shed that we loaded. Talk about heavy. 😰 But the three of us got it done, with the help of the sturdy cart we built in the wee hours, after seeing our first idea fail miserably last weekend. . We would like to thank everyone that came out to help move everything to the new property! The work is far from over, however. We have fence to put up, coops to reconstruct, and post holes to dig! So stay tuned for work party dates! 🙌🏼 . We’d also like to take this opportunity to THANK our neighbors... for giving us the push we needed to move to the perfect property and room to expand and save MORE roosters! 🙌🏼 Roosters are always the underdog and why we’ll never turn our backs on them. 🐓 People love wildlife, companion animals, even farm mammals. 🐄 🐖 But the birds need our help the most, as there is far more of them in need, and roosters will remain our focus. To truly know a rooster, is to love a rooster. The haters just make us fight harder! On the third day, the boys were comfortable enough to dust bathe together. 🙌🏼 For the last 16 days, we have worked 16 hours, from sun up to sun down, for the animals. The finish line of phase 1 is nearing. 🏁 There is only 1 flock and 3 coops left to move. We fight for animals when we’re exhausted, sore, bruised and blistered. We fight for animals to give them a voice, because if we don’t, who will? We will always put the best interests of the animals FIRST, even when it’s tough and others may not like it. It’s about the animals, period. 🐓🐄🐖🐈🐇🐟🦃 BIG thanks to everyone that has taken the time to come out and help so far! Friends have taken time off work, traveled great distances, and worked in the hot sun to help get our animals moved, and we can’t thank you enough. 🙏🏻 We are eternally grateful. Our new view! We can’t wait to look out and see our family every day! 💗 We still have quite a bit of mowing and trimming to do, but it’s starting to come together. We worked our butts off all weekend long and were able to move 8 birds onto the property. Oh! And we finally bought our own pick up to use for STL! We had to wait until after closing went through, but it’s come in so handy already!! 🙌🏼 This coming weekend will be another big work party with lots going on in both locations. This is why we talk about implants so much. 🚨 FIVE 🚨 more girls made the trip up today. Lucille (first photo of feet), Lizzy (not pictured), Libby, Cinnamon & Snow all received hormonal implants. As you can see from the first photo, even ***BACKYARD HENS*** get depleted of nutrients from the burden of laying eggs. Lucille was someone’s backyard hen. The left side is after we got her home back in November. Her nails were overgrown, she had Vit A deficiency, and look how pale her legs and feet are. 😱 It’s so crazy to see the comparison side by side. When you see her every day, you don’t notice the small changes. The left side is from today. Lucille received her second implant this year. Her little body gets to have a break and hang on to those nutrients! Look how yellow (as they should be) and better looking her feet and legs are now! Here at STL, our focus is on quality care of the lives we save. We make that promise to every animal that comes through our doors. 💦 Cool refreshing H2O! 💦 Bianca is a young leghorn that was found as a stray last fall. She had bumblefoot on both feet when she came to us. She gets an implant that prevents her from laying, which is why her comb is small and her coloring is perfect.
