What really ticks me off when talking about ai is when people are like "it's unavoidable" or "you'll have to learn to use it someday" or "its going to be part of the future" like no it's plenty avoidable actually if you have a spine stronger than a dandelion. You simply say "no" and continue to use your own goddamn brain.

They try to force books to fit wedges and tags that they do not fit. And it does a disservice to those authors ... They’re like, “Oh, well we have to market it. Oh, we have to get it out there.” And then the book gets out there, and people read it with this expectation, because that’s how it was marketed to them, and then they read the book and it’s not what they thought they were getting—and then the backlash isn’t on the marketing team, it’s the author that has to pay for it ... And that’s not fanfic writers’ fault at all—that’s the industry’s fault for not understanding what they’re dealing with.

Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, let’s talk about your posture-

there are things you should be doing now to prevent yourself from starting to look like 🥀

Why does it matter? Future you would like to avoid the pain, limited motion, and fall risk that goes along with worsening posture.

What’s the focus?

1. Keep the flexibility in your spine

2. Stretch the muscles in the front

3. Strengthen the muscle in the back

Here are some simple things you can do daily while sitting and when you get up to go into the bathroom or the kitchen

Keep the flexibility by doing these repeated movements: 10 repetitions several times a day

The goal is to give yourself a double or triple chin. Keep your nose pointing forward, don’t let it tip up or down

Thoracic extension- use a chair with a seat back that comes up to the level of your shoulder blades. Try to bend back over the top of the chair without arching away from the seat back and without extending your neck. If the pressure from the top of the chair is uncomfortable you can place a towel there

Stretch the muscles in the front by using a door frame. This one will feel good afterwards

If this isn’t enough of a stretch you can do one side at a time. If you have the right arm up step forward with the right foot and turn slightly to the left. Then do it on the other side.

Strengthen the muscles in the back by squeezing your shoulder blades together for a count of 10 and then repeating 10 times. You can do this several times a day Hint: Don’t lift your shoulder blades up

There are lots more exercises for strengthening your back muscles but this is a good starting point and easy to do. I like doing it while driving

Tips:

Do the best you can

If it hurts stop

Envision future you saying thank you each time you do one of the exercises

🥏 TXF Fic Rec #52: "This Is How The World Ends" by Solia

Today’s rec is an epic mystery thriller that reimagines the post-IWTB Mytharc with peak slow-burn MSR angst and an intricately constructed plot that unravels the central conspiracy in a case that could end all cases.

After a slow start, the story hooked me and kept me on the edge of my seat. It’s a masterclass in building tension and suspense, with a labyrinth of threads. The mystery thriller elements in this fic are among the best I’ve read.

On top of that, it features a version of William that I can actually stand behind, plus great use of Maggie Scully, Skinner, and two significant original characters you will care about.

Despite being a 53-chapter WIP that may never be finished, it absolutely deserves a read, and you will lose sleep over it. This is the story that the revival series should have told.

Reminder that kudos are great and all, but comments inspire!!! Comments give serotonin!! Feedback, notes, even just little ramblings on a fanfic will make an author's day, week even. I should know. Whenever I read a fic I enjoy, I try to leave a detailed comment and point out some things that I think were written well, such as symbolisms, parallels, alliterations, characterizations, or even just quotes or phrases that were well written. It can take from a few hours to several months to write something, and sometimes it only takes minutes to read them. That hard work deserves to be appreciated in a way that isn't just, "yeah I liked this fic". PEOPLE. A LITTLE EFFORT IN A COMMENT OR A BOOKMARK CAN MAKE SUCH A HUGE DIFFERENCE!! YES!!! AUTHORS SHOULDN'T NECESSARILY WRITE TO PLEASE PEOPLE, BUT TO KNOW YOUR WORK IS GENUINELY VALUED TO SOME DEGREE IS INCREDIBLY HEARTWARMING AND HUMBLING!!! LIKE, WOW. SOMEONE ACTUALLY TOOK THE TIME TO ENJOY MY SILLY LITTLE HYPERFIXATION RAMBLE THAT IS ACTUALLY IMPORTANT TO ME!!!

I'm very passionate about this. I know too many authors who don't get enough praise for their genius.
