I’ve seen other people in the Sanders Sides fandom talk about their feelings about Thomas Sanders as a content creator and I thought I’d share mine.

Honestly, as a content creator I don’t idolize Thomas as much as I used to. After seeing him not support the artists he hires properly (ex: Story Time Madlibs & Brei Grace), I don’t think he’s a completely amazing guy (at least in terms of his job and doing business with others).

I also don’t like how Thomas doesn’t exactly communicate well about the status of Sanders Sides. He posts photo updates and still releases random Side videos not related to the season finale, so I guess he’s at least providing some content for Sanders Sides fans. But it’s still not the finale which he’s been working on for a while. If he’s still struggling with writing the finale, it would be nice if he just said so. Or if he doesn’t feel like he can continue the series, I wish he would just say so. I’d just like to hear a honest answer about the state of Sanders Sides, so I don’t have to keep having to wait aimlessly for a finale that might not happen anytime soon or at all, you know?

I still really enjoy Sanders Sides for what the canon episodes and asides provide though, as well as the characters, so I still follow Thomas for updates, make my own fan content, and enjoy looking at other fans content. So I don’t plan on leaving the fandom or anything like that. But I did stop tagging Thomas in my posts and trying to get his attention on my fanart. Since he didn’t exactly properly appreciate artists that worked with him in the past, I don’t want him to see my art as much as I used to. I guess you can say I like thinking of Sanders Sides as separate from its creator. So Character Thomas is also seen as very separate from actual Thomas in my mind as well. The Sanders Sides characters just mean a lot to me, and in my mind I like to imagine them as being my characters rather than actual Thomas’. I know they’ll always be Thomas’ at the end of the day, but imagining the separation helps me enjoy the series for what it is.

Okay so June is shaping up to be great! Twenty one pilots just announced new music (!!!!!), and with deltarune right around the corner and silksong not far behind (🤞🏻) I thought I'd check in on another few fandoms that suffer from Long Awaited Syndrome.

I pretty much left the sanders sides fandom a few months after WTIT came out, because I was losing interest (and 'cause I got sucked into the dsmp fandom, lol). But that doesn't mean I'm not still curious to see what new episodes came out since!

Working through intrusive thoughts was posted in July 2021. In two months, that will be four whole years ago. I had time to get a master's degree since the last official sanders sides episode!

And at first I thought I just wasn't finding it, because there are a lot of videos in the playlist after WTIT. But no, they're all bonus/side content

Now to be fair, a few asides could be counted as mini episodes, a bit like the early, simpler videos. But the others are just, like... song covers. Crossovers. An ad. But anyway, since the last tss episode, we've had 22 videos:

3 bloopers reels

1 special

8 sanders aside

4 incorrect quotes

whatever the fuck the anime intro is

5 "doing an activity with the sides"

And no episode.

While I'm glad that Thomas hasn't completely abandoned the series, that main content : bonus content ratio is wild. And don’t get me wrong, fillers are fun too! I like bloopers and incorrect quotes. But bonus content is supposed to be built around actual content 😭

Is this because the next episode was supposed to be the season finale, and Thomas is blocked on it? Is he just burned out of making serious videos? Are his expectations for the production too high? Is it because some of the team left?

I’m not in the fandom anymore, so I’m not disappointed or mad or anything, mostly just baffled. When I left in 2021, I was already half expecting Thomas the discontinue the series, but not that sort of halfway point

Ultimately, Thomas doesn't owe us any type of content (bar the patreons), and forcing himself to make something he doesn't like probably wouldn't end up great anyway. But I think at this point there's serious questions to be posed about the future of the series.

And the crossover videos seem especially damning to me. Since our last episode, we've had tss in the style of West Anderson, as characters from inside out, inspired by the nightmare before Christmas, as an anime, and covering a song from over the garden wall. To me, it seems like Thomas doesn't want to make the sanders sides, he wants to make something different, but for one reason or another he clings to the characters.

Anyway, I hope we get some answers, one way or another. Especially for the patreons, since it was advertised as helping him make more sasi content. I still follow many people in the fandom, so I'll almost certainly see it when/if the finale releases, I'm still curious to see what I'll look like!

And if we get silksong before the sasi finale you'll hear from me, lmao

Making art, cosplay, song covers, animatics, whole alternate universes just to keep these characters breathing. We’ve done more world-building than Narnia. But canon?? Canon’s off somewhere in a hammock sipping lemonade like “eh, they got it covered.”

I just want Virgil to get a hug. I want Logan to admit he has feelings. I want Janus to be understood. I want Remus to paint something disturbing and then get a juice box. I want Roman to get his confidence back. And Patton—sweet sunshine dad Patton—I want him to finally talk about his guilt instead of hiding behind those bright blue eyes.

So yeah. Five years later. Still here. Still waiting. Still loving this story with our whole emotionally-repressed, fan-crazed hearts. Thomas, if you’re out there… we love you. But please. Please. Feed us.

We are emotionally malnourished.

headcanon that Remus often does unconventional/unethical things to the other sides as a sign of affection/care (even if they don't necessarily see it that way)

Roman doesn't want to do the dishes? Remus just smashed all of them to pieces, no more dishes to do :)

Patton says he's bored? Remus conjured a zombie apocalypse to survive and/or created a Very Real game of The Floor Is Lava so he can have some fun/play a few games.

Logan wants Thomas to be more active? Well he'll definitely be getting his steps in now that Remus has him convinced a monster is chasing him.

Virgil isn't sleeping well? He will be tonight since Remus dosed his food with enough sedatives to put a horse in a coma <3

Janus knows better than to give Remus any ideas, but that doesn't always stop Remus from "helping" in his own way (like that time he burned all of Janus' clothes because he "didn't have anything good to wear")
