He had only been gone a few minutes - it had just been a quick trip downstairs to the shop to grab some bread and he’d thought nothing of leaving his door unlocked. Shearwater may not have been the most upper-class area in Bayhaven but it was nice enough. His neighbours were all fairly polite and he wasn’t actually sure he’d ever seen a policeman there in the two years since he’d come back… Any time he nipped downstairs, whether it was to go to the shop or for a cigarette, he left his door unlocked. Except this time, running on lack of sleep and mounting deadlines, he hadn’t. The door had swung closed behind him as usual, the gentle click alerting him that it had locked.
Yet still, it hadn’t registered that he had no keys, no phone, no way of getting back inside. He’d been completely oblivious until he’d arrived back at his door, loaf of bread in one hand and a not-quite-weather-appropriate ice lolly in the other and tried to turn the handle. “Fuck!” he exclaimed, his foot connecting with the door. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” Pacing didn’t help and, soon enough he accepted his fate. He would have to ask for help. Traipsing back down the stairs, he headed back out into the street, grabbing the first person he saw’s attention. “Hi. Sorry. Hi. Just me. Can I borrow your phone? I need to google something,” he said, as though that explained everything. (@bayhavenstarters)
Oh, if she has to hear one more rendition of Gimme Gimme or I Dreamed A Dream, Sofia may have to genuinely consider euthanisation. They’re talented kids really, but that doesn’t make their song choices any less awful. Still, another work day is over, and she’s heading back home, wrapping her cardigan further around herself when she spots Xander. He doesn’t exactly look happy. Until she moved to Bayhaven, Sofia had never been able to afford her own place; Los Angeles and London aren’t exactly forgiving in terms of rent prices ( one more so than the other... ) but the humble little Shearwater is far more generous. In the excitement of being able to cover her rent and bills on her own, she hadn’t quite realised how much she valued the company of other people. Still, having neighbours that keep her on her toes is a fine substitute for now, and she supposes she should make the most of the privacy; when she goes back home, she knows it’ll be back to living with friends or trying to find a roommate.
“Yeah, sure,” Sofia says the second he addresses her, fishing into her back pocket for her phone and handing it over. “What’s up ? Did something happen ?” she has to ask as she hands her phone over after unlocking it, her brow furrowing as she looks up at him --- and believe her when she says she has to look up at him. Sofia stands at a very unimpressive five-foot-nothing, but at least her lack of flatmate means there’s nobody to laugh at her when she’s standing on the kitchen counter to get into the cupboard. Oh, well. “It should connect to my wifi from here, to be honest. I’ve got data if not.”

Location: The Beach
With: Open { @bayhavenstarters }
Even after being back in Bayhaven for months, Maggie still couldn’t believe she was back in a place she spent most of her childhood in. Being back as an adult was an odd feeling, especially since a few things had changed over the past twenty years. However, one of the things that didn’t change that much were the beaches and for that Maggie was grateful. Ever since she could remember, beaches were her favorite places to be. She spent the morning out on the water doing some research, and was now seated on the shore writing a few things down in her notebook. Noticing a shadow, she looked up to see someone standing nearby. “Excuse me, would you mind taking a few steps to your right for just a moment? You’re casting a shadow so it’s difficult to see what I’m writing.”
To put it kindly, Sofia has looked better. If it weren’t for the fact she’s clearly dressed for a workout, she might look five seconds away from a heart attack as she doubles over to catch her breath, supporting herself by leaning her hands on her thighs until she lifts a hand to wipe the sweat off her forehead. She’s in a complete ( and somewhat sweaty ) world of her own when she hears a voice, and it takes her a moment to find the person it came from. “Huh ? Oh -- sorry !” she quickly moves out the way, flicking the lid off of her water bottle and bringing it to her lips. Sof’s a social creature, and while she’s taking a break from her run, she may as well make conversation if there’s someone’s wiling to play ball. “Writing anything fun ?”

“so my kids have been begging for a dog since they could both talk and I’ve kept telling them no…but now that they’re older, I’m considering it. is that a terrible idea? I mean, I know I’ll probably be the one ending up taking care of it, but it could teach them responsibility too, right?” anya asks, pursing her lips in thought. “what do you think?”
@bayhavenstarters
“You’re asking the wrong girl,” Sofia says with a laugh. In truth, Sofia’s never really spent enough time around kids to know if she likes them or not, or they like her, or what they’re really like ( especially as she doesn’t count the kids at work; she treats them like adults, and that’s why they like her ) but she sure as hell remembers what she was like at Anya’s kids’ ages. Either way, she doesn’t know if her opinion is the most valuable here. “The amount of parents I’ve spoken to at work who’ve said they ended up looking after their kids’ pet after two weeks, though...” she says, lifting her shoulders into a shrug. “But your kids are cool, I’m sure it’d be fine.”

lively chatter and the smell of coffee filled the quaint coffee shop perched happily on the street in shearwater. joaquin frequented the shop whenever he needed to get some writing done, feeling he did his best work when he wasn’t locked away in his cottage, no matter how nice it was. itching for a cigarette, he instead reached out and took a sip of his coffee, taking a moment to look over the customers. he couldn’t help but feel slightly alien among the residents, those who had called bayhaven home for years or who had newly arrived but made the connection instantly.
his eyes fell on a customer now holding their own coffee, they looked around the small place for an empty table but found none, all of them being filled up with couples or groups. joaquin, having nabbed a table near the window, took some pity and raised his hand to catch their attention.
“there’s a seat here, if you want.” his voice was deep but warm, he nodded across the small table to the empty seat opposite him. the table was a little cluttered with his things but he made the move to clean up. ( @bayhavenstarters )
This, it seems, is the story of Sofia’s life. One day, she’d just like to be able to walk into a coffee shop, get herself a drink, and sit down without it being a problem. However, it seems her caffeine cravings are synced with everybody else’s, and her preferred coffee spots in town are obviously the most popular for a reason. In truth, she’s not far from home, and she could make herself a coffee in her apartment ( using the coffee machine she’d purchased in rebellion to this damn country’s obsession with the electric kettle... ) but despite being done with work for the day, it seems awfully antisocial to call it a day and go home so early.
Her hand is curled around a latte as she eyes the nooks and crannies of the coffee shop, hoping to find an empty table or armchair tucked away somewhere, but it appears she’d have more luck selling a steak to a vegan. She’s just about to ask someone if they’d mind her joining them, just while she has her coffee and answers some emails, when she catches a wave out the corner of her eye, and her head turns. Well, that’s very nice. “Thank you,” she says, making her way over to join him at the window. “Your stuff’s fine,” she says as he moves to clear up the table a little; as long as she has room to plant her mug down, she’s not fussed. Emails can be answered on her phone, and she’s not keen to disrupt him. “You might’ve saved me there. Otherwise it was looking like I was torn between the creepy old guy in the corner, or that mom,” she says as she sits down, nodding to a woman a few tables over, a toddler sat opposite her and a baby in a highchair next to her -- both kids are making a small racket, and the poor woman’s trying to wrestle something sticky off of the baby’s face with a wetwipe. Once Sofia’s sat and comfortable, she finally gets a proper look at her newfound coffee companion, and her brow furrows as she pulls her head back. “Have we met ? I’m Sofia.”

—- ☼ (lauren lopez, thirty-one, cis female, she/her.) have you met SOFIA MEDINA? they’ve been living in SHEARWATER for A YEAR now, but are originally from LOS ANGELES. you can catch them working as a DANCE TEACHER & VOCAL COACH, which makes sense as they’re PASSIONATE and DRIVEN, as well as DISTANT and SARCASTIC. keep an eye out for them! (ooc: pace, 21+, gmt, she/her)
‘ello for the third and final time ! pacey back at it again with a Gal. this time w/ the loml, sofia. what’s rlly exciting for me is that i’ve never actually played sof in a group before ? she’s an old ass muse but has only ever been played in like private 1x1 mumu type things, so putting her in a group for the first time ? egg siting. she’s also usually younger, and i’ve never played her single before, so this should be a load of fun ! let’s shake things up, babie.
ABOUT:
as a california girl ( they’re unforgettable !! ) sof’s a long way from home. if she thought she was always cold back home ( and she did ) she since wants to eat her words. so not only is she Suffering w/ the weather ( even after three years of being in the uk ) but everyone else around her will be, too, as she will complain about it, and she’s such a ‘i’m gonna stick my cold hands on you for no reason’ person.
as you can see above, sofia’s been in bayhaven for a year, but she’s been in the uk for three years !
la will always be her home, and it’s definitely more her pace tbh ( and more Suitable for work ) but she’s happy to be in bayhaven for a lil bit. it’s kinda like she’s like getting Living Elsewhere out her system, with the full intention to go ‘home’ eventually. it wasn’t her idea to make the jump to move to the uk, but she was happy to, and then it was her idea to move to bayhaven ! and prolly stay until her visa runs out !
back home, she has a lovely lil’ nuclear family. mom, dad, lil brother, the whole shebang. nice, supportive famalam, nothing too Wild to say there !
she loves her job now, but she unfortunately fell into the horrible stereotype of ‘those who don’t do, teach’ as she was never quite able to make it as a dancer. someone who believes in fate ( i.e. not sof ) might say that everything happens for a reason and things were supposed to happen the way they did, but everything that could’ve lead to a ‘big break’ for her, fell through, including needing to pull out of a dancing gig for a u.s tour for a musician ( i’m not being intentionally vague, i just don’t know who lmao. i’ve always imagined someone Big, but don’t want to be cringey by like… setting a name in stone or w/e ? ) due to breaking her ankle, and turning down the chance to join a respected dance company because her uncle passed away ( and while she hardly knew him and the death didn’t hit her hard, she wanted to be around for her mother ) as it would’ve required her to move away. so, instead, sof went into teaching, using her talent to train the masses. and by masses we mean young dancers aged twelve to sixteen.
the vocal coaching aspect actually happened accidentally. one of the kids she teaches asked her to help her prepare for an audition and run through a song with her… and then it became ongoing… and then another couple of kids asked… and, well, why not ? her voice and training goes to waste otherwise ( and she has like,, a nice strong belty voice that’s perfect for musical theatre, she just never had the interest. think… someone like alison luff, maybe ? great pitch, nice tone, stellar control, hell of a belt on her, ya know – but still seems reasonable that it’d come out of someone as tiny as sof ) and singing in the car and in the shower definitely don’t count. it’s just a bit of extra income, and putting to use a skill that otherwise gets ignored, but it’s something she does properly now, and took with her when she moved both times ! has a website and lil business cards and everythin’ !
she’s an extremely active person. not only does she keep fit and healthy due to ( or because of ) work, but almost all of her hobbies involve some sort of physical activity, and she’s always off doing something. like if she’s not at the gym, she’s at work, if she’s not at work, she’s doing some sort of class, if she’s not there, she’s on a hike, if she’s not there, she’s gone ice skating or rock climbing or god knows what. when she does sit her ass down, she loves a good book and can be partial to the odd tv series — but the problem with sof is that she either wants to watch the darkest, most twisted shit on the planet, or the most light-hearted funny-funny life-is-good-no-frets-just-laughs sitcoms, and there is no in-between. those are her two genres.
she has stats !
and a pinterest board !
CONNECTIONS:
friends: it’s an oldie but a goldie ! but we all need pals ! sofia’s a social creature, loves a night out, could maybe do a with a gym buddy or a hiking pal, those mates that are great for a grumble-about-life session over a coffee, etc etc !
folks she knows through work: if any muses have appropriately aged kids ( little siblings ? cousins ? ) she could teach in her dance classes ? that’s a fun one !
exes: sofia’s the muse i probably have the most wiggle room with when it comes to most kinds of past-encounters, but especially with exes and such ! i’m… really open ? i don’t want to say i’m up for anything but basically that !
#bhintro#☽ *゚ ━ ◣ ooc. ◥#these connection bits were supposed to be Longed and Detailed and Interesting i'm so sorry!!! will update when i'm feeling better!
