I thought more scars would fit him better, especially with his darker backstory. (Lore below!)

For those who want lore on him in my Fantasy AU: Monty's family was killed by a vicious gang of pirates who wanted full control over the island they were living on. Monty was a very young child and the only one left of his family.

After days of struggling to survive on his own, Monty sought help in the town. It was then that Carnie—who is part of the pirates who killed his family—took Monty in with the plan that he would grow up to become a loyal brute.

His only friend growing up was a young canine, but she eventually disappeared. He didn't know it was because Carnie threatened her father. Once she was out of the picture, Monty had no one else to influence him.

Carnie's plan worked. Monty grew up to be a violent and dangerous pirate, who did as he was told. That is, until his childhood friend returned to his life and helped him see that he could decide who he wanted to be. Eventually, Monty concluded that he wanted to choose a different path in life. With their help, Monty escaped and was taken in by Roxy and her father Foxglove.
