For Professor Severus Snape, Valentine's Day is an opportunity to be especially vicious.
He will teach his students the unethical nature of love potions. How to recognise the effects of the potion and counter them.
Professor Snape will demolish every love letter he gets his hands on. And he would argue that he is doing them a favour - many of the letters are horrifically embarrassing.
He has really come to love Valentine's Day.

After being reminded of the fact that in HP canon wizards were forced to hide themselves and their culture and strength away from muggles, I find the Death Eater cause a lot more…understandable
There is a huge difference between methods, goals, and motivation, and Voldemort had no one’s interest in mind except his own, but I’m saying I can see why people would be convinced to see it as a good thing beyond reasons of sadism or personal desire for power
This makes me uneasy

Honestly, I don't get it either but it is something I have observed time and time again. People constantly refuse to reevaluate initial judgements. You are right in that it takes energy - and tbf, if they don't want to invest that in a fictional character, that's entirely reasonable. No one has infinite energy.
It is the people who do continue to invest energy but choose to invest it in hate (and refuse to keep it in approriate spaces) instead of understanding that truly infuriate me. And ultimately, sadden or scare me.
Snape Hate is classist - and the malfoys demonstrate it
Before we knew of Snape’s true background, fanfics seemed to treat him as essentially a Lucius Malfoy - cruel, aristocratic, and often a pureblood.  Basically a 🌶 spicy 🌶 daddy 🌶 really.  But since the books revealed his working-class background, Snape in fandom has become far more controversial even than Lucius Malfoy, or Voldemort/Tom Riddle (whose canon actions are far worse).  Snape is unique in that some people who hate him are angry that other people like him, which suggests a perception of moral reprehensiveness: that it is wrong to like him, to explore his character, or that there is something wrong with a fan who does so.
It’s also worth noting that upper class status is often used in hp fan content to rehabilitate the Malfoys.  Its makes them attractive.  A lot of fanfics highlight the virtuousness of a Malfoy forsaking their high social status or material wealth for love, or using these things for ‘good’. (No shade, ship and let ship xx)
It suggests that Snape’s class background (rather than the severity of his actions) implicitly makes him irredeemable to some.  People who seek out Snape content to negatively engage with it may attribute their hate to his actions, but it’s notable that other characters who have done worse don’t receive the same ire.   it’s fascinating tbh

Malfoys & Riddle get pretty-privilege and snake-face has monster-fucking vibes, so they are all allowed.
The guy "with greasy black hair, a hooked nose, and sallow skin"? The guy who is female/queer, foreigner, Jew (aka "villain" as you said) coded? Oh no, no, no. They can't excuse liking that. (It doesn't help that that very first encounter at the welcome feast had Harry's scar hurting when Snape looks into Harry's eyes, giving the very first impression of Snape a kinda KickTheDog(kid) vibe. A lot of readers just cannot seem to get past that first impression, not that it gets countered for a very long time.)

You know honestly I think the reason Dumbledore was so fucking weird about Snape is that–on top of symbolizing a whole layered mess of his personal hopes and failures, mostly failures–he reminded him of himself.
Specifically the version of himself he loathed the most.
He may also have been jealous. Of how Lily and Voldemort were two separate people.

I am pretty sure she just takes it for granted. Note that Karkaroff isn't just caught and has to make a deal, but that it is "a foreigner" who snitches, whose loyalty fails, who becomes a dirty traitor just to save his own selfish self.
It is an interesting parallel to Lucius, I agree. But also, contrast and compare to Snape, whose betrayal of Voldemort was to protect someone else, the cast-as-innocent Lily and the truely innocent infant/toddler Harry. And then later on, to protect everyone he can. Rich brit vs. poor brit vs. foreigner. One survives, one dies selflessly, the third hunted down and murdered by the DE for his betrayal.
After being reminded of the fact that in HP canon wizards were forced to hide themselves and their culture and strength away from muggles, I find the Death Eater cause a lot more…understandable

Reasons why I'm convinced Severus Snape is not a tall man:
He has never been mentioned to be so in canon and if fucking ron weasley and dumbledore can be described as tall im pretty sure snape could've been grouped with them too if he was — which he is not.
The fact he is mentioned to be intimidating without saying anything about his height is already a big "CMON NOW?" in the face. when you are tall and intimidate children, you are towering over them, not looming and making yourself seem larger than what you possible are.
I'm sure I've said this before and someone had an actual good reason as to why this is not something i should count? and I'm sorry but I seriously can't see how Severus Snape couldn't have had his height stunted. He was neglected and abused as a child and his parents were poor, it doesn't take a genius to get to the conclusion he's starved himself more days than he has eaten before Hogwarts. and then with oh dear good ol' hogwarts he is bullied and i dont know about you but as a poor, half-blood, bullied slytherin in the 70s i wouldnt push my luck that much and simply would avoid the great hall most times. also the man looks like breathes coffee to cope with his misery — so theres that.
Sirius Black is considerably taller than him. I dont believe the man is short but he is fucking mentioned to be tall quite some times so im expecting him to be built like a fucking tree or something. its kinda like out there that the marauders (excluding peter) were tall as shit and they are bullies (sorry marauders stans but thats like canon? if u have complains you know you can address them to you-know-who) so they are used to use their height to intimidate. oh, how do i know that? why im so sure? dont get your knickers in a twist let's just go to OotP shall we?
"He [Sirius Black] was rather taller than Snape who, Harry noticed, balled his fist in the pocket of his cloak over what Harry was sure was the handle of his wand."
this paragraph is really interesting and it tells us a lot of things. sirius is used to using his height as an advantage to intimidate or to physically fight. severus, however, finds solace in his wand and yes we know he is deathly skilled with that damned stick but it shows while sirius is relaying on his physique, severus is ready to attack or defend himself by using magical means, he does not believe himself fit to be sirius' rival physically wise. the fact sirius is mentioned to be quite taller than severus unnerved me a lot as a child and only a few years ago did my brilliant brain realise why. sirius black was still on the other side of the fucking room when the author felt the need to mention his large height gap between him and severus, the latter was turning to leave. unless it had been one hell of a height gap, it wouldn't have been mentioned, its weird as fuck because even with the distance sirius is still tall enough to point it out. now, I'm not saying that of you stand on opposing sides of a room your height difference with someone becomes unnoticeable, but it surely is not as obvious as when you are in someone's fucking face (which sirius is later but thats hardly relevant now)
if youve been bullied chances are you know how i felt with this particular scene, it makes you feel queasy even before you understand why.
and yeah im no doctor so really what would i know about fucking stunting height its not like im particularly short anyways, the most reliable reason you could find here is the fact whereas some character's height are described as tall or short throughout the series, snape's is never exactly mentioned and it could've simply been him being a short as shit character but as its important to present the audience with his unlikeable, imposing and intimidating manner, nobody saw fit to call a character that the main character wasnt fond of — short.

OMG yes! It has long been recognised how she drops in bits and pieces of myth/folklore all over for flavour without expanding or understanding; but that she did the same damned thing with politics & the inner workings of elites and their schools? Yep. That is it exactly. And often, in all cases, she went for superficial whimsy or humour over even the slightest consistency.
Slytherin, purebloods, Hogwarts, the Ministry, and DE do not make sense. They're jigsaw puzzle pieces that do not fit together. The rest of the world building, same. iconsistency. It undoubtedly contributes to why fanwork has so much room to create new puzzles from those canon pieces but... Ugh.
Are wizards the elite who rule from a bizzare world of their own, so far removed from the masses they only have funhouse mirror impressions of ordinary people? Or are they a minority, Other and vulnerable, forced to hide themselves away? Considering the framing of Harry's abuse for being a "freak" up against the casual contact with the muggle PM, it feels like the first is clothed in the second. Victim-complex indeed.
... which then comes around and undermines the DE's reasons for existence. They are an IRA analog... made up of the elite of the elite? The ministry is run by the same social status people as the DE consists of. Maybe giant family squabble that got out of hand is the best view of matters. Even as a cult, it doesn't work quite right because cults normally gather in a good percentage of their members from the vulnerable (like Snape) who have been failed by society, but the DE are overwhelmingly shown as part of the privileged. Which yeah, I can think of a real world comparison to ponder: Scientology.
After being reminded of the fact that in HP canon wizards were forced to hide themselves and their culture and strength away from muggles, I find the Death Eater cause a lot more…understandable

Headcanons/opinions on Barty Crouch jr?
On Barty? I have a few, actually.
He's gay. Not only is he gay, he's also gay for Voldemort. If you read his last lines of dialogue in GoF he almost sounds like Bellatrix at times.
LV knew, obviously. I don't know what he might have personally thought of it, but he definitely allowed it as it fuelled Barty's rage and fanatical obsession.
He is the walking, talking, breathing definition of daddy issues.
He himself did not know what he wanted out of his relationship with Voldemort: it was something in between approval from an absentee father and sexual gratification.
Might have had some kind of flirt with either Regulus or Rabastan (who was older than him though), but I wouldn't go as far as to call it a relationship.
He was unhinged and so self-destructive that he would throw himself in front of danger. He made for a brilliant soldier, a war machine, but it was also horribly reckless. Even the Lestranges were baffled.
Speaking of. He didn't know whether he loved or hated Bellatrix. He wanted to be her in more ways than one: more adult, more powerful, not scared of anything, the Dark Lord's favourite...
When I think about him, something that Helena Bonham Carter said about Bella in an interview comes to mind: "I think she's a bully, and like all bullies, she's secretly scared of everything". I don't think this quote fits Bella's character very much (at all), but it's perfect for Barty.
Hence, his reaction during the trial.
He was a sadist and became elated in situations like the Longbottoms' but all his arrogance melted away when he was alone.
Bellatrix was his mentor. He joined the Death Eaters around the same time that Regulus and Snape did. Therefore, they probably trained all together. I like the idea of Vold never pairing Bella with Reg for fear that she wouldn't go too hard on her little cousin, and instead assigning Barty to Bella.
They are the definition of frenemies: they bicker constantly, but have each other's back in a spectacular way during a mission. The only one who comes even close, as Bella's partner for assignments, is Rodolphus.
Both look down upon many of their fellow DEs (and aren't liked back) and are some of the only people that can actually stand the other.
Attention whores, the both of them.
Rodolphus actually thought that Barty had a thing for Bellatrix, seeing how close they had become in such a short amount of time.
If Barty HAD to make an exception, it would probably be Bella, but when Rodolphus confronted him he basically said "you do know I'm with your brother, right" (Rodolphus did not, in fact, know).
He was actually incredibly good at imitating voices and he was involved in Polyjuice potion-related incidents before Mad-Eye (note to self: possible fanfic idea).
Low self-esteem and yet extremely vain.

Being a casual smoker where nobody but my inner circle knows about this is such a casual and fun double life.
Imagine now how comforting might this feel for Severus, smoking a cigarette in peace after he's back from a Death Eater meeting, enjoying the only harmless personna he can have. Nobody knows about this little habit of his.
Minerva suspects it but she leaves him in peace, Albus doesn't really care, Voldemort tempts him with other more dangerous vices. So this is only for him, for his tormented soul to enjoy one cigarette from time to time and dream about the life he'd have if he stayed out of it all.
Maybe it would have all been better if he listened to that blonde older boy and ran away somewhere far after graduating Hogwarts. But now it's two late and him and that older boy are now stuck in an endless spiral towards hell.

You know what I’d like to see? I’d like to see the year where Snape was headmaster from his perspective because he promised Dumbledore he’d keep the students safe to the best of his ability. I want to see Snape untying first years to save them from the cruciatus and then oblivating them so they don’t remember it. I want to see Snape stunning the Carrows from behind when they were shooting curses at Dumbledore’s army. I want to see him carrying students who had been tortured into unconsciousness to madam pomfrey and, using his knowledge of the dart arts, the two of them working to heal the student. I want to see Snape being a good man, like it’s implied that he was. I feel like he was robbed of that redemption arc.
