Transmasculine invisibility is pretty misunderstood i fear. I think a better way to put it is Transmasculine erasure.

It's not that we blend in

It's not that lawmakers don't think about us

It's not simply underrepresentation

Our murders are erased as femicide

Violence against us is marked as violence against women

Law makers DO think about us and the laws they make are made to erase us. Laws that talk about trans youth are very often about "saving young girls, preventing mutilation, and preserving fertility" These laws are made to keep us from existing in the first place

We are erased medically as well. Denied fertility and reproductive care because "men don't have uteruses"

We are erased when people in our community don't listen to us or talk about us.

When we are told to be silent and to shut up, we are not invisible, we are being silenced.

Invisibility implies a state of being that we embody rather than acknowledge the Verb that it is. We are Made invisible. It is an Act against us. We are Actively Erased and excluded. From statistics, from discussions, from the news, from support networks.

You can see the violence of it plainly in the reactions to our voices. How angry people get when we demand to be heard and seen and talked about. To be acknowledged. Erasure is not a privilege or a shield. It's actually incredibly violent

Speaking as a survivor of child sex abuse: the world would be a lot better if yall spent less time talking about the ways in which pedophiles should be punished and more time supporting survivors and preventing abuse

I get it, punishment can feel cathartic. I’ve certainly spent time imagining all the ways in which my own abuser might be punished. But ultimately, him dying, or being jailed, or publicly shamed, isn’t actually going to help me nor will it stop more kids from getting hurt in the future.

I don’t want more prisoners. I want free therapy with trauma informed counselors. I want better sex education for young children that teaches them about consent and body autonomy. And I want a society in which I can openly discuss my trauma, or at least as openly as yall discuss the evils of pedophiles

i think the reason people have the view that transmasc people have an easier time passing and are generally more able to be cis passing is because the only transmasc people they perceive to be “really” trans are the cis passing ones. like they look at the whole transmasc community and see a handful of “real” trans men and a bunch of stupid girls playing dress up, so in their mind 100% of us are effortlessly cis passing, because the ones that aren’t just aren’t really trans, and therefore have no idea what its like to suffer as a trans person

there's this well-meaning but I think quite misguided Thing where someone transmasuline whose transition has left them looking, for lack a better term, very conventionally masc - bearded, muscular, liable to be assumed cisgender - will be held up in an argument that essentially goes "lmao you dumbass terfs really want THIS GUY to use the women's bathroom???" as if it's inherently absurd that someone who looks that way would use the women's bathroom. and these tend to get passed around quite a lot to cackle at the stupid terfs who want huge hairy men in women's bathrooms.

and like, let's get one thing straight: no, of course they don't want that guy to use the women's bathroom. they want him to die or detransition; that's their actual goal. they want him to not exist as a trans person. let's just be clear on that.

but the thing that actually bothers me is that this rather steamrolls over the fact that for every transmasuline person who looks like that, there are also transfeminine, nonbinary, and intersex people who look like that and want access to women's bathrooms, and setting up their presence as some kind of absurdity really isn't doing them any favors. nor is it helping the less "passing" trans people who want to use men's bathrooms! this is in fact reinforcing the idea that public bathrooms are a space to be policed based on appearance, that you only gain access to if you can look a certain way.

which is absurd for many reasons, including that it's a fucking bathroom. people are there to piss. ideally anybody should be able to piss next to anybody and we could stop bothering with gender separated bathrooms at all, but in the meantime let's at least not take part in actively encouraging people to decide at a glance who's allowed to piss where.

Posts of fat people are being marked as "sexual content" even more frequently than they used to, but now we have this fun little addition as brought to my attention by a friend;

That's right. Not just blatant kink-shaming, but now, if you make posts about or with fat people, you can now be flagged as "promoting disordered eating"! Multiple completely innocent posts of fat people literally just existing in their own bodies have already been flagged this way.

Raise hell about it. Reblog and share fat content more than ever. Don't let this shitty website tell you that your bodies are "wrong" or that you aren't allowed to exist publicly.

Tumblr staff, if you care about eating disorders (you fucking don't), stop promoting this sense of shame and fear and disgust towards the idea of weight gain. Stop shaming and censoring people for posting about their own bodies and experiences. Fatphobia kills. Fatphobia causes disordered eating. Fatphobia is the disease you should be worried about.

This has also been disproportionately affecting fat trans people, because of course it has.
