The winter holidays are coming, and what better way to celebrate it than by decorative lights? Many railways in the UK agree, with dressing up their rolling stock in LEDs and other festive decor! It’s a wondrous sight, where families, friends, and strangers gather around to watch the trains run along the lines in bedazzling lights.

And what other railway would fully throw themselves and their engines into the holiday spirit than Sodor? That’s right! @sodorgazette’s 2021 event is coming back, hosted by yours truly- with permission from the mods, of course! The events holds no obligations- you don’t have to sign up, just jump right in with the #sodor lightshow or #sodor lightshow 2024 tag with your art, fic, or even edits following the lightshow and other illumination themes during winter!

The event starts at 2nd of December, with the end date being 8th of January, so mark your calendars, and have a very happy holidays!

Hi, autistic duck fan anon again. Last message, I swear. You don't even necessarily have to answer, I just wanted to say thank you for answering my ask, I was excited and surprised. As to what I prefer from the fandom...I don't think I have a preference, I'm blown away by lots of things people create for this series. I just need the courage to reach out. I may even make my own Thomas blog for fun (could even call it autistic duck fan, lol). Thanks again!

Hi. I've been looking for more Railway Series/Thomas the Tank Engine content so it was nice to find this blog. I've been rewatching seasons 1-5 of the model series and having fun with it. I'm autistic and kinda shy and have had a hard time interacting with this fandom. My personal favorite engine is Duck. I just wish I could be as skilled and efficient and confident in my own work like him. Sorry to send such a long anon, I'm just rambling. Thank you for this wonderful blog.

Sodor Lightshow - Extended!

Hello, all! We’ve been thrilled with the response to the event and fab entries, but with the December rush, some of us haven’t yet found the time to join in...!

So, we’re extending the deadline from the Initial date of the 9th, to the revised 16th of January

It remains no-obligation and up to you if you’d prefer to write or to draw, our only requirements are that it follows the theme for the Engines, and has the Sodor Lightshow tag.

Thank you for the interest, the community has really shown how much love goes into the fan works~ 🚂💖🌟✨

Great question! The idea for this event is a Sodor version of real-life railway lightshows, so engine art makes the most sense for this tag.

That said, you're welcome to borrow the light idea for humanization art if you are so inspired. I'm sure it will be will fun to make and that it will be enjoyed in the general ttte tags!

As the nights get longer and the temperature plummets, what better way to shed more light and warmth into the depths of Winter, but to hop aboard a beautifully lit Steam Engine?!

An event held by several Heritage Railways in England is to dress the Engines and Coaches in multicoloured LEDs, play music, and chuff along the line with the steam catching the lights. The dazzling sight is truly something to behold and tickets sell out quickly!

So it only seems natural to presume that Sodor would run some special Trains with this themeing, doesn’t it?

This event is a no-obligation, generously timelined little tribute, where we celebrate the winter season with art or fic following the Illumination theme with our lads from Sodor.

Start Date: Saturday the 4th of December

End Date: Sunday the 9th of January

But, before he was a Beatle, Ringo (barely) grew up in the school of hard knocks.

Here's one detail that makes pics like the above tug on the heartstrings even just a little bit more:
