So if Mando lives another 50 years, Baby Yoda will be the equivalent of a 3 year old when Mando dies, so he may not remember Mando when he grows up depending on how that species’ memory works…

The face reveal signifies OUR relationship as the audience to Din Djarin.

Aight so hear me out. At first I was pretty impartial to the face reveal. I hoped he would reveal his face to baby yoda- to someone who he'd considered an incredibly close friend and ally. I was pretty skeptical of IG-11 being the first character to see his face.

But you see, he isn't there yet. He has no relationship with any character deep enough that he'd willingly reveal his face to them- yes not even baby yoda. That's one of his major arcs that's gonna come later in the season, and is gonna need alot more development.

No, the only people who know him well and true enough is the audience.

There is a reason we only see his face after we see the complete flashback.

We see how his own rescue directly paralllels baby yoda's. We finally understand how a hardened bounty hunter can be swayed by an abandoned baby. We see the image of himself that he tries to show everyone, and who he really is. We see his relationship with his people and how important his heritage is to him. We've learned about his past business with less savory types, and how he at one point enjoyed violence for violence's sake. And when faced with death, we've seen his selflessness.

Him having the courage to reveal his face to other characters/other characters seeing his face is a different emotional turning point.

For now, it is we the audience that knows him best and that is why we get to his face. And now that we know him completely as he is right now. We get to watch him grow.

I was thinking about force healing and how its not really seen before, I thought to myself “Oh maybe its’ something only a dyad can do!” Then I remembered ep7 of The Mandalorian and thought “shit...”

Din only appears to be stoic because of his helmet and because he doesnt like talking to people but now we know from the range of expressions he displayed when he had the helmet off that he is most likely constantly emoting under there. In this essay i will-

SPOILER ALERT FOR EPISODE 8!!!!!!

But can we pleASE talk about Din's facial expressions when IG took offhis helmet.

First off he looks dazed and weak from the bloodloss. He probably wouldve still stuck to keeping his helmet on and dying if he was more awake.

Second, he's looks so PHYSICALLY fragile. We assume he doesn't get injured because nothing pierces the armor- but all those bumps and tumbles and punches dents his face- his helmet digs into his skin and tears. So u can only imagine what he looked like after the mud horn encounter.

Third, and most importantly, he looks so EMOTIONALLY vulnerable. As he should. This is him literaly at his most vulnerable- helmet off, face bare. And the way he stares at IG. He's terrified. He looks like the same kid that watched his parents and his people be slaughtered- and probably thought he was next too. And he's looking for something. Acceptance? Disgust? Most likely he feels deformed. How many times have people joked about him being ugly under the helmet? How many people have made it a big deal? And when IG does not react and only works does he relax and look away.

I think the best part of the Mandalorian is how it doesn't paint Mando to be a stoic unfeeling killer. Other characters do, but we see the real him- he jokes, he asks for help, he gets the shit beat out of him. Lots of things overwhelm him. He's such a vulnerable character, even when he does his best to hide it from others. But we see his vulnerability more here.

He isn't a (traditionally) handsome young white protagonist. He's beaten up, he's rough, he's old- he's vulnerable. He was so vulnerable that he couldn't let a child come to any sort of danger just because he saw himself in him.

And that's what makes him so fucking compelling.

Listen. Mando showing his face can go either 3 ways:

1. Pure elation.

Where he's super happy and he reunites with baby yoda or something and he takes off his helmet and he's crying tears of joy which will kill me.

2. Pure tragedy.

In which Baby Yoda's gravely harmed and he needs to see his son so he takes off his helmet which will kill me.

3. By Force.

In which his armor is confiscated or stolen from him or any situation where he's forced to take it off without his consent and people not close to him will see his face and the main bad guys will probably gloat and seeing him so vulnerable and angry and hopeless will kill me.

(4. It'll just be a throw away thing like his helmst is on fire or short circuiting and he throws it off and everyone's shook for a momment but he just keeps fighting. Im hoping it isnt this with all the build we got)

((Or he's not gonna show his face at all which honestly im 100% okay with. I respect this fictional man's boundaries and im not clammoring to see his face w/o his consent lol))

Anyway whatever happens it WILL kill me.

People be like 'wow we got so much finn/poe we were fed so well!!' And im like,,, no... we were not.

Mostly we saw 2 actors gunning for the romance they want and feel is natural for their characters and are ultimately not getting it bcus of corporate overlord disney.

And they had the *audacity* to add the two ladies kissing in the end to appease the fans? To get to pretend that they're progressive? Oh my god imagine how tired we are.

I used to depend on mainstream media for rep too, but ever since ive moved on to more independent works (podcasts, books, webcomics, comics, even more indie shows and movies) i began to learn what real representation looks like. You'll be surprised how present lgbt people can be in media. How normalized we are if the artist chooses to do so. There is no tip-toeing, no misinterpretable looks, no bread crumbs. We deserve to exist in plain sight.

Yeah ok we got alot in tros. But breadcrumbs also seem like alot when compared to nothing.
