A Message Lingers...
It was a spray much like many other sprays.
Choose the spot. Shake the paint. Lay down the stencil. Spray.
It was the first time I got around to spraying outside Fizzy's building... and I was happy with the way the white paint showed up against the red walkway. The paint cloud around the text ended up looking like a conversation bubble - and I was happy for that too.
That evening we left Fizzy's - and our eyeballs and smiles lingered over the message as we took off into the night.
The following evening, Fizzy came home to yellow CAUTION tape surrounding the entrance to her building - as the walkway had been almost entirely repainted:

There are times in life I feel more alive to the idea that I’m in a novel. Sometimes a short story but other times it’s in the depths of something big and long and great. Those moments are usually when there’s a freshness, a marked awareness about me. I’m not lost in the muck of the...

Putnam Ave: A Parking Story / A Little Glory
So I'm doing the drive-around/look-around for a parking spot that will keep my car in the clear until I have to move it Tuesday evening.
  Loopin'. Loopin'.
I see what looks like a possible spot - but definitely tight. I slow but roll by, as there was someone shoveling right where I'd be trying to pull in.
  Loopin'. Loppin'.
I slow by that spot again - and decide to go for it.
I'm cutting my wheel left - arriving at the point where I'm just slightly releasing the break to squeeze in a wee, little bit more. No bumper taps.
I notice a man walking past - and he stops by me. I open my window, "You think I'm gonna make it?"
He smiles, blunt pinched between his index and middle finger - while the other three hold the brim of a red plastic cup, and walks up to the truck in front of my car. Meanwhile I'm still at an angle, brakes fully engaged.
Without removing either the blunt or the red cup, he slides behind the wheel of his truck, door still open, and pumps his car a few inches forward. He calls his friend over - telling him to now move the car behind mine, back some more.
At this point I'm working my calf doing the first gear / reverse and back again dance - wiggling my way in. I tell the man who called his friend over not to worry about it - I think I got it.
I turn the car off - and pass by the two gentlemen who are standing with orange tipped blunts and red plastic cups at the top of a stoop. "I appreciate that - good lookin' out." An Island accent spoke through smiling lips "I got-ta tell yah - you parkin betta than most men."
With no ounce of hesitation, happily took that as a compliment...
