Is there any advice you would give to any artists who are just starting out?
Oh man there are so many ways to do it. I think it really depends on what you want out of being an artist. I can tell you what I did!
I started out by basically ripping off an artist I really admired when I was a teenager and
So basically after like ten years I finally had a style that was reasonably okay to look at. But it still felt like it lacked structure, and I didn’t really feel confident that I was approaching it in like an intellectual way. To that end, I absolutely recommend classes on Schoolism. I’m not sure what you want out of art, but I can tell you the two classes that helped me the most (also you don’t have to do the critiqued sessions, you can just subscribe for access to the lecture videos if you want, it’s way cheaper):
1. Drawing Fundamentals with Thomas Fluharty
This will be SUPER helpful if you’re just starting out. It’ll give you a lot of basic information on structure, composition, and lighting, and it’s a relatively short course, so check it out!
2. Fundamentals of Character Design with Stephen Silver
I can’t even begin to tell you how helpful this class has been to me. This is where I learned how to observe and draw different parts of human anatomy in appealing ways. It’s great for learning how to build a really good foundation for a character design. Here’s my favorite example of my art before and after this class:
I’m super proud of that improvement. These two drawings are only like three months apart!
I guess above all else, don’t get disheartened. You’re not gonna get to where you want to be right away (hell, I’m still not where I want to be). You’re gonna have sketchbooks full of thousands of “bad” drawings, but you should NEVER feel like it’s a waste of time. You’re always moving toward something better.

The SU rant
I really love this show but god fucking dammit this fucking fanbase.I mean, there are some nice people who love the show, just look at the roundtable, cartoon universe and sliceofotaku, yes they are youtubers but nevertheless good examples.Still, due to it being really progressive its an SJW nest and it breeds the most toxic kinds of those, just look at what happened with some SU artist on tumblr because their art wasnt “progressive” enough or because somehow they were deemed bigots for not following an specific agenda.
I love stevem universe, and i like gay characters, but well written ones.
I like pearl but not because she is gay/lesbian
I like garnet but not because she is a gay couple and a black woman
I like steven but not because he is “a soy boy”
I like all those characters because they are amazing on their own and i like the show because it has an amazing universe and is gorgeously well written.
If the only good thing about a character is their gayness then its a pretty boring character because you put the gay out and they are nothing.
If you only like SU because it has gay characters and progressive themes then you dont like the show at all, you like the parts of it that fall into your agenda.
Being gay does not make you special, you are a person just like anybody else with a different sexual orientation, point.
I miss the times when LGBTs fought to be seem as equal, not as something special
Steven Universe its about a boy and his ummm... alien sisters/parents trying to live peacefully and fight against other aliens for the sake of their loved ones while facing their own internal issues, not about gay romance and genders, these things just happen to be there but its not what it is all about

Evan Vondra (aka Ang) and I headed to the beach and did a much needed photo shoot of my Journey cosplay. We wanted mist but, it had already begun to burn off before we got into it. No matter, alas, I was running around like a proper Nomad
This cosplay took me roughly three months to make, including a one month of eight hour days of sewing. It is made from wool felt and weighs around 20 pounds. Thanks to all the cosplayers who made posts about how they put together their gear! I was able to snag some templates from: http://turnonred.tumblr.com/post/22304756914/okay-that-took-forever-im-sorry-heres-the.
Thank you thatgamecompany for making such a game.
