The wonderful Glass Octopus. Living at depths of around 3000 ft and only being about a foot long, these strange little creatures are rarely seen by scientists.

Cave fish time!!
Cryptotora thamicola or the waterfall climbing cave fish are extremely rare, found in only eight caves on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Like most cave fish they are blind and pigmentless but what makes them special is there ability to cling to walls and climb up flowing water.

can you do the festive snailfish (Liparus marmoratus)?
Today on CHUNK, FUNK, GUNK! We rate
the FESTIVE SNAILFISH:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5/10 Chunk
6/10 Funk
10/10 Gunk
Yet another fish that I hadn’t seen before. Initially I was surprised by their resemblance to the Sea Robin (another silly fishy lad), but after some research I’ve found that the two are extremely different! These goofy little guys are mostly gelatin with soft little bones, that’s pretty chunky. Their bodies are apparently made up of a majority gelatinous substance (that is how they got their name) and secrete a lot of slime and mucous, extreme gunk. Its funk would be higher if it weren’t for how my brain instantly thought it was another fish, which significantly impacted its uniqueness rating. Overall, very good fish. I would like to smooch it on its head if it wouldn’t poison me :)

I love ur blog and all things fishy!!
I was wondering if ur also a chimera fan- theyre my absolute favorite :D
Fun question! I'm not very big on chimaeras when compared to other fish (sorry, cartilaginous fish fans), perhaps because I discovered chimaeras rather recently, so I am only getting to know them at the current time! They have a lot of features for one to be excited about, I can see. I enjoy their shapes:

Daily fish fact #433
Snailfish!
Tumblr media
This fish family has incredible diversity in the depths that its species can live in, from intertidal zone shallows to over eight kilometers deep (like our snailfish friend who was caught on camera a few days ago). They always prefer cold water though, and some even have antifreeze proteins in their blood!
