I am in pain.
The 501st were silent.
An unearving, hollow kind of silent.
It had been one month since Commander Tano's trial. And they'd finally returned to Coruscant.
They hadnt stayed on the ship as some vod had predicted. Neither were they filling the corners of 79s drinking their feelings away.
They'd all calmly filed into the baracks as the gunships landed. But once those doors had closed behind them. It was only silence.
They'd slept hard. Hard enough to look run over when theyd emerged the next morning. They filtered through the cori-mess hall. Ate their breakfast and donned their armor.
Then they left out into the streets. Organized units slread out across the planet marching with purpose.
The population of Coruscant was enough to swallow the entire legion. The mass of blue armror trickling through the veins of the planet like deoxagenated blood cells.
Thats sort of what they looked like. Like the air had been let out of them.
They swept across the levels. Filling train cars and airlifts. Walking down streets and back alleys. Sweeping greasy diners and cluttered shops.
But they didn't find what they were looking for.
If they'd asked, come to Fox or any of the men that patrolled this planet, theyd've told them that Ahsoka was gone. Left the same day as her trial.
She'd fled the planet. And hadn't been seen since.
Fox let them search. For three days he let them tread across the planet. Let their wandering feet lead them through their greif. Let them go through the motions.
Before he had to pull Rex aside.
He had to break it to him. Tell him that his vod'ika wasn't coming back.
Rex stood stock still, his bucket under one arm. His face was... wrong. It didn't look like Rex. He could have been any brother under that expression of greif. Whatever made Rex's face his own had drained out with the air, the greif.
He didnt acknowledge Fox's words. Didnt argue. Didnt protest. He just stood there. Looking for all the galaxy like there was nothing left in him.
Cody's hand landed on one scraped blue paldron. "We'll help you look Kih'vod."
It took a minute before he managed to turn enough lights on upstairs to turn and look at Cody. Even then all he offered was a nod. Before he turned back to his troops.
Troops in gold armor joined the search. Then gray. And reluctantly red too. All on their off hours. Their own time.
The citizens were giving them a wide berth. Staying in doors and closing their shops as the troopers decended on the planet.
Untik the streets were half empty except for men in white armor.
They never found anything. Not even a trace of her. But the searching was important. The collective of them. Walking miles for her. For each other. For their brothers.
Seraching for something much bigger than just the little commander.
Maybe peace or reassurance or even just releif. Or maybe seraching because its all they had left to do. All they could do when the war rose up in their throats this way.

My grandmother randomly texted me this morning about old hand-drawn animation and I realized that I haven't talked to her in months, so I sent her a bunch of silly Star Wars fanart because it's about the only thing I draw.
She's a little confused, but she got the spirit.

If it's any consolation, (and I know it probably isn't,) the pins I've seen credit you as the artist. My little sister has neither Tumblr nor Ao3, but she knows your name from Pinterest and gets very excited whenever I tell her a new masterpiece by stealingpotatoes just dropped. But you are right, reposting is not at all cool. Steal potatoes, not art.
Your Star Wars art makes me smile so much, especially the Ghost crew and Ahsoka. I don't know what else to say; I'm very new to Tumblr and still figuring out the whole "interacting with strangers outside of Ao3" thing, but I've been seeing and loving your work since I first found it floating around on Pinterest as a baby Star Wars nerd trying to satisfy my new hyperfixiation. I know you probably didn't intend it to turn up there, but...thank you. Stuff like your little comics helped me find the fan fic community. So...thanks. ^_^

So apparently making eye contact during conversations so that the other person will feel uncomfortable and leave you alone doesn't work if you're the only one who's uncomfortable with eye contact.

Okay, so I had to mull this one over for a while because I have WAY TOO MANY WIPs. But I finally picked an excerpt from a story I'm writing called "I'll come around...someday." It's a companion short story to my long-term WIP, Terracotta Warriors, in which one of my OCs, a clone named Captain Crow has just been saved from imprisonment in a research facility by the underground network that we see in tbb, and is hiding in a safe house run by a farmer while waiting for the next leg of the network to pick him up. Basically, Crow learns the truth about why he was imprisoned and why he was ordered to kill his Jedi, family drama ensues.
The next morning, Crow wakes to the sound of a ship landing outside. He launches out of his borrowed bed—that of Anikla’s late cousin, she told him—and peers out the filthy window into the grey morning light. A small cargo freighter is parked on the taiga. Not Imperial. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous.
A lone figure disembarks from the ship, striding towards the Hall against the bitter wind. Crow flies to the main room. Anikla is already standing in the open front doorway, glaring at the approaching figure with annoyance.
“I told you to park in the ravine, scughole!” she shouts. “What if someone sees you?”
The stranger pushes back his hood to reveal a clone’s face, windburnt and grinning stupidly. “Aw, Niki,” he whines in a voice that is so much like Crow’s, and yet so different, “you’d really make me walk through all this cold? After the rotation I’ve had? Don’t worry about it. Nobody’s tracing The Catatumbo back to the network. She’s all mine.”
“Yeah, I can tell.” Anikla looks disgustedly at the ship, which is, admittedly, more than a little banged up. “You’ve got real taste, Lash. Why’d you have to be the one picking up the package? I bet Gregor wouldn’t have parked in my front yard.”
“Gregor’s not allowed to pilot.” He taps the side of his head indicatively. “One too many knocks on the noggin.” His joking expression fades, and he suddenly looks uncomfortable. “But I’ll admit, I volunteered to do this one for personal reasons. Is—is he around?”
Anikla nods. “He might still be asleep—oh!” She nearly jumps out of her skin when she turns around to find Crow standing in the room behind her. “Good morning,” she says, the tips of her ears turning red. “I didn’t know you were up.”
She beckons the other clone inside. “I know I said you probably wouldn’t get picked up for a few more days, but it appears that this moron’s gonna take you today.”
But Crow isn’t listening to her. He stares at the newcomer…who might not be so new. There’s that playful glint in his eyes, the inflection of his voice, a few familiar scars that Crow shouldn’t be able to see in the grey morning light that illuminates the room yet knows he would recognize blindfolded.
What did Anikla call him?
It can’t possibly be, but Crow never forgets a little brother.
Especially not one he has mourned.
“Backlash?” The name comes out like a squawk.
The younger clone sets his mouth in a grim line. “Hello, Captain.”
I don't know when I'll get around to finishing this one, but I really, really want to. Crow and Backlash are gradually becoming two of my favorite OCs. Thanks for the tag! I'm going to pass the torch to @icwasher, @aslansjedi, and @archivewriter1ont. (Though maybe that last one has already been tagged. I'm not sure, but I'd hate to leave them out of this fun game.)

Preach.
people saying that the live action how to train your dragon is good actually because it's basically just a shot for shot remake of the original... then why the fuck would I watch it when I can just watch the (more visually stunning, not a blatant cash grab) original

Ooh! Thanks for the ask, Kyber! This should be fun.
1. Thick Skulls
"Are you absolutely certain that this is what you want?"
2. It'll rain for forty days and nights and nothing you do can slow the rising tides
The sun shone, but still he could hear thunder.
3. I thought I'd learned it all, but boom, the plot thickens
"You can't hide back here forever."
4. It would feel like rebirth, to see yourself so glowing
"Did you know that humans are slightly bioluminescent?"
5. Terracotta Warriors (WIP, recent chapter first line)
Serria had these little birds.
6. Someday I'll make it out of here, even if it takes all night or a hundred years
I wrote a letter when no one was looking.
7. Chemical Switches
Hunter glanced at the chrono on the wall as his squad shuffled into the laboratory under the gaze of a dozen identical pairs of eyes and one glaring Kaminoan instructor.
8. Priority One
I am a Jedi—
9. Little Candle, Be a Light
She's sure she'll get used to this.
10. Actual, Chronological Children- Terracotta Warriors Edition
Ladders were overrated.
Note: all of these are posted on Ao3 under my pseud, Snips_fics, except 4 and 5. Those two are WIPs. (Though 4 is coming very soon!)
First Lines Game
Rules: In a new post, share the first lines of 10 of your latest fanfics (or all if you have less than 10!) and tag 10 people to do the same.
Thanks for the tag, @ladysongmaster! This is such a fun idea 👏🫶 (and your snippets are so enticing too!!)
1. Braids
It’s only when the spirits run out and the ghosts press in that Haymitch finds solace in the Hob.
2. Fragments So Small
Pain.
*not me writing Hunger Games fanfics for my sister 👀*
3. Most
“Tech?” The tremulous voice at his back admittedly startles him.
4. Trials
He gets to the barrack door and stops, wiping a nervous hand over his face.
5. The Same and Not
The sea doesn’t sleep.
6. The Defender (recent chapter first line)
“Cross wouldn’t want ya to do this,” Wrecker says, breath still hitched and wobbling from crying.
7. Of Scene Breaks and Plot Twists (recent chapter first line)
“This is ridiculous,” Hunter says. “Do something!”
8. Snow Day
“Crosshair’s on my team!” Omega announces, latching herself to Crosshair’s arm as if one of their brothers might try to bodily snatch him away.
9. Six Weeks (recent chapter first line)
In the Rebellion, Omega is a captain.
10. Can End Like This
“Here we are,” Echo says.

“Are you absolutely certain that this is what you want?” Tech studied the sketches as they walked, absentmindedly keeping pace with his brothers. “From what I have read, it’s wiser to start with something smaller and located somewhere less visible—and less painful.”
“Visibility is the point!” Hunter said. “Why go through the trouble to get something that’s always covered by our armor?”
“I see. All the same, your particular designs and placements of choice are…concerning.” He held up Hunter’s drawing in the hazy light of the polluted city they were traversing. “Inking almost fifty percent of your face in one session is incredibly ill-advised. Large-scale shading is lengthy and painful, especially on sensitive body parts like the face. Not to mention that its size would make removal difficult. This,” he tapped the sketch of a face covered entirely on one side with a black skull design, “is extreme.”
“We are extreme, Tech.”
(He couldn’t exactly refute that, not without being hypocritical. Regs had been giving him a wide berth since his final piloting evaluation the month before.)
Hunter held up his helmet, showing off the new paint that already mirrored his desired tattoo design. The squad had just settled on their color scheme, and he was more enthusiastic about it than anyone. “Just think how wizard a skull would look with this paint job.”
“Supposed ‘wizard’-ness aside, I feel the need to remind you that your enhanced senses will make the experience of getting tattooed especially painful. You’d do well to minimize that with something smaller.”
“Skull,” was his brother’s one-word rebuttal.
Tech couldn’t stifle a frustrated sigh. Of all the people he could have been tasked with dissuading, it had to be the two most willful clones ever created.
He held up the other sketch and addressed Crosshair. “While you wisely opted for a small, simple design, you picked perhaps the worst possible location. I have read that the skin around the eyes is one of the most sensitive areas for a tattoo. What’s more, any number of complications are possible: a blowout of ink, infection due to unsanitary conditions, or even puncturing your eye. We are unfamiliar with this tattooist, and if an accident were to happen, you would run the risk of a permanent eye injury.”
“A very sunny thought,” Crosshair said, looking almost bored.
Tech frowned at the sniper. “Given your specialty, I would expect you to take that into heavy consideration.”
“Yeah, yeah. I’ve weighed and measured it and all that. We’re doing this.”
“Understood.” Dissuading any of his batchmates was a lost cause once they’d set their course. They were almost to the tattoo parlor; practically past the point of no return for either Hunter or Crosshair. “I assume you’ve at least hydrated in preparation like I advised?”
Crosshair scoffed. “What do I look like to you?”
“Frankly? The human incarnation of a dried kelp strip.”
“And you’re the human incarnation of a wet blanket.”
Tech wanted to argue, but just then, they reached the tattoo parlor. If he hadn’t already been protesting to a brick wall, he was now.
The establishment seemed sanitary enough. Tech interrogated the owner while his brothers consulted one of the artists about their sketches, and was satisfied to learn that the inks were prepared with distilled water and the needles were properly cleaned after every use. At least Hunter and Crosshair weren’t likely to get infections from their tattoos.
“Have you heard enough, or do you need to run a background check on everyone in this shop?” Crosshair demanded after Tech had peppered the artists with questions about the possibility of an allergic reaction to the inks, which was thankfully unlikely. “We have to be back at base in a few hours.”
He supposed it wouldn’t do to rush the artists. For the second time in less than an hour, Tech gave a long suffering sigh and relented. “For the record, you will both regret this.”
Neither of them listened, of course.
Hunter blacked out halfway through.

Currently in a state of questioning if I'm only acting this way because of the story I just read, or if this is my actual personality.
This is not a new experience for me, unfortunately.

Okay, let's see...
Favorite color: Dark green. Everything dark green. I actually just dyed some old dresses and a thrifted tee to my favorite foresty hue this morning. :]
Listening: The Oh Hellos, specifically their four winds albums: Notos, Eurus, Boreas, and Zephyrus. Second favorite band, hands down.
Reading: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. It's the second book in the Six of Crows duology, and I'm loving it.
Craving: I just stuffed myself beyond sense with a peach cobbler my mom made, but you'd better believe I want more of it anyway.
Coffee or tea: depends. I like them both. Tea with honey and lemon juice is soothing. I'll drink fancy coffees, but I really like it black with just a splash of milk.
Sleeping: at the rate I'm going, it's a wonder I'm not dead yet.
Place to Visit: I went on a mission trip to Northern Ireland in March, and there's nothing I'd rather do than go back there. Well, with the exception of the transatlantic flight. I had sensory overload from being in a plane for so long.
Once again, still figuring out the tags, but let's ask... @kybercrystals94 and @aslansjedi
Here and Now Questions

A little excerpt from the latest chapter of Terracotta Warriors, my four-year-old tcw/early rebellion Era Star Wars WIP:
“You’re very perceptive. That’s a good skill, knowing when someone’s lying.”
Nya shook her head. “Some people are easier to read than others. My Nan—my grandmother—I could never tell with her. My teacher, sometimes. But I don’t understand you.” She continued to pull on her curls. “You’re a good liar, much better than him, but I can tell anyway.” She frowned. “You’re…different."
I haven't written another chapter in almost a month, but there you go.
Thanks for the mention! I'm new to this whole tagging game, but I'm going to pass the torch to my dear @kybercrystals94 ^_^
Thank you for the tag, @archivewriter1ont!
Rules: in a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or as many as you feel like).
My last line was from chapter four of Ochira, my most recent WIP.
All that was left was to present a plan to the King. I did not wish to accompany the Prince for this part, but before I could make an excuse about having some other duties to attend to he was grabbing my arm and pulling me along with him. “I require emotional support,” he whispered once we were in the hallway. I suppressed a sigh and followed him silently to the King’s office. When we entered, he was bent over a stack of papers. The Prince began to speak, but without looking the King held up a hand. The Prince fell silent, and I took the moment to survey the office.

Now this is a galaxy-brained take.
(And say, for the sake of argument, that he actually is? What kind of au would that be??)
Korkie's resemblance to Obi-Wan can be used for a lot of jokes involving Anakin or Ahsoka thinking that Korkie is a secret Obitine child, but sadly I have yet to see someone make a joke where Rex or Cody see the resemblance and come to the perfectly reasonable conclusion that Korkie is a secret Obi-Wan clone
