because no. I don't think Caitlyn is redeemed by the end of the show. What I do think is that it is the start of her redemption. She says upfront- "No amount of good deeds can undo our crimes."

She isn't just talking about Jinx. I think, in a way, she's also referring to herself.

What I also think, is that she was prepared to die in the battle.

She's shocked to see Maddie betray her, yes. But she's not scared. The look on her face is determination. If this is what has to happen, then so be it.

Her sacrificing her eye was also a conscious decision. it was either that or the potential for Ambessa to win

I also feel like she doesn't expect to be redeemed? Just her actions and words seem to me like she's sort of being like "This is the consequence and so I'll have to face it."

Anyways TLDR i don't think the show is trying to redeem her yet, but rather she's at the beginning of her 'redemption arc'

I want Jon and Melanie to be horrible best friends SO bad. They’d get along exquisitely terribly and it would be beautiful. Short and angry mlm/wlw hostility. They hate each other for every reason EXCEPT the fact that one is now dating the other’s ex. Melanie jibes that Jon never deserved Georgie and he agrees affably, which completely ruins the fun of it and gets Georgie to slap them both lightly on the arm. Jon laughs and Melanie does not, but her scowl is 56% worse at hiding her grin than usual. They get along like a house on fire in that there is a high chance of fire if they are both left alone in the same room, no, they don’t keep doing this on purpose, they swear. They would fight each other physically every other day except for the fact that Melanie’s a lady and Jon knows full well he’d get snapped in half. Also, they just did each other’s nails and it’d be a shame to chip them so soon. A toxic ex-friend of Melanie’s showed up once and Jon verbally eviscerated their haircare and how they evidently were endlessly chasing approval from their parents they would never get based on their clothing alone. Melanie almost jumped a man for Jon one time. They pick locks together and the only thing scarier than them in a screaming match is them with their heads bent close to each other and matching wicked grins adorning their faces.

thinking about the shadow and bone netflix series again and now im fucking pissed off

the addition of an entirely different book to the series, so that you had one main cast and then the other cast, made the show feel in credibly cluttered. they added in the crows to the series, and yet the crows felt constantly pushed aside by the show itself. none of the characters are memorable. they took out anything that made the characters memorable.

genya got the classic 'female character with horrific scars ends up dulled down in the visual media' treatment.

they added RANDOM RACISM that wasn't even really in the original books?

they took a FINAL BATTLE SEQUENCE that had been the CLIFFHANGER ENDING of one of the books and slapped it awkwardly in the middle of the second season.

zoya, a mixed race character tells alina, "you stink of the orphanage, half-breed" instead of just saying 'you stink like the orphanage'. great. make the white passing poc character be racist to another poc character.

the main character was not originally a poc character, i think they changed it because the actor who played her is chinese? but they didn't do anything with that fact except have ALL THE CHARACTERS BE HORRIBLY RACIST TOWARDS HER

oh also they completely erased inej's sexual assault trauma it's gone. non-existent. never even really mentioned. they also completely removed any mention of her gettt kidnapped by slave traders when that was a huge part of her story, and then ACT LIKE SHE NEVER HAD TRAUMA OF THE MENAGERIE TO BEGIN WITH like…ok.

then other nitpicky things like rusalye being tiny as fuck, nobody recognizing nikolai even though HE WASN'T DISGUISED. AT ALL, the darkling taking a back seat even though he was THE LITERAL MAIN VILLAIN, (iirc) genya's sa trauma not even really being brought up, the way the amplifiers were handled, so much character mischaracterization...

One of the complaints against Caitlyn is that she doesn’t apologize for anything she’s done and doesn’t try to make up for it.

Yet she LITERALLY allows Jinx, the known terrorist who has killed half the Piltover counsel and the poster child for the Zaunite revolution, to go free back into Zaun.

That’s why Jinx rallying the Zaunites to help in the upcoming war WORKS when Jayce’s please for Zaun to fight DOESN’T. Because Caitlyn letting Jinx go is such a HUGE GESTURE OF GOOD FAITH TOWARDS ZAUN.

But nah, she never apologizes right? Her actions don’t speak louder than her words, right? Her letting her hatred of Jinx go and letting Jinx go back to Zaun has NO GOOD WILL attached to it, right?
