Ok so I saw this on r/democratic socialism, and i think that the whole "cool liquor companies" bullshit needs to be addressed. So the general flavor of this post will reside very much in "liquor companies bad" and i guess any "big alcohol" companies can fight me in my dm's.

So anyways, beer and wine companies arent quite as bad and sometimes have slightly problematic commercials where they show drinking as making you cooler or solving problems, but liquor companies know that most of their profits are made off "repeat customers" (aka. long term, hard alcoholics) and not only promote their products to communities where alcoholism is a serious problem (in order to keep alcoholism from leaving said communities), but actively try to foster it in communities where it is not yet a problem in order to drum up more customers. Why do you think most of the funding for pride parades comes from companies like absolut? Why do you think at every pride parade vodka and tequila companies have these huge lavish floats running down the street? Because they know that we, the lgbt community often turned to alcoholism due to our heavily oppressed state in society, so they are trying to tell the lgbt community that if we arent already suffering from alcoholism, that alcohol companies have our best interests in mind, making us more likely to turn to alcohol during hard times. So just a reminder since we are about to go into pride month, if you see an alcohol company funding or actively participating in a parade with you, they are not your friends, they are not your community, they do not have your best interest at heart. All they care about involving you is that you are a potential alcoholic to fund their billions of dollars worth of annual income. They do not care about helping you, they could care less whether or not you have rights (and as a matter of fact it benefits them to keep you oppressed because their profits rise during times of societal suffering), so dont thank them, dont treat them as a benefactor, see through their shitty facade and realize how they view you.

Oh also P.S, if you are currently struggling with alcoholism, remember that reaching out and getting help is a sign of strength and emotional maturity, not weakness.

Lyft just offered me free credits to break the strike this week.

There’s a lyft / uber strike planned this week from 7am to 9pm on Wednesday May 8th. I got a notification this morning that every ride taken this week gives me credit on future rides. I found that tempting but then remembered why they are doing it - to encourage folks to cross a picket line. I for one won’t be taking advantage of this offer, as I stand in solidarity with people utilizing their right to free speech to bargain for better working conditions.

Consider this a friendly reminder to those who follow me that this is happening, and I hope you’ll support the apps’ drivers in their quests for better pay.
