He had a perfect speech planned. Calm. Elegant. Smart. Then you walk in smiling like the sun and say, “I brought you some tea!” He forgets the entire script.

"I was going to... express something significant. But now I just feel..." You tilt your head, confused. He exhales, setting the cup down, and looks straight at you. "I think I like you. Emotionally, not... the way I usually mean that." You blink. "So... like a crush?" He chuckles softly. "Yes. That. Quite inconvenient. But true."

Kurapika – Overthinks it to death

He rehearses the confession in his head 500 times. Still messes it up.

He walks up to you, all serious. "Y/N, I need to talk to you about something important." You nod, curious. *"...You’re very kind. Almost too kind. Which is… dangerous. But also... beautiful. And I may have... possibly developed feelings for—" He groans mid-sentence. "This sounded so much better in my head." You just smile and gently grab his hand. "I like you too. Just say it messy next time—it suits you."

Illumi Zoldyck – Completely deadpan

He just… walks up to you and blurts it like a hit list.

"I believe I have romantic feelings for you." You stare. "Uh... what?" He repeats it, same tone. "Romantic. Feelings. For you." You blink, unsure if it's a joke. "...Should I be flattered or scared?" He tilts his head. "Both, ideally." You burst out laughing. Somehow, it works.

Hisoka Morow – Tries to be smooth, fails spectacularly

He thinks it'll be fun to confess with flair. So he makes a card appear in your hand that says:

"Let’s make this game more fun — go on a date with me ♡" You glance at him. "Is this serious or part of some weird flirt tactic again?" He smirks. "Would it matter if I said I’ve genuinely grown fond of your kindness? That you’re a temptation I actually respect?" You’re stunned. Then smile. "That might be the first sincere thing you’ve said to me." He fakes a swoon. "I’m ruined."

Leorio Paradinight – Loud and chaotic

He yells it. Not on purpose.

"I LIKE YOU, OKAY?! LIKE, A LOT! You’re nice and smart and your laugh makes me feel things and—" Everyone in the room stops. You stare at him, wide-eyed. He covers his face. "Damn it. That was NOT how I practiced this." You walk over, tap his shoulder, and whisper, "Wanna try that again over coffee?"

Killua Zoldyck – Emotion overload

He tries to play it cool, but his nerves are on fire.

"Hey, so, I uh... I like you. Not in a weird way. Just in a 'your smile makes me wanna explode' kind of way. Wait, that sounds weird—" You start laughing, and he turns redder than a tomato. "I knew this would suck!" You squeeze his hand and grin. "You’re adorable. I like you too." Killua.exe has stopped responding.

Gon Freecss – Honest sunshine

He just blurts it mid-conversation while eating fruit. No build-up.

"I like you, Y/N. I think about you a lot." You blink, surprised. "...What brought that on?" He shrugs, smiling brightly. "I just didn’t wanna keep it to myself anymore. Besides, you’re amazing." You giggle. "That’s the sweetest ambush I’ve ever gotten." He beams, mission accomplished.

Nobunaga Hazama – Tries to act cool, immediately panics

He leans against the wall all cool. "Yo, Y/N. You free Friday?" "'Cause I was thinkin’... maybe we could hang out. Just us."

You smile, a little suspicious. "Like a date?" He chokes. "A DATE?! I MEAN—I GUESS—I MEAN—YEAH!!" He facepalms. "...Forget it." You laugh and grab his sleeve. "No way. I'm saying yes. You’re kinda cute when you malfunction."

Feitan Portor – Mumbles it like a curse

He walks up behind you while you're reading. Doesn’t make eye contact. Doesn’t look at you at all.

"I like you." You blink, turn around. "What?" He clears his throat, louder but still not looking: "I said I like you. Romantically. Emotionally. …Please don’t make me say it again." You giggle, catching his sleeve. "That was more than enough. Want to go out sometime?" He nods once, face flaming behind his collar.

"How interesting…" he murmurs one night, when you offer him your jacket without hesitation. That’s when it hits. He’s not studying you out of intrigue. He’s drawn to you. In a way that might be his greatest weakness. And Chrollo Lucilfer does not like weaknesses. But he likes you more.

Kurapika – The Denial Phase

Kurapika doesn't realize it at first. He just feels... calmer when you’re around. Lighter. Less like he's drowning (in an undescribable emptiness). You treat him with such compassion—even when he snaps. And you never ask for anything back. That scares him.

"Why are you always so kind to me?" he asks one day. You smile, shrug. "Because you deserve kindness too, Kurapika." His heart skips. He looks away, pretending he's unaffected. That night, he stares at the stars and finally admits it to himself. "I… care for them. Damn it."

Illumi Zoldyck – The Logical Breakdown

Love isn’t useful. Feelings aren’t practical. He knows this. But every time you look at him like he’s not a monster, something cracks. You say things like “You’re not as emotionless as you think” and it stays with him.

He watches you help a crying child without hesitation and thinks, "Why does that make me feel something?" The realization hits like a scalpel—precise and deep: He wants to protect that kindness. Even if he doesn’t fully understand why.

Hisoka Morow – The Intrigued Chaos

He notices right away that he’s drawn to you. But he mistakes it for fascination at first. Your kindness is… fun. Soft. Refreshing. He teases you constantly, expecting you to flinch or run. You don’t. You smile.

"You’re not scared of me?" "No," you answer. "You’re not as bad as you pretend to be." He actually freezes. Laughs a little. "You’re either dangerously naive... or exactly what I didn’t know I needed." And just like that, Hisoka is intrigued in a way he hasn’t been in years—because he actually likes you.

Leorio Paradinight – The "Oh Crap" Moment

He realizes it mid-conversation. You’re rambling about something silly and smiling so wide, and he’s laughing and boom— His brain just goes: “Holy sh*t I like them.”

From then on, he’s flustered constantly around you. Trips over words. Offers you snacks. When you compliment his passion for helping people, he gets red as a tomato. He ends up ranting to Kurapika: "I think I’ve got it bad, man!"

Killua Zoldyck – The Silent Freak-Out

You treat him like he’s normal. Like he’s just a kid, not a killer. You worry when he gets hurt. You smile when he sulks. And suddenly, he starts getting nervous around you.

One day, you pat his head without thinking and he turns bright red. "Wh-what was that for?" "Because you’re a good person, Killua." He turns away, heart hammering, and whispers under his breath, "...Tch. Don’t make me like you more."

Gon Freecss – The Sunshine Realization

With Gon, it’s pure and honest. He just realizes one day—while you’re helping a lost kid at a market—that he wants to see you happy every day. That he wants to be around you forever.

He doesn’t hide it either. "Hey, Y/N, I think I like you!" You laugh, asking when he realized. He grins: "Probably when you gave me the last piece of your candy. That was true love."

Nobunaga Hazama – The “Wait… WHAT?” Phase

He’s rough, rude, and blunt. You’re soft and sweet and you ask if he’s eaten yet. Who does that?? At first he’s annoyed. Then confused. Then obsessed. You cheer for him during sparring and it messes him up completely.

He stares at the ceiling in his room that night. “Sh*t. I’m into them, aren’t I?” Suddenly, he’s extra protective of you. Doesn’t let Shalnark tease you. Glares at anyone who flirts. Yup. You’ve got him.

Feitan Portor – The Silent Spiral

Feitan doesn’t get your kindness. At first, he thinks it’s fake. But when he sees you comforting a stranger, alone, without needing attention, something stirs. You clean his wounds once—without flinching—and he just stares at you.

"You’ve officially been invited on a magical evening with me, Oikawa Tooru." You open it, and inside it says: Dinner this Saturday? I really like you. You look up and he’s biting his lip, a rare flicker of nervousness in his eyes. "Say yes and I’ll even let you pick the place!"

Iwaizumi Hajime – Blunt & Flustered

He waits until everyone leaves the gym and awkwardly rubs the back of his neck.

"Hey, uh… you doing anything Saturday?" You shake your head, curious. He sighs. "Wanna go out? Like—on a date? With me? I like you." He avoids eye contact, but when you say yes, he smiles in that shy, boyish way that makes your heart race.

He blurts it out mid-conversation with absolutely no warning.

He runs up to you after a game, still pumped with energy.

"Y/N! You make my heart race faster than a five-set match!" You laugh, and he grabs your hands. "Go on a date with me! I promise it’ll be the best day of your life—unless I trip over my shoelace. Then second best!"

Terushima Yuuji – Bold & Flirty

He leans against the lockers, giving you that grin.

"So, how about you stop pretending not to notice how cute I think you are and let me take you out?" You snort, but he’s dead serious underneath the swagger. "I mean it. You and me. Real date. I’ll even wear my least offensive shirt."

"HEY Y/N!! WANNA GO OUT WITH MEEEE?!" You blink, stunned, as the gym goes silent. He grins, cheeks pink, hair a little messy, chest puffed out like he just scored the biggest point of his life. "I mean—like a real date! Not like lunch with the team! A you-and-me thing!!" When you smile and say yes, he cheers so loud that Akaashi has to physically pull him back to earth. "I’M GOING ON A DAAAATE!"

Akaashi Keiji – Calm, Polite, & Heart-Meltingly Thoughtful

He takes his time. Watches you. Waits until you're alone after class or practice. His voice is soft, but serious.

"Y/N... I've been meaning to ask you something." He glances down, fingers lightly brushing the spine of the book he’s holding. "I enjoy being around you a lot. Would you like to go out with me? As in, a date." You nod, trying not to blush too hard. He smiles warmly, and adds: "Great. I already had a few ideas. I’ll message you later." Classic Akaashi—smooth without even trying.

"So… I heard you’ve got a thing for intelligent, devilishly handsome captains with amazing hair." You groan and try to walk past, but he gently grabs your wrist, softer than expected. "I like you too, you know. I just figured I’d wait until you cracked first. But since the cat’s out of the bag…" He leans in with that playful glint in his eyes, whispering: "Wanna make it official over ramen tonight?"

Oikawa Tooru – Aoba Johsai

You told Iwaizumi during a moment of weakness, begging him not to say anything. Of course, he didn’t… directly. But Oikawa’s not stupid. You noticed the sudden uptick in flirtation—more than usual. He started really turning on the charm. Then one day, after practice:

"You know, I’ve had a lot of fans, but there’s something different about hearing you like me." You blink. "What…?" He grins, stepping closer, confidence hiding just a hint of nerves. "I like you too. And now that we both know, how about you let me take you out? I’ll even tone it down for once—maybe."

Daichi Sawamura – Karasuno

The apartment was quiet. Just the steady hum of the AC and the gentle clink of a mug being set on the coffee table.

Kazutora sat curled on the corner of the couch, legs tucked under him, fingers nervously playing with the hem of his sleeve. He wasn’t good at this—being still, being open. Too much of his life had been spent bracing for impact.

You sat beside him without saying a word, setting down a cup of warm chamomile tea. His favorite, even though he never admitted it.

“…Thanks,” he mumbled, eyes trained on a spot on the wall.

He was always like this after nightmares. Or after something triggered him—loud sounds, the smell of metal, sharp flashes of memory. You never pried. You just waited.

Tonight, you reached for his hand. Slowly. Gently.

And when he didn’t pull away, you laced your fingers through his.

“You’re safe,” you whispered.

He swallowed hard, blinking fast. “I know.”

But his voice cracked, just slightly.

“You don’t have to talk,” you said. “But you can.”

He was quiet for a long while.

“…I dreamt about it again.” You didn’t ask what “it” was. He knew you knew. “I couldn’t stop it. No matter what I did, it just kept playing over and over. Like I was right back there. Like I was still… that broken kid.”

You squeezed his hand, grounding him. “You’re not.”

He turned to look at you then. Really looked. And you saw it—that flicker of something behind his tired eyes. Trust. Fear, too, but trust was louder tonight.

“I don’t know how to be better,” he admitted, voice soft and vulnerable. “I don’t even know who I am when I’m not angry… or ashamed.”

You shifted, curling toward him until your forehead gently pressed to his.

“You’re the guy who brings home stray cats because he 'just found them near the store.'" That got a small laugh. You smiled. “You’re the guy who folds my laundry even though he pretends not to know how.” Another smile, sad but real. “You’re the guy I love, Kazutora. The one who’s still healing. And you don’t have to do that alone.”

He let out a shaky breath, eyes shimmering. “I don’t deserve you.”

You kissed the corner of his mouth—soft, slow. “You deserve love, Kazutora. Even when you think you don’t. Especially then.”

His arms slid around you then, holding you tighter than he ever had. Like he was afraid you’d disappear if he blinked. Like he needed to believe the words you said.

“I’m trying,” he whispered into your shoulder.

“I know,” you whispered back. “That’s enough.”
