Don't know how to do something? Look it up.

See a piece of news mentioned on social media? Look it up.

Not sure if something is making it to the broader public consciousness, either because you don't see it much or you see people saying nobody is talking about it? Look it up.

Don't know what a word means? Look it up.

It will make you a better reader and a better writer, but it will also just make you more equipped to cope with the world.

So often, I see people talking about something as though it is the first time anyone has ever acknowledged it, when I've been reading reports about it on the news for months or years. Or I see someone totally misinterpreting an argument because they clearly don't know what a word means--or, on the other hand, making an argument that doesn't make sense because they aren't using words the right way.

Look things up! Check the news (the real news, not random people on social media)! Do your research! You (and the world) will be better for it.

my little brother tried to show me a "cool trick" where he entered my name and hometown into chatgpt and tried to get it to pull up my personal info like it did on all of his friends, then was absolutely shocked when it couldn't find anything on me

so. keep practicing basic internet safety, guys. it still works. don't put your personal info on social media, keep all your accounts on private, turn off ai scraping on every site that you can, enable all privacy features on social media apps. our info still can be protected, we have to keep fighting for control

thank you for speaking out about the wave of Feel Good Stuff coming from a lot of cis people right now. i know they mean well but i've just become a miserable person about it, though i think very understandably so.

i'm mostly bedridden & disabled & i got a few "hope you're doing alright, you're valid" type messages from friends recently. like: no, i'm not alright. i know i'm valid. i'm very sick. i need funds to survive while i try to figure out my Mystery Illnesses. you know this, Person-Who-Has-Messaged-Me. kind words don't improve my credit score and don't stave off homelessness!

The "Feel Good Stuff" from cis people only makes me feel better if they are also Doing Real Shit to help trans people.

And this kinda goes for everything right now, like YEAH SURE your "You're Valid!" / "I Appreciate You!" sentiments toward minority are nice and all but have you actually done anything? Have you even like any of the multitude of free ways to help those minority groups?

But... yeah, GOOD VIBES only work if they come from a REAL PLACE meanwhile the multitude of generic platitudes sent out are basically worthless.

This is not for you.

This is a post aimed at me and other people who constantly fall into guilt spirals over all the things they can’t do, and feel they should somehow magically be able to do anyway.

For me, and for the others, this is a gentle reminder:

- Posts asking for monetary donations are speaking to people who have money. Not your broke ass, still worrying how to buy food next month.

- Posts asking you to care about [extreme injustice of the day] are speaking to people who have energy to care. Not you, hanging onto your sanity by the fingernails. 

And, most importantly: posts telling you that you are horrible/cheap/awful/rude/unworthy/unlikable if you don’t pay/reblog/signal boost/care? Those posts can fucking die in a fire.

TL;DR: Posts asking for shit you are not physically or mentally able to give?
