I'm gonna say it. y'all gonna hate it but.... if
tangled goes to Broadway (which I'm really on the fence on nowadays) Denée Benton should play Rapunzel. like... just listen to this and try to tell me she doesn't give off big Rapunzel vibes

If Great Comet was revived on Broadway tomorrow I would cast... (a 4-part series)
part 3: the mostly good people
Tamar Greene as Pierre Bezukhov - Though he’s known on Broadway for being the current George Washington in Hamilton, he was trained as an operatic tenor and classical pianist, training that would lend itself well to doing a good Dust and Ashes. His voice is somewhat similar to Josh’s but with richer lower notes. Also, it’d be nice to have a Pierre that matches Tolstoy’s description of a “a stout, heavily built young man with close-cropped hair” (unlike Groban).

Shereen Pimentel as Natasha Rostova - She did a cover of No One Else with Tyler Capa that was probably one of the best I’ve heard from someone outside the OBC Comet cast. Additionally, Maria in WSS is a very similar role both vocally and acting-wise to Natasha, but it’d be nice to see her in a production that doesn’t cut her big number and doesn’t have a creative team of ignorant white people trying to tackle race and all the other controversy that revival has. Also, the idea of her, Tamar, and Kuhoo harmonizing the “candle in the mirror” part of letters gives me chills (The clarity? the fact that it’d be the first time all 3 are played by people of color? astonishing)

Nora Schell as Sonya Rostova - I watched a few of her performances at bway sessions just out of curiousity and was immediately blown away by the clarity of her tone and, in particular her Waving Through a Window. (I’ve watched it twice despite not being a deh stan in any sense of the word). I thought about putting her as u/s Sonya & Mary but she really deserves a principal role. Her voice is pretty similar to Ashley (aka my favorite Sonya) but with a brighter high belt so she fits the role musically quite well. Additionally, I’ve been a little upset for quite some time at the lack of people who aren’t skinny white women playing the role.

Eden Espinosa as Marya D.: She has experience with weird edgy musicals about Russians directed by Rachel Chavkin (Lempicka) and slightly eccentric, frantic mother-figure roles (Trina, which is also pretty vocally similar to Marya). Few others have both of those things so I think she’s quite a solid pick.

If Great Comet was revived on Broadway tomorrow, I would cast... (a 4-part series)
part 2: troublesome kids
Damon Daunno as Anatole Kuragin - He is attractive and can sing in falsetto. That’s all you need.

Bonnie Milligan as Helene Bezukhova - I think she’d bring a bit more warmth to the role a la Lilli Cooper while also delivering a strong option up at the end of Charming

Cheech Manohar as Dolokhov - I guess I just got the sense from Zoom Much Ado that he has the right energy for the part? Also if he can rap he can talk-sing fast like in Preparations. It would also be interesting for him to get a little out of the nerd typecast he was in for Mean Girls.

If Great Comet was revived on bway tomorrow, I would cast... (a 4-part series)
part 1: Minor characters
Adam Bashian as Andrey/Bolkonsky - I get the sense from Octet that he has a good voice and sadness for Andrey but also the comedic ability for Bolkonsky, perhaps a sadder, more subtle version than previous Old Princes, which would be interesting
Kuhoo Verma as Mary/maidservant/opera singer - Octet has given her both the experience with Malloy at his weirdest musically and experience playing an almost-canonically-lesbian gal with self-confidence issues. I feel like she’d be particularly strong with Mary’s awkwardness and play her as less plaintive and more anxious which seems more relatable IMO

Joseph Keckler as Balaga/servant/opera singer - he was a chaotic Russian in one Malloy show, so he can def do it again. Also, there are only so many guys who can really carry those avant-garde opera vocals

Institutionalized racism
It’s taken us too long to post this on Tumblr, we’re sorry. We’ve compiled a syllabus that is free to all that addresses institutionalized racism and how it’s caused historic, pointed harm at the Black community in the U.S. Understanding history is key to understanding the present, and in order to make real changes, we need to fully understand the racist history of the U.S. Black Lives Matter.
