The worst part about having original ocs that started as fandom ones is that you get so split between working on your story and doing fanwork. Like yes I can use them in both things, no one is stopping me but I would hate to delete the fan stuff if the original idea takes off aaahgh

honestly i never thought the phrase “i want that twink obliterated” was like a sexual thing. like when i read the phrase i imagine “a meteor like the one that killed the dinosaurs is summoned from the heavens and hits the twink in question” type situation

wonder how many people are plural and just straight up are in denial or ignore the signs longer because they don't feel like they qualify.
this was honestly me, I was suspecting there were other friends in my head with the way I suffer from depersonalization, but I pushed that denial further cuz I felt like a faker. i accept myself now despite having some shortcomings but my heart goes out to systems that are too scared or prefer to be secretive.

Having ADHD is so fun because sometimes youre looking for something that you use regularly and definitely put away in a smart and reasonable place and you have absolutely 0 hope of remembering where and finding it. And then other times ur like "hmm I need a some kind of small pointed object. I feel like i remember seeing a paperclip under the left couch cushion a month ago, i wonder if its still there" and it is

"my trauma made me mean/cruel/violent, it's not my fault." no the hell it did not: you chose that. cruelty and violence are responses, which make them choices. trauma does not absolve you from the decisions you make.
trauma does not make you cruel or violent- those are actions and behaviors the individual chooses in response to something. trauma can make you bitter and hateful, but it does not FORCE you to be cruel to others. your trauma is not separate from you, it is in fact a part of YOU that needs to be worked on. it is not a separate entity holding you at fucking gunpoint forcing you to hurt other people just because you were hurt. you are always responsible for how you respond to your trauma. always. no matter what. does not matter how bad you've been hurt or what was done to you. you're not special, you do not get a pass to hurt other people.
stop using the victim card to justify hurting other people and repeating the abusive actions done to you. as a trauma survivor who has PTSD and DID, being traumatized has and will never justify me hurting someone else, and it will never justify you hurting someone else, either, especially if it's on purpose or knowingly. it doesn't matter if you were hurt, you don't get to hurt other people. that's not how this shit works. you're not walking trauma, you're a person with trauma. you're a person first, traumatized second. constantly reducing yourself to your trauma is why you feel so powerless, hateful, and like you aren't even a person at all. you also have to knuckle up and learn how to grow past it in order to avoid hurting others and repeating the cycle of abuse.
doesn't matter the type or severity of the abuse: stop justifying cruelty.
take responsibility.

Every time I get groceries I’m always appalled at how little you can get for like, $20. I was making banana pudding so I needed vanilla wafers but the brand name nilla wafers cost $4 a box. The minimum wage in my state is $7.25/hr. My friend put it really well when he said “imagine you work for an hour and someone hands you two boxes of nilla wafers and said ‘actually this is a bit more than what I owe you’”

He realized his dogs have an unusual skill. Now he uses them to help save turtles.
By Cathy Free
John Rucker was a high school English teacher in North Carolina when he stumbled upon something interesting: Whenever he took his two dogs hiking, they would run into the tall grass and bring him back box turtles. Like a gift, his Boykin spaniels would gently lay them at his feet, unharmed.
He mentioned it to a few people, and soon, biology teachers from the University of North Carolina started reaching out to him and asking whether he would take their students out so they could put transmitters on the turtles to study them.
Several years later, the outings were so successful, Rucker was fielding calls from wildlife veterinarians and zoologists who were studying turtle populations.
“Because turtles aren’t easily detected in the wild by the human eye, I could see that I was on to something,” said Rucker, now 73.
Now, two decades later, Rucker’s spaniels are a highly in-demand, specialized team trained to sniff out box turtles by following their urine trails.
The dogs — Yogi, Ruger, Jenny Wren, Lazarus, Scamp, Skeeter and Rooster — travel across the country with Rucker helping to track turtle populations and identify threats and diseases.

Was tempted to tell off a terf for directing the usual “transmascs are damaged/confused/traitorous/brainwashed women” narrative at me today but on second thought I think I’d actually like to broadcast this one to a wider audience

i feel like so many people misunderstand redemption arcs. they’re not about forgiving past actions. they’re not about softening previous behavior. redemption arcs are about realizing past behavior was heinous and resolving to be better, do better. that’s why so many redemption arcs fall apart upon close scrutiny.

reminder that visibly religious people belong at pride. that person wearing a hijab is not a threat to you. that person wearing tzitzit and a kippah is not a threat to you. someone simply wearing an item that is culturally or religiously important to them is not a threat to you. however, your aggression upon seeing a religious person at pride is a threat to them.

Duolingo Sucks, Now What?: A Guide
Now that the quality of Duolingo has fallen (even more) due to AI and people are more willing to make the jump here are just some alternative apps and what languages they have:
"I just want an identical experience to DL"
Busuu (Languages: Spanish, Japanese, French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Korean)
"I want a good audio-based app"
Language Transfer (Languages: French, Swahili, Italian, Greek, German, Turkish, Arabic, Spanish, English for Spanish Speakers)
"I want a good audio-based app and money's no object"
Pimsleur (Literally so many languages)
Glossika (Also a lot of languages, but minority languages are free)
*anecdote: I borrowed my brother's Japanese Pimsleur CD as a kid and I still remember how to say the weather is nice over a decade later. You can find the CDs at libraries and "other" places I'm sure.
"I have a pretty neat library card"
Mango (Languages: So many and the endangered/Indigenous courses are free even if you don't have a library that has a partnership with Mango)
Transparent Language: (Languages: THE MOST! Also the one that has the widest variety of African languages! Perhaps the most diverse in ESL and learning a foreign language not in English)
"I want SRS flashcards and have an android"
AnkiDroid: (Theoretically all languages, pre-made decks can be found easily)
"I want SRS flashcards and I have an iphone"
AnkiApp: It's almost as good as AnkiDroid and free compared to the official Anki app for iphone
"I don't mind ads and just want to learn Korean"
lingory
"I want an app made for Mandarin that's BETTER than DL and has multiple languages to learn Mandarin in"
ChineseSkill (You can use their older version of the course for free)
"I don't like any of these apps you mentioned already, give me one more"
Bunpo: (Languages: Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Korean, and Mandarin)
