I remember when Israel killed aid workers on the Freedom Flotilla in 2010 that tried to break the blockade with food and construction material for starving gazans. None of this is new I'd argue that Israel is the state that is notorious for often it kills aid workers.

Saying this as an Irish person since the new Hozier album just came out and there are lyrics in Irish; it’s Irish or Gaeilge (pronounced “gwhale-ga” or “gale-ga” depending on region), not Gaelic or Celtic or any other name people come up with.
It’s just a normal language that people speak in their everyday life. We learn it in school in the republic. People like myself are bilingual in Irish and English. It’s not a “fairy aesthetic cottage core leprechaun” language.
Please respect it. Our language is a touchy subject seen as how England tried to erase it by forcing English on us and severely punishing those who spoke Irish.
At the same time that does NOT mean it is a dead language. Our (in the republic) road and safety signs are in both Irish and English, same with legal documents. Our politicians speak it, and we are trying to preserve the language!
Anyways enjoy the album!

we should globally ban the introduction of more powerful computer hardware for 10-20 years, not as an AI safety thing (though we could frame it as that), but to force programmers to optimize their shit better

21 y/o journalist Hossam Shabat is often cited by numerous media outlets, social media accounts, and this blog. He has spent the last 150+ days documenting the genocide while also organizing relief efforts and food drives that have fed thousands of people in north Gaza. Today he is asking for help for his family, whose home was destroyed because of his journalism. He writes,
I have decided to launch a personal fundraiser to help my family. Initially, I decided to first help my people and community, and have been supporting them in North Gaza for months. However, this campaign is dedicated to helping my family, who lost everything due to my profession. The Israeli forces contacted me directly, threatening me, and then bombed the house, of my family and built this house with our blood and sweat. Now, my family, consisting of 13 members, finds themselves living in a tent. Thus, I am launching this campaign to seek assistance for myself and my family during these challenging times.

200,000 being the actual amount of dead as calculated by Ralph Nadar seems obvious especially since when the food and water blockade initially happened those were the numbers experts were predicting but to really think about it is just unfathomable. Almost quarter million most not because of bombs but because of disease and starvation. Entire bloodlines gone. I remember 2014 it was I think 50 something bloodlines erased in the bombing of gaza and it was horrifying but now whole families dying because they have no food

I think it's always important to be reminded that the worst video you have seen from Gaza is in fact a drop in an ocean of atrocities committed by Israel every single minute of every day. Think about it, for that video to reach you, the horrific moment had to happen with someone who has a camera to be around and for that person to have a functioning phone service to upload it and for the video to circulate enough in order to reach you. Always remember that what you're seeing is what is happening to a single person out of over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza trying to survive this genocide, each one of them with a heartbreaking story of their own that probably will never manage to reach your feed. Things are infinitely worse than what we can even fathom.

Regretfully, I had to leave all my books behind. I couldn’t bear to make the choice between my beloveds, so I left them all.   Give them back. Give us back our beds. Give us back our offices. And give us back our books.
Nabil S., from "It Was All Songs: A Letter From Gaza" translated from the Arabic by Sarah Aziza, published in Mizna on February 12th, 2024. You can read the entire essay here.

palestinians started it all, lol
“Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves … politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves… The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down, and in their view we want to take away from them their country. … Behind the terrorism [by the Arabs] is a movement, which though primitive is not devoid of idealism and self sacrifice.” — David Ben Gurion (la), founding father of the settler colonial state of Israel.
