         ❝  shh …  you’re  not  supposed  to  be  moving ,  ❞   though  her  voice  is  sweet ,  there’s  a  certain  firmness  in  the  sleuth’s  words ,   the  kind  reserved  for  very  specific  situations   —   rare  ones ,   just  like  this .   is  it  the  guilt  eating  up  at  her ,  the  knowledge  that  she  wasn’t  there  to  protect  him ?   maybe .   danger  -  prone  daphne ,  damsel  in  distress  turned  blackbelt ,   yet  she  couldn’t  even  keep  her  own  friends  safe .  it  should  have  been  her  ,   not  fred .   never  fred .

         a  hand  moves  to  his  chest  as  if  telling  him  to  lie  down  again ,   ❝  not  too  bad ,  no .   velma  called  the  local  hospital  —  they  sent  a  doctor  over ,   he  took  care  of  the  wound …  apparently  you’re  a  tough  nut  to  crack .  ❞  concern  laces  her  words ,   but  she  can’t  keep  from  smiling  a  bit  now  that  he’s  awake .   after  a  deep  breath ,  the  redhead  proceeds  with  her  little  report .  ❝  rest  for  the  next  forty  -  eight  hours ,  call  him  if  it  something  feels  wrong .  shaggy ,  velma  &  scooby  are  out  buying  food  and  what  the  doctor  prescribed …  don’t  worry ,  they  didn’t  take  the  van .  ❞   a  giggle .  they  all  knew  just  how  much  the  mystery�� machine  meant  to  fred .  ❝  how’re  you  feeling ,  freddy ?  ❞

                    no  one  said  solving  mysteries   didn’t  come  with  hazards.   scratches ,  falls  ,  cuts   and   bruises  . .  shaggy  and  scooby  had  their   fair  share  of  trauma  and  scares.   they  all  did  but   together  ?   they  held  each  other  up  ,   a   small  support  group  . .   friends  ,  family   and  a   love  for  mystery.   they  could  have  done  something  like  go  to  a  movie  and  hang  out  but  the  time  spent  on  road  trips  and  solving  mysteries  ?   it’s  a  bond  that’s  been  forged  deep  within   their  veins.     

                a   sweet  chuckle    ‘     guess   playing  football   helped   but  a  helmet  would  have  been  nice,     ’   laying  back   down ,  he’s  aware  of  the  bandage  now.  a  small  glimpse ,  reflection  in  her  eyes.   his  own  hand  falls  on  top  of  hers  as   she  fills  in  the  holes.    a  little  relief ,   mystery  was  fine  . . .  he   would  have  leaped  out  of  bed  if  he  knew  shaggy  was  driving  mystery.   the  last  time  he  did  . .  fred  nearly  fainted  at   the  mess  inside  and  the  small  scratch.    ‘     i’m   okay  . . .   i  think   the  room  stopped  spinning  right  now . .  kind  of  hungry.   so  , i  hope  shaggy  or  scoob  don’t  eat  my  share,     ’   free   hand  reaches  up,   touching  her  hair     ‘      how  about  you  daph?   are   you  okay  ?      ’   if  getting  hit  in  the head  meant,  the  rest  of  them  were  okay  ---   that  was  okay  with  him.  he’s  sure ,  he’d  be  in  their  shoes ,  upset.
