It's still April so here's something silly
What if Dyne lived and joined Barret on his trip back to see Marlene after saving the planet? What if they stopped at Costa Del Sol? What if they watched the sunset together, contemplating their past, present, and future? What if they kissed-

Thank you for providing the fandom with all of this amazing Dyne (and Dyne/Wallace) art, their story CRUSHED me and your art has healed me
Thank you for the lovely ask. ^^
Their story also crushed me and my art is also for the sake of healing myself.
I'm happy to provide, although I do sometimes wish I didn't have to make all of the fanart myself.
Oh well, that's what happens when you like a side character. ^^'

I drew him again
I don't even like him
Was making a totally different piece that happened to feature this guy
This is the happiest I've been with a drawing in a little while... and it had to be GUS???

I'm not the kind of "cool autism" that gets a pass by mocking people online. I'm the kind of autism which is likely to get me mocked online.

Spoilers for the ff7 rebirth barret date
A small but significant difference between the English and French versions of the Barret date that I noticed.
When Barret asks Cloud about having a soulmate.
Instead of asking:
"So, who is it?"
He asks:
"So, which of the two?"
Implying he's asking about just Tifa and Aerith.
That's a small shame but it makes sense I guess.

Spoilers for chapter 8 of ff7 rebirth
I'm looking at the ff7 rebirth cutscenes in French out of curiosity and there's a deeply unwell part of my brain that wants to watch the whole thing (13 hours) just to compare what I think of the performances across languages. Like the choice of wording, intonation, ect...
So far everyone sounds pretty good.
Clouds voice is deeper and more matter of fact sounding.
Barret is a bit gruffer and sounds almost older than he is. He's got a harsher quality to his voice.
Tifa sounds pleasant and grounded as expected.
Aerith sounds soft and delicate as a fairy. Almost dream like.
Vincent's voice sounds I think just a wee tad softer and higher than the English version.
Cid sounds good and I'm glad they didn't go the route of him having a thick American speaking French accent.
Cait sith sounds very very whimsical.
Nanaki sounds good aswell, his red voice is a smidge softer on the ears and his nanaki voice sounds slightly deeper and dopier?
Yuffie sounds adorable to me at least.
These are based on skimming clips very briefly so I can't speak to the depths of the performances overall (even though I really really want to)
OK OK OK OK
So I watched the Dyne and Barret scene in French and first off I personally enjoyed the performances a lot (I can see someone else finding them a bit much)
Also they've interestingly included more breathing in the acting. Especially cause it's higher action there's a few shots of just the characters breathing heavily and I think it adds in places. (Although again I can see someone else finding it a bit much)
Secondly! I think the word choices and phrasing actually makes Dyne's emotions and sentiments much clearer than in the English version.
God I'm so tempted to type out and break down the scene line by line and trying my best to translate it but aaaagh that'd be ridiculous.
I will say that they've worded lines in such a way that makes Dyne's dialogue more clear and maybe even a bit too forward for some. But it's really helping me understand the scene and it's back and forth better.
A bit from Barret I liked:
"I'm here to save you idiot!"
A bit from Dyne I like:
"I hear it. Echoing in my head. Eleanor's soft voice. Telling me I've got no right to resent you. That what happened to us wasn't your fault."
There's also another line from him that's very different from the English version:
"Every time I kill someone, my soul dies a little bit more. It's so dark now."
Also! His voice gets all soft and choked up talking about Marlene aaaaaahghahah
Also very very interesting line difference when Dyne dies:
"Live Barret..and suffer...in my place."
And when Cloud reassures Barret that his friends are here for him Barret responds:
"You're feeling compassionate today huh?"
God I wanna break it all down line by line you have no idea hrrrrrgh

Spoilers for chapter 8 of ff7 rebirth
Ohhh The more I think about the corel prison segment, the more grumpy I get.
Specifically, the lack of atmosphere and the feeling of wasted time and potential.
The way they send you on small quests for the chocobo greens that, as far as I remember, have nothing to add to the story at hand. They feel like a waste of time.
The way the whole prison area feels devoid of any real sense of tension or danger.
The way Gus is not fully comedic, but not fully serious either. I think his henchmen especially deflate any presence he could have. They are irritating and comical.
I can imagine, instead of cactuar hunting, Cloud could try and gather information about the gun armed man to try and peice together what happened for himself. Instead of relying solely on one lead from a very unreliable source in Gus.
He made a case for why it wasn't Barret already and if I'm being honest the game doesn't seem to bother maintaining any doubt or mystery about if it was Barret or not in the players mind.
Why, then, spend so much time away from Barret if they aren't even maintaining the "did he kill those people?" tension. In a segment of the story that's supposed to centre him and his backstory.
Imagine if they'd taken the opportunity to flesh out the prison's relationship to Dyne as a character now that he isn't the boss anymore.
I can imagine npcs here and there having a few lines hinting at Dyne and his backstory with the prison. Like what he's doing there and how he got there. I don't think it'd need to fill in every minute detail of his past few years, but it'd be cool to have one npc who's terrified to even talk about him for example. Build him up as this mysterious and dangerous presence looming over this short chunk of the story.
Building up this monster in the mind of the player before we get to see, through Barret, the man behind the gun arm.
I dunno most of the latter half of chapter 8 just wreaks of missed potential to me.
My main complaint is that we should've gotten more than the barest of minimum story for Barret and Dyne.
