Senior Copywriter
Tumblr media
Someoddpilot is hiring a Senior Copywriter to join our growing creative team and lead across a variety of clients and projects. In this role, you are the creator of the spoken and written word, a catalyst of big ideas, and an advisor throughout the entire creative process while working alongside strategists, designers, and our production team. You have a firm grasp on marketing strategies up and down the funnel, and a strong point-of-view on how to bring language to life across platforms, channels and touchpoints. Writing copy and overseeing creative for multiple clients at the same time, you’re able to snap into the work while staying authentic to each brand’s voice, tone, and style. You are highly adaptable, a creative yet tactful writer, a tuned-in taste-maker of culture, a solid editor, and accessible mentor.
About Someoddpilot
Someoddpilot is an independent creative agency based in Chicago, with outposts in LA, NY, and Nashville. We launched in 1999 as an indie record label, and that DIY spirit has guided us ever since. We've learned that while no one actively seeks out marketing, we do love finding value and meaning in the many cultures that surround us. So we help brands mean more by deepening their connection to people and expanding their cultural and business value.
We work on a range of projects — from branding, to integrated campaigns, to full-tilt productions (with the help of our in-house crew), to digital experiences and purpose-driven initiatives.
And our HQ in Wicker Park is more than a studio. We’re a community hub. Public Works is our sister brand, where we stage our own art and design shows, performances, apparel launches, and parties.
Importantly, our partners are people who want to stand for something and do good. Current clients include Patagonia, Smith Optics, Chaco, FootJoy, Savers, Fjallraven, Davines, Figo, Klaviyo, FX, Interior Define, Steelcase, Half Acre Beer and Chance the Rapper.
The Role
This role requires adept writing abilities in brand-level messaging and positioning, campaigns, scripts, social, manifestos, digital, case studies, and more. Essentially, you must be willing and ready to write it all. Experience with integrated marketing campaigns is required along with a desire to present to and collaborate with clients. The ability to manage your own timelines is a priority, as this role will juggle projects and deadlines with the expectation of being highly flexible as you work with multiple teams across many disciplines.
Responsibilities
Be a leader for content and creative teams, from the initial brainstorm to the client’s final sign-off.
Create and write authentic pieces of content that resonate with our clients and help them transform their brand, no matter the platform
Conceptualize and create campaigns for major brands that speak to a variety of audiences across multiple channels, while ensuring they align to marketing strategies
Establish top-level brand positioning for clients including taglines, brand purpose, voice & tone documentation, manifestos, and more
Present and communicate with clients to get on the same page and get them excited about the work
Come to the brainstorms with ideas, concepts, language, treatments, references, sketches and an intent to lead brainstorms
Collaborate with clients, other agencies, and SOP internal teams to distill many voices into one unified and cohesive message
Pivot between many projects and work in tight timelines to deliver polished copy that doesn't require multiple rewrites
Work extensively with Public Works to help bring exhibitions, live shows, apparel, and other unconventional copy to life
Write both independently and in group settings with a focus on creating the best piece of creative that means more
Switch effortlessly between tone and write from a range of voices – including sincere, comedic, technical, and everything in between
Requirements
5+ years in a creative writing role at an agency, marketing firm, or brand-side
Integrated campaign experience is a must, brand development is desired
Strong grasp of brand-level and campaign writing including social, digital, and production
Powerful conceptual and creative thinker
Ability to write for multiple brands and industries, for a variety of audiences
A natural storyteller with an ability to understand the bigger picture
Flexibility—happier wearing many hats
Positivity—views challenges as opportunities for growth
We are an equal opportunity employer, and strongly value diversity in our team. This is a happy company full of people who respect each other and like making things together.
