something that i really like about blue eye samurai, now that im thinking about it, is that it discusses violence against women without becoming torture porn. like, in a lot of media that portrays women's issues, they show you that scene. like they give you this extended visual of a woman experiencing something traumatic and then laud themselves as feminist for doing so.

blue eye samurai doesn't do that. the whole show is set in a world that is extremely antagonistic toward women, and it makes a point to tell you that being a woman right now sucks, because they are property and are used sexually. but even though it doesn't shy away from this, it doesn't show you the violence itself, which you would almost expect it to because of how graphic the rest of the show is.

im thinking specifically of kinuyo. they very well could have shown us a scene of her being abused, but they didn't. they didn't show the abuse itself, but they did show how it affected her. they showed her seeing a doctor for her sores. they could have made this incredibly traumatic and grotesque scene a spectacle, showing us exactly how powerless she is and how powerful he is. they could have shown us this incredibly triggering event in full detail for our entertainment, but they didn't. they chose not to. and i think that's how it should be.

it is not necessary to have an extended visual and auditory reenactment of violence against women. we the audience understood the gravity of the situation and were able to empathize without needing that scene. having that scene would have completely detracted from the point they are trying to make. it would have turned something completely reprehensible that women everywhere fear because it's a very real issue into entertainment.

yeah i feel like it is an actual problem when fandom reduces relationships that women characters have down to "they're gay for each other " when it's more interesting to explore their relationship out of just sexual/romantic attraction. also i have issues with 'representation' as a whole like apparently it's ok when characters of x minority don't get fleshed out or have their character explored because apparently it's "representation" so it should be good enough for character of x minority to even be present right? like i always feel like the bar is on the floor so ppl are jumping for scraps when they're actually just. scraps

I just want to say, when I post about representation in fandom, particularly in regards to gender and race, my point is not "slash shipping is bad" but (among other things) "the popularity of slash shipping and unpopularity of femslash (and the original published fiction equivalents) are not unbiased inevitabilities" and "fandom has a tendency to use the popularity of slash shipping as a cudgel to shut down many critical conversations in the name of representation while dismissing concerns about the active and sometimes hostile lack of representation of female characters and characters of color."

Aww I feel so bad for Maxie but if anybody else hasn’t taken him under their wing I think they’d crawl right back to doc ock. Anyways I've talked about how I see Electro as transfem coded but i lean heavily on the 'coded' part and i think it makes sense if hes also transmasc coded.

Idk historically speaking across the world it was acceptable for a guy to have sex with another guy if he was the top. And usually the top is older. But idk if that’s the case in spectaculars world. Speaking of internalized homophobia i feel like that’s the case with rhino and sandman. Rhino mostly. It’s like yk when some guys try to be so masculine it ends up being gay instead? Like if a guy has huge muscles most ppl who are gonna be complimenting him are gonna be other men? I also think rhino is younger than sandman. Like the impulsiveness and also going after Spider-Man for revenge is like a less mature thing to do than just going for the “big score”. Also the concept of the older one being more restrained and the younger being more impulsive… yeah that's some good stuff. and like I just feel like alex and flint are way too close to be 'just friends'. like when peter met flint as sandman for the first time one of the first things he asked was "where's your partner". like dude. omggg i am unwell even spider-man knows about these two. also i find it interesting how shocker refers to o'hirn and marko (before they were villains) as punks, and how shocker is a professional. like we can clearly see the hierarchy of tombstone's men here. it's really interesting and i had this very clearly in mind when i was considering how the gravedigger fit into tombstone's empire.

Electro: Hes a very very very interesting guy to me. He was practically a nobody and now hes rampaging through the city and refusing to be known as "Max"? Yet yields to Doc ock and him only? LIKEEE the fact he clearly had problems with his mental state beforehand (getting unresonably frustrated when trying pull out that machine part, eddie mentioning "hey well at least you can still yell at the game so hey whats changed?" and just the full rant about what he wanted in his life while talking to eddie.) and now becomign electro being his final straw and just completely snapping. Every little thing hes been bottling up just completely spilling out and him just lashing out completely. AND THE FACT HE THINKS GETTING A CURE WILL MEAN GOING BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN??? like aw hell nah boy. You will have to come to term with your actions and face the conseqences. Your life will never be the same again. You must accept that while u were pushed into unfair circumstances, a large part of it was your own doing. Also I just think hes funny and goofy as hell and I like when he gets cocky with his electric powers. Also hes my wonderful wife

Shocker: Him being the only member of the Sinister 6 that doenst really have a real reason to be there besides being assigned so. He is completely disconnected to spiderman and is really only after him due to orders. He isnt after revenge or anything, just following orderss. Also the tense relationship between him and hammerhead despite the enforcers being the best hired help the big man has? very interesting.... ALSO his bar, the fact it has that rules sign that says shit like "no fighting, no cussing, no gambling" etc etc." YOUR MANAGER LITERALLY MANGES BETTING AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS MF DOESNT CURSE OR FIGHT IN HIS BAR!!!!!. Also the whole "man's responisbilty"..... i hear some toxic masculinity here..... I also find it funny how he cleraly. doesnt get along all too well with the sinister six. Now for them together erm well i have a whole tag for them: #electroshocker but in general, I think they'd be interesting. At first it was a more like. funny thing to me, electro, shocker,, simialr names and such and just how different they are in terms of skill.... but I think their dynamic now has a LOTTTT of potinetal. Like I would imagine if the s6 worked together more consistently, Electro and Shocker would be paired up due to their similar powers and Doc Ock wanting Electro to get a proper handle on his powers. The two getting close since Shocker is the only one who can get close to him and also isnt afraid of getting hurt by him (he's handled far worse I imagine). Maybe becoming drinking buddies at some point (how can electro even drink? um idk but let a guy get drunk, hes been through a lot) and slowly getting intimate in terms of physical touch..... sniffles. but also i magine their dynamic gets shaky as fuck as they both have pretty bad tempers and complicated feelings over relationships and how they handle them. but yeahhhh my freaky awful gay people...
