Predictably, Steve reciprocates in the strangest way possible.

“Do you eat pork?” is his opener, jaw set and fists angry, nose red from his walk home from work.

Bucky stares back at him from the toy mat on the floor. “What? Yeah, I’m not seriously observant or anything. Why?”

“Nothing.” Steve’s ears go red though, and this gives him away. He busies himself with the unloading of his groceries, and then whirls around like he’s about to yell, and says quickly, “How ‘bout Christmas day, are you doing anything?”

Jaime tries to drool on to Bucky’s foot but he dodges. “No, I don’t think so. Sometimes my family goes out for Chinese takeout lunch, but no one’s mentioned it yet.”

“Oh,” Steve says, frowning. “Well, I’m sure you’ll want to do that—”

“Steve, if someone invited me for something else, I’m sure I’d be interested,” Bucky says, making an educated guess and trying to stop himself from smiling.

Steve blushes. “Well—okay, if you’re free, you should come for lunch. I’m making lunch. And you should come.”
