Well well well, guess who is back.
I’m super sorry for the unexpected hiatus, that was not planned at all but I’m back so yay. I think what happened was I kept telling myself my next post HAD to be the Finland analysis and since so much happened in my personal and I couldn’t work on it, I just didn’t post. Spoilers, the next post won’t be the Finland analysis.
I mean, the rough draft is almost done but editing takes forever and I don’t have the time at the moment. So instead I’m going to do easier posts until I actually have the time to edit that rough draft and make the final version as good as possible because y’all deserve that. In the meantime, I have some asks that I’m excited to answer :D
Thank you to everyone who has stayed patient with this account <3

Holy crap it’s been a hot minute, I got back to back sicknesses and school started so a lot went on halt. However, I am pleased to announce that the Finland analysis is almost complete and should be posted in about 2-3 days give or take. I just need to do final edits and get it proofread.
The day before it comes out, I will make a post. I’m debating between doing a second poll for the Nordics after the Finland analysis is complete. Norway and Finland were really close so a part of me thinks that Norway should get the next analysis. However we can do another poll instead. I’ll figure it out.
Anyways, thank you for your patience. I appreciate it and I’m so terribly sorry for the long wait.

Anyways, Finland Character Analysis will be out soon, when I have a clear idea of the actual release date I’ll make a post. Thank y’all for being patient with me <3

could you elaborate more on how you see Finland and America (usa)?
Of course I can :D
Finland and America have a very interesting and unique dynamic. One that I absolutely adore and I'm very glad I can talk about it. I'm gonna dwelve more into headcanon as I will talk about how I personally see their dynamic but I will try and make it clear when I'm talking strictly canon and headcanon.

Finland was actually the first person we see to find America. Sweden was there as well but it was Finland who found America. At first, I thought this might be a Vinland reference but Vinland was in Canada. However, Hima actually revealed that this event is referring to the colony of New Sweden that was located where modern day Delaware is.
I’ll say it point blank, I’m of the belief that America is on some way related to Finland and even Sweden. (Sufin kid). This isn’t directly canon and it’s just a fun headcanon I like to do on the side but there is evidence! You don’t have to agree with me on this take, I don’t believe it’s a common one but it’s one that I absolutely love.

As stated earlier, Finland did find America first! Though America ran away from him, Finland just wished the kid safety and was worried he was alone. I personally find it very wholesome that this is how Finland reacts to finding America. While everyone was arguing over who would be America’s “big brother,” Finland is over here worrying about America’s safety.
Also, love how this is what starts Sweden’s quest to make him and Finland parents. This was the catalyst that made him realize that Finland wants kids and honestly I love that.

I just wanted to add another panel showcasing that Finland genuinely cares about America’s safety. He’s most concerned about the kids safety than the fact that he just got beat up.

One of my favorite panels about Finland and America. I love how it’s made obvious that yes, Finland and America do look a lot alike. What I also find interesting is France and England’s reaction to this. England completely lies and France says that likeliness is not important, it’s how much love you have. Finland has shown more love for America’s wellbeing than anyone else during this entire event.
However, we all know that England ended up raising America and the rest is history. I am also a sucker for FACE family, so I’m not saddened by this but I also do love the idea that America is a Sufin kid. Dw they’ll get revenge on England when they buy Sealand off of eBay.
Modern day, they do have an interesting dynamic. Finland likes to lean into beliefs that make America happy. The most prominent being the Santa thing. We all know that Finland and Santa are very connected in Hetalia but the idea that Santa is from Finland is an American belief. This is event pointed out in canon.

Now my favorite panel between America and Finland has to be the one from the Cats and Christmas event. Honestly, I think the panel speaks for itself.
Words cannot described how much I love this scene.

I have a lot of opinions on this relationship but I tried to keep it as short as possible. I’m really glad I got asked about this though, so thank you so much for the ask <3

Strulung rant?
Ok, so before I start this ramble I want to preface two things. 1) I’m not gonna be able to talk about everything that happened in this era, we’d be here forever and 2) I’m gonna have to simplify some things to make this as concise as humanly possible.
Civil War in Iceland
During this time, Iceland was primarily ruled by chieftains and these chieftains and their families became the most powerful people in the region. The most prominent of these chieftain families was the Sturlungar, hence the name of this era: they have a saga about them. They mainly controlled the west of Iceland. There were other families as well but for this rant's purposes, I'm only going to talk about the Sturlangars.
The battles fought in this era of the civil war were between these chieftain families. To add more fuel to the fire, Norway was also getting involved and Norway wanted to expand its influence in Iceland. That's one of the main reasons the conflict kept going on for as long as it did.
There was a lot of fighting between these clans and it’s considered Iceland's bloodiest century. Some prominent examples include the Battle of Haugsnes, which is the bloodiest battle in Icelandic history, as well as the Battle of the Gulf, the first naval battle in Iceland, something I find very interesting. In the end, Iceland ended up under the Norwegian crown and the rest is history.
Snorri Sturluson: Absolute Menace
He’s the catalyst for a lot of the violence that happened in this era of Icelandic history. He did do some good for Icelandic history keeping as he wrote the Prose Edda which is pretty important. Anyone who knows anything about Norse Mythology knows that the Prose Edda is very significant. It’s considered the most detailed source of knowledge for Norse mythology.
This era primarily started when Snorri was invited to Norway by King Haakon IV. At the time, Snorri was a law speaker of the Icelandic high court and a chieftain of the Sturlungar family clan. When he went to Norway, he became involved with Norwegian politics, and the king asked that Snorri help him bring Iceland under Norwegian rule.
Snorri went back to Iceland, but his loyalty to the Norwegian king was…faulty. That’s the best way to put it. He really didn’t do anything to enforce the king's will. He wasn’t the only chieftain to be a vassal for the Norwegian king, but he was a prominent one.
Snorri eventually fell out of favor with the king and even attempted a coup against him. This coup was unsuccessful and another vassal for the Norwegian king was ordered to kill Snorri. Snorri was killed in his home on September 23rd, 1241z Snorri Sturluson is an interesting guy. I would totally look more into him if you have the free time. He was very important to the era and Icelandic history as a whole.
How is this affecting our boy?
I’ve stated before that I don’t think Iceland officially met Norway until after this era in his history. However, because Norway was involved in this conflict I can see someone believing that Norway had already met Iceland. I choose to go with the former because…angst. Let Iceland go through this alone >:)
This definitely had an impact on Iceland though, this was the first time he saw violence to that degree. Look, the population may have been small, but a civil war is a civil war. He couldn’t have done much. I believe Iceland was mostly a bystander to a lot of the violence. From what we know about Hetalia's civil wars and how those work, he was still heavily affected by the violence.
I do imagine Iceland doesn’t think about this period in life often. He doesn’t like to think about it, if he’s thinking about this century then he’s thinking about meeting Norway. You could even go ahead and say he blocked this time of his life out of his head. Personally, I believe he remembers but he chooses not to think about it. Though it definitely affects him. He was really young when this all happened.
Anyway, so so sorry this took so long. I got this ask December 1st, I’m so sorry anon ;-;
Researching for this was difficult, I had sources contradicting themselves so I had to scrap a lot of further in detail analysis. If there are sturlung era experts out there who wanna help me make a way more in depth analysis then my DMs are open.

Finals are over. LETS GO
I’m on break so I’m gonna be on a roll. I’m working on the Finland analysis rn, no set in stone date for release but it should be done in no more than a week.
Thank y’all for being patient with me during finals. Posts were inconsistent and I’m sorry about that. I have a lot of fun stuff planned though :D
I got a new thing of markers from a gift exchange and decided to draw my boy. This is my 3rd time using these markers and I don’t draw fan art like at all but I hope y’all like him

(His hair is grayer than I actually imagine it to be, he’s more of a blond in my mind but the only blond marker I got are like Denmark blond not Iceland blond)

FINLAND 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Looks like Finland here is my first victim for the character analysis saga of my blog. I’m very excited :D
My next big project is an in-depth character analysis of each of the Nordics! Order in which I make them will be decided via polls.
This is what you can expect from each analysis. I will go over appearances in the manga and analyze panels. Go over key points in history and how I believe it affected each Nordic. All in a similar style to my usual rambles :D
I’m very excited to write these as I absolutely adore the Nordics.
(I’ll add Iceland to the next poll, I love him and he’s my favorite but I just did 3 parts to the historical Iceland analysis. I’m giving myself a tiny break. He’ll be in the next poll.)

Norway Inviting both Iceland and Canada over for christmas and gives them matching sweaters, hot chocolate and cakes<3
That’s sooo cute though 🥺
Canada definitely has a connection to Iceland and Norway. While I don’t think he’s related to them in canon, they obviously have an influence over him. As I’ve stated before with his appearance.
Norway really is just a sweet guy (under his flat nature and blunt ways), if Canada were related to Iceland and Norway then Norway would totally do this. Maybe the even if Canada wasn’t related to them. I’m always a sucker for straying from canon from time to time though. If it makes a good story and makes sense, then yes I have no problem with the idea that Canada is related to Norway and Iceland.
Thank you for the ask <3

Historical Iceland Ramble: Part 3 - Finale
Wow, it’s the last part. It was a long journey. Especially with finals. I loved doing these rambles but I’m also excited for the future. I put a lot of work into these so I hope y’all like them. Especially this one, I did my best <3
I want to start this ramble by first talking about Denmark and Iceland. I mentioned a lot in the previous part that it took them a while to finally warm up to each other and they did genuinely get along. I want to make it known that even though it took a while for them to finally build a relationship. Denmark is one of the closest and most reliable relationships in Iceland's life. They are very close and deeply care about each other. Denmark cared for Iceland when Norway was taken away. I can see why a good chunk of the Nordic fandom believes them to have a father-and-son dynamic. They’re extremely close.
Something I didn’t go over was Norway’s independence from Sweden. It happened in the early 1900s, and I believe this is when Iceland and Norway would’ve been reunited. They wouldn’t be able to see each other as much as they used to. As Iceland was still under Danish rule and Norway was an independent nation, they reunited.
With his brother’s independence, his own just around the corner, and a great bond builder with Denmark, there’s surely nothing that could go wrong.
Before diving into WW2, let’s briefly talk about WW1. Purely because I just didn’t want people to think I forgot about it. This is going to be brief because WW1 didn’t affect Iceland enough to talk about it in extreme detail here. The Nordic countries mainly stayed out of it, and if anything, I believe Iceland was more worried about how his independence movement was going along. If I'm wrong, then tell me, but I couldn't find anything worth mentioning.
Prepare for a lot of WW2 talk because we’re going to be here for a while. I’ll keep this as concise as possible, though.
The majority of the Nordics declared neutrality during WW2, though they were all much more involved with the Second World War than they were with the First one. Sweden was the only Nordic country that managed to remain neutral during the war. Norway and Denmark were invaded in April of 1940, and Finland was fighting the Winter War against the USSR.
With the Nazi occupation of Denmark and Norway, the question in the air was what would happen to Iceland. Iceland was still Danish territory at the time; however, with the invasion of Denmark, Iceland had declared neutrality. Iceland was also very important geographically for the war. So both the UK and Nazi Germany had planned on occupying Iceland. (It's a little iffy on if there was an actual plan to invade on the Nazis' part, but they were interested in occupying Iceland.)
I believe that Iceland knew he was going to be occupied by someone during the war. Ideally, he could stay neutral, but he knew he was geographically important, and either the UK or Nazi Germany was going to occupy him. However, just because he knew it was probably going to happen, doesn't mean he was happy when the English showed up in May 1940. This is where his disdain for England originates. His neutrality was ignored, and to add insult to injury, it was a pathetic invasion. Operation Fork (the codename for the invasion) was laughable, and the British didn't even bother to send anyone who knew Icelandic.
To say Iceland was pissed would be the understatement of the century. He's usually able to contain his anger, as we see in canon that he cools down relatively quickly. However, during WW2 he was just angry all the time. The poor guy couldn't catch a break and made everyone know he was upset about it. This is one of the most, if not the most, stressful periods of Iceland's life. Nazi Germany was occupying the two most important people in his life, and he was currently under a pathetic British occupation.
This is something you’ll see a lot of when researching Iceland during WW2 and that thing is that a lot of historians and sources will state that the occupation of Iceland was an overall positive. I think this is a load of bull, it was a positive for the UK and eventually the USA but not for Iceland. An occupation is an occupation, the positives are being blown out of proportion. Seriously, I’ve seen sources say, “at least Iceland wasn’t occupied by the Nazi’s.” Granted, yeah at least it wasn’t the Nazi’s. Congratulations you put the bar on the floor. I’m not trying to say Iceland had it the worse during WW2 he definitely didn’t. But let’s not try to justify occupations of countries.
Iceland 100% hated occupation. I’ve seen some stories where Iceland was able to stay home during World War 2, some where he went to London and eventually America, and some that just ignore him (sad). Personally, I believe he didn’t get to stay home. He had to live with whoever was occupying him as that seems to fit that rules of Hetalia the best. Now no matter where he is, he is at one of the lowest points of his life.
This is entering a little bit of headcanon territory; however, I believe that the Nordics were not able to contact each other during WW2. If there was any communication, it was with Sweden and Norway or Sweden and Denmark. I can go into detail about that some other time but that’s the conclusion I personally drew. I can see no logical way in how Iceland was able to keep in contact with the rest of the Nordics during WW2. He hadn’t been away from them like this since the Turkish Abductions.
Now the UK couldn't keep occupying Iceland forever, though. They needed their soldiers because it was World War II. They had Canada briefly help with the occupation, however eventually the occupation was put into American hands.
In June of 1941, America took control over the occupation of Iceland. A lot of sources will talk about all the positive impacts of the American occupation. A lot I see are the Americans helped with infrastructure. However, I’ll repeat what I said earlier. An occupation is an occupation. The positives are minuscule, if you couldn’t tell, I hate the positive occupation interpretation.
Now, Iceland most definitely had a disdain for America. America and Iceland’s personalities are ones that would clash OFTEN, especially with the added stress of WW2. Iceland values his independence a lot more than I think people realize, and being under occupation was something he 100% hated.
Now, to figure out how America and Iceland would interact. I looked through some manga panels, and there’s actually a bit we can talk about! Yay I found manga panels to talk about.

While these events do happen in modern day, it is interesting to note that Iceland and America do interact, and Iceland has mentioned him before. I wouldn’t necessarily call them negative interactions, but they’re clearly not positive ones either. Iceland interacts with America when he initiates conversation, but he also tells Finland “that he’s answering too much to America’s expectations.” I find this quote particularly interesting purely because of Iceland's historical relations with NATO. I could be reading too much into things, but hey, that’s why I’m here.
Before I talk more about NATO, we can’t forget Iceland’s independence! Technically Iceland had been acting as a sovereign entity for a while at this point. However, it was still under the Danish crown, but on June 17, 1944, Iceland was officially declared a republic! (On that same day, America officially recognized this independence, so have fun with that.)
Iceland was extremely happy to be independent. I mean, he’s been working towards independence for years at this point. Of course, the joys of independence did have the cloud over it that was WW2. But overall, this brought Iceland a lot of great joy.
After WW2, the Nordics definitely had a very emotional reunion. I can talk more about that some other time, though. With the war over, there needed to be a new world order. Now we enter the Cold War phase of Iceland’s life.
(Ok, y’all can thank @noctupede for this because wow, they helped a lot with NATO research.) The majority of the Icelandic population was actually against joining NATO, and there were riots in Reykjavik during the decision on whether or not Iceland would join the organization. Like how Iceland was important in WW2, Iceland was also very important in the Cold War. Its geographical location made it an important ally to NATO.
Now, Iceland just wanted to be left alone. He wanted to be done with America after the war, and now he’s joining this organization that he doesn’t want to be a part of. He just got his independence, but he felt like he just traded in Denmark’s rule for America’s interference. Not to mention that the American military still had a presence on the island.
Icelandic opinion of NATO did eventually sway positive, but it took a long time. I don’t think Iceland is personally fully on the side of NATO; I believe he still has his resentments even though public opinion is positively skewed. Looking back to what he said to Finland, “You’re answering to America’s expectations too much.” Someone who was a NATO fan wouldn’t say that. Overall, I’d say his opinion of America is two-/sided. He dislikes what America has done and doesn’t like answering to his expectations. However, he doesn’t seem to fully hate the guy. This is just the kind of person Iceland is. He’s a mixed bag with two sides of himself. I have this belief about his character that he rarely ever feels exactly one way about something. There’s always some hot and cold conflict happening.
To emphasize how important Iceland is to NATO, I’m going to briefly talk about cod wars. I’m going to do a post entirely about this at a future date, but for now I’m going to be brief. So essentially, the British were fishing in Icelandic waters, and Iceland was fed up with them doing this. There have been 3 cod wars, and Iceland has “won” each of them. What would happen is that Iceland would pull an “I’m gonna leave NATO card if the UK continues fishing in my water.” This would cause America to freak out, and eventually the UK would have to stop. They eventually lead to the law of the sea; seriously, the cod wars are fascinating. Definitely look into them if you’re interested. The Cod Wars also add to Iceland's hatred for England. Seriously, those two do NOT get along.
Gosh, there’s a lot I’m kind of skimming over; Iceland was a pretty unstable NATO ally. There were secret meetings with the USSR, the public didn’t like NATO, and overall Iceland personally just wanted to be left alone. He had no desire to be in international politics on this level.
I’ll also add that during this period his relationship with the other Nordics really does blossom. For a long time it was really only him, Denmark, and Norway. But now Finland and Sweden are a much bigger part of his life, and they’re obviously very important to him.
Finland even cuts Iceland's hair; it’s really cute and wholesome.

I haven't really talked in detail about Finland and Icelands relationship but it genuinely is so wholesome and sweet. This era that I was went over was when I believe the two became as close as they are. This century really was Iceland opening up and meeting new people, for better and for worse (England).
Modern day, I believe he’s learned to manage his role in international politics. Iceland still struggles with loneliness, but he’s the happiest he’s been in years. There’s a lot more “modern” stuff I could talk about with Iceland, but then this wouldn’t be a historical ramble. If more modern Icelandic rambles are something you want, then don’t be afraid to ask. <3
Thank you so much for reading; this ramble was more just talking history. Very few manga panels, which shocked me. But hopefully you guys still liked it! I want to thank y’all for waiting this long; this is a long post, and it took a while to write.

since you are doing more rambles, what do you think norway and Icelands relationship is with canada? considering viking history? 🇨🇦🤍🗡️
«Archaeological evidence shows that in the early eleventh century CE, the Vikings arrived in Newfoundland and established a small encampment, known today as the UNESCO World Heritage Site L'Anse aux Meadows.»
From: https://www.rom.on.ca/en/collections-research/magazine/vikings-in-canada
Ah yes!!! I’m very glad you asked that :D
I’ve done personal deep dives before on how the Vikings are connected to North America, specifically Canada. Leif Eriksson was the first European to go to the continent. I have a fascination with Leif Eriksson and his dad Erik the Red. Though let’s be real, I’m fascinated by anything Iceland related. Honestly super interesting stuff if you have the free time.
Now with Canada, from what I can pick up on there isn’t a whole lot of interactions between him or the Nordics. Which is unfortunate because of the connection he seems to have with them. I mean physically, Canada seems to have Nordic influence. His eyes remind me of Icelands and the curl, while very different from Norways, could be a hint of Viking influence. I don’t think this is a hint saying he’s related to Norway and Iceland because influence happens even if one isn’t related. Example being England and Hong Kong.
It’s very interesting to think about, sadly I don’t think Canada was around when the Vikings first showed up on the American continent. There’s nothing in canon that supports that theory but it’s a very fun and interesting concept. I would totally read a fanfic about that!
I will also bring up America briefly, his connections to Vikings aren’t as strong as Canada’s, however he had the most interesting relationship with Finland. Finland and Sweden were the first ones to find America and he seems to take some influence from them! Finland even encourages America to call him dad, it’s really sweet.

Both North American brothers are connected to the Nordics in their own ways! Which is something I really love because it connects my continent with the region of the world I’m way too obsessed with.
Thanks for the ask <3

GOOD NEWS 🗣️🗣️🗣️
It’s done!! The Historical Iceland Ramble Part 3 is complete. It is done, finally! I hate making y’all wait but bear with me. I will post it tomorrow December 13 at some point in the morning. I’m super excited about this one, wow it’s long and wow my fingers hurt. (I type this all on my phone and draft it on paper)
Extra good news! I know what my next big project is!!! 🗣️
After Part 3 is posted, I will post a poll. My next big project is an in-depth character analysis of each individual Nordic. (Of course with history and analysis of manga panels, y’all know me) The order in which each post will go out will be decided via poll. More details will be posted later but I’m super excited. So if you’re interested then please vote :D
I’ve gotten some asks about historical stuff. Those are all being worked on, if you asked me a question about something historical related then you’ll get that answered before the first Nordic analysis.

imagine Denmark always joking with norway about 'kidnapping' little Iceland when they were younger, 'oh he's so cute! I am taking him!😆' but then he actually does💀
Barbary Pirates: 👀
That aside, that is a funny concept. I can totally see Denmark joking about something like that. It’s very much in his character, especially when he was younger.
Though the situation with Denmark owning Iceland is a little more complicated than that. Still I admire the humor you have put in my ask box.
Thank you for the ask <3
