Hey what the fuck
Ways to get Jehovahâs Witnesses to fuck off (as written by a former Jehovahâs Witness)
Ask to be put on the Do Not Call list. If you think itâs necessary, ask to watch them get out the territory card and write it down, but realistically, Witnesses in my experience are pretty good about this and the only time it wonât be honored is if someone forgets to check your address or if itâs been like 10+ years
Tell them you are an apostate. They are not allowed to speak to apostates at all, ever, but especially in regards to their beliefs. They arenât supposed to go to places/events where they know apostates will be
Argue with them. Jehovahâs Witnesses are instructed to end the conversation and leave if it becomes clear that someone wants to debate rather than just passively learn and accept that they were wrong before. This might get you put on the DNC list without even asking
DO NOT answer the door naked. You wouldnât think this needs said, but intentionally flashing people is sexual harassment, and Jehovahâs Witnesses frequently preach with childrenâ both as a training thing and because people are more likely to be receptive. They say every JW whoâs preached long-term has gotten a naked householder at least once. Do not do this
DO NOT unleash your dogs in the yard. First off, your dogs arenât as mean as you think they are lol. Second off, almost every JW has been dealing with giant jumpy dogsâ againâ since they were children. Letting loose your dogs will get their dress clothes muddy, possibly tear them, and maybe scare some children/a few adults who will simply pass the door to someone else. It will also make every other dog in the neighborhood start barking. This isnât helping you or anyone else
DO NOT call the police. Evangelizing is fully legal in the United States and JWs are not soliciting anything. Some areas make Witnesses get permits to preach, but thatâs it. One time an elder in my congregation had people raise their hands if theyâve ever had the cops called on them, and it was two thirds of the Hall. Witnesses use these incidents to further their persecution complex. If you call the cops on them, they will absolutely be back next week, even pushier and more determined

adulthood gets such a bad rep and like yeah, a lot of adult things do suck (thanks, capitalism). but i do worry about what constant complaints about adulthood do to depressed kids and teens who feel trapped and sort of like adulthood is the only way out of their current situation.
so let me tell you, in case you haven't heard this ever, that in my experience, being an adult is 100x better than being a kid or teenager. being able to more or less control my living space and who i spend time with, being able to prioritize my health and wellbeing, being able to be who i truly am and pursue my interests and hobbies... all of that is worth the other dumb stuff, and none of it was possible when i was a minor. honestly, I've just gotten happier and happier the older I've gotten.
being an adult is GOOD. and it can be good for you too.

other unpopular opinions: i think a little gender crisis is healthy, even if u end up deciding ur cis. i think more people should have the âoh jeez what AM iâ experience. i just think a gender and/or sexuality crisis should be mandated as part of the teen experience. i think that would make us more compassionate, as a culture.Â

Fun fact about me: my grandfather was one of the first missionaries in my country so you could say that he, along with my grandma, are pretty relevant among all the og jws here. I have noticed that because of this, and also because they are white, my family name is sonewhat considered "superior".
So when I stopped going to the meetings as well and my mom had to show up alone, you'd best believe people panicked.

i donât think people understand that people can âloveâ you and not actually love you
like my grandmother âlovedâ me, but she also was always trying to change me. Â she tried to take me away from my (catholic bisexual) mother. Â she made me wear dresses when i was there. Â she always tried to get me to go to church and was always asking me if i was dating a boy yet
i spent years feeling guilty that i wasnât what she wanted me to be until my mom told me one day âshe never bothered to know the real youâ
and itâs true. Â any time i tried to show her something about myself, even cook for her, it would be dismissed, and a replacement would be offered. Â even northern food was somehow a sin. Â
she loved me what she thought i should be, she never loved me. Â
bc people who love you, they love you for all the stuff that makes you you. Â they never consider that it makes you inconvenient.

AND ANOTHER THING that grinds my gears
the assumption that being a Christian is a guarantee of betterness
my mother would say, of annoying people, âwell, at least sheâs a Christian! it could be worseâ. that the quality of an organisation or business or person being Christian elevated it somehow, made it safer and better and purer.
likewise, someone not being Christian was to be pitied and lamented, or feared. thereâs something wrong with NOT being a Christian.
frankly I wondered if she went to the same church I did because Iâve seen the behaviour of plenty of Christians and it doesnât guarantee shit

for the record, ânot feeling anythingâ is a valid and not unusual response to trauma or grief
so if you feel empty and devoid of feeling, itâs not because youâre a cold and uncaring person.
