Soooo I wanted to address a situation I’ve been noticing in queer advice forums

A lot of advice in online forums is not only completely made up, but also pointlessly detrimental to your self esteem. I’m really tired of this culture of spreading self-loathing and calling it advice. I think that it really hurts young queer people, and it teaches them new things to be self conscious about for no reason. For those of you who have had your self esteem negatively impacted by things like this, I would advise you to keep reading.

See, I’m active in a lot of queer forums as well as in groups irl, and like... If I had half a euro for every time I’ve seen online advice gurus try to share gay dating advice / trans passing advice while rattling off stereotypes, I’d be wealthy enough to buy a small island to which I could flee in order to avoid all of this nonsense.

Although stereotypes do exist, the vast majority of them do not matter to most people irl. They just don’t. I might be slightly more attractive than your average guy, but I’m definitely not an LA 10, so it’s not like I’m just magically an exception to the laws of stereotypes due to being so overwhelmingly gorgeous or smth.

People are not machines. Many of them can understand nuance. As such, most people aren’t going to look at you, immediately snap to a wikipedia list of negative stereotypes, and run down the list of every one that you are. Heck, most people aren’t going to look at you and think anything at all.

All of the “x type of person would NEVER be with y type of person” or “if you’re a y, you need to do x y and z” stuff is complete nonsense. I wasn’t even aware of these stereotypes until I became more active in online queer spaces about a year ago, and you better believe they didn’t cause any problems for my social life irl before I knew about them.

I know that this was vague, mostly because I prefer not to have in-depth discussions about my personal life due to a scare that I had with a particularly-fixated ex-boyfriend a few years back, but if you spend most of your time in online queer spaces, you will have been taught a lot of insecurities about yourself that (almost) nobody who touches grass on a regular basis actually cares about. Please just be aware that it’s basically a circle of chronically online people repackaging their own insecurities and selling them as advice to others in order to make themselves feel better, and try not to let it negatively impact your self esteem.

Tldr; People will like you exactly as you are. Other people will dislike you no matter what you do. Do not change for anyone other than yourself, because your opinion of yourself is the only one that really matters. If you present yourself as you want to be (not how anybody else says you should be), then others will like you.

It is... SO weird to be on break from school now that I’ve transitioned.

I mean I had to go back to school immediately after having surgery this summer, so this is the first time in maybe 11 years that I’ve had a break where like... I’m not using the spare time to desperately claw myself out of hell?

It feels so weird. This must be what relaxation is.

I just had my first full-odds shiny encounter ever!!

I did shiny hunt in previous games, however I always used amulets / chains / w/e in order to do that- this is the first full-odds random encounter.

I was watching a livestream yesterday where a guy ended up talking about receiving unwanted advances, and the chat blew up with people going “god I wish that were me” and “oh so I only have to do ____ for that to happen to me?”

I wish I’d said something but I was actually stunned into silence, I mean I was genuinely speechless. I’ve never seen seemingly ordinary people be that disgusting about this specific issue in real time before, I kinda thought that they were extinct.
