SOOJIN RELEASES SECOND SOLO MINI ALBUM ‘FOR MY;’

For her first comeback since her solo debut in 2016, SPICED’s Soojin returns with her 2nd Mini Album, ‘For My;’. This album has three themes— “for my fans”, “loved ones” and “self”, acting as both a gift and a revelation to not a ‘new’ Soojin but rather another side of her, with sentimental ballads and laidback pop. Soojin told her stories by writing the lyrics for all songs on the album. The title track, ‘Holiday’ is a luxurious, dreamy R&B featuring Jace from labelmate group reBØL, enticing listeners to fall into the relaxing atmosphere of the album. Songs composed by Soojin include the pre-released ‘Star’, ‘Fly Away’, and bonus track ‘Get Out’.  Other tracks are ‘Cheers’, which describes the melancholic feelings of trying to forget, and ‘Thinking Bout U’, a dance track more like her previous style. It is then followed by the playful ‘디라리람 (Circle)’, which questions self-image and the pressure to conform. The bonus track ‘Get Out’ is only available on physical copies of the album. All songs showcase Soojin’s musical ability as both creator and performer. ‘For My;’ is an unexpected yet personal present for all who listen, a fresh breath of air for the Summer just passed and a warm embrace for the Winter to come.

DM RECORDS RELEASES FIRST EVER COMPANY HOLIDAY ALBUM

For the first time since the company’s opening in November 2008, DM Records has released a holiday album featuring songs from their various artists. Groups such as Spiced, L:OVELESS, reBØL, Pandora, Orpheus, AST✫RAL, and upcoming debut group HYPE have participated, along with soloists under the label and even actors. Physical copies and digital downloads of the album are available for purchase, and CEO Han Jiyoung has previously announced that their participating artists would be hosting a V-Live on December 22nd to perform their songs and interact with fans.

Fans have requested a company-wide holiday album for years now, and those that have waited are far from disappointed with the release. Many are impressed with the number of original songs and tastefully done covers of classics, both in English and Korean. Though not all artists were able to participate, efforts were made to ensure the inclusion of actors, models, trainees and even Spiced member Minni who recently departed from the group and company. For both enthusiastic fans and casual listeners alike, the album has been a perfect addition to the holiday season.

+ MINNI LEAVES SPICED DUE TO ‘HEALTH REASONS’

Ahn Minhee, also known as Smiley Spice, has revealed in an emotional fancafe post that she has departed from the group. This comes as a shock to some, who were anticipating her comeback post-absence from ‘Prism’ promotions; others, however, foresaw this due to the fact she did not participate in the comeback. Regardless of anything, fans around the world are devastated to see the rapper and dancer leave the group. She was one of the three remaining original members left in the group after the 2013 departure of founding members, Zen and Dohee. Although, Minni claims that she is leaving for strictly health related reasons, many fans (as well as anti’s), have speculated there is more to it–in particular, the current scandal bubbling involving the group’s maknae. Whatever the reason, we still hope that you all will continue to extend love to her and Spiced.

Here is what a DM Records representative said:

Earlier this morning, Minni released a statement on Spiced’s fancafe that she has left the group, and we are here to confirm that. The decision wasn’t one she came to lightly, and it took months for her to come to this conclusion. She now joins Zen and Dohee as a graduated members of Spiced, and we wish her the best on all of her future endeavors. Spiced will continue on as a four piece group, and are in absolutely no talks to disband. Spektrum will now consist of SS and WS, and RED will consist of PS and CS. We hope that you guys will embrace this change, and continue to love this group despite the current climate of things.  We also hope that you give plenty of love and encouragement to Minni as she begins her road of recovery. Thank you!

On behalf of all your fans, we’d like to thank you Minni for almost a decade of entertainment. Your contributions to your group and the industry will forever live on. Keeping shining.

Poor Gemi. Minni was the first person she met as a trainee, and then to be told about Zen and Dohee together…must be so tough to see her go.

I really can’t believe you guys call yourselves fans….attacking Harlowe instead of loving on MINNI and the girls when she needs it?! Disgusting.

I’m not saying it’s Harlowe’s fault, but she’s just had a lot going on. Health issues plus having to deal with her drama probably drove the girl crazy  ㅎㅎㅎㅎ

A hot chai latte, slender hands wrapped cosily around the mug, and a less than quiet kitchen. There’s still plenty of time for her to get ready, but she still feels anxious watching the seconds pass. Today is just another day for the idol, as would tomorrow be, and the day after. She suddenly wishes Hyesoo hadn’t left so early for her schedule, or that one of the other members would walk in the front door. Soojin has always been comfortable with her own company, but today was different.

The year is nearly at its end. It has been so filled, nearly overflowing, with comebacks and events and scandals, that she wonders how much she truly cherishes. Finally the group’s so-called ‘least talented’ had taken part in their releases, musically and visually. Her vocals are strengthening too, she can feel it. Yet something felt off-- strange, or empty. It isn’t the former company who won’t let them go, nor the decreasing presence of a member. 

Soojin can’t fully appreciate what she has achieved, when she spent the whole time lying. How much of herself is a mask, what everyone else wants to see? Has she taken her image too far, and forgotten who she was before she became Pretty Spice? These four years she’s told herself she’s fine not experiencing love, that work comes first and she must make Kim Soojin someone the public would look upon fondly. She has let down the messaged of Spiced, and allowed herself to be designed by the expectations of society.

She’s lonely, she realizes. Only seeing what she wants to see, and shying from anything that could cause ripples in her calm. Soojin has no right to seek the comfort of others when she has never been there for them. She needs to stop being so cautious, and needs to find out who she is. There’s only so much time left, and another year of pretend might just suffocate her. 

Soojin sighs, closes her eyes, and takes a sip of her chai. She still has so much to do.

mimicking the other’s actions, harlowe leaned in closer to the dancer, piling on to the developing suspense following her words. horoscopes were a funny thing to her– despite being a person that believed in nearly everything under the sun (and even in universes beyond it), she didn’t take horoscopes as a valid source of information like others did. an interesting source of information, sure, but her delving in it was often as a form of entertainment or a last ditch attempt at finding a solution to her mystical woes. “well, it said that tensions would rise between capricorns and cancers– so i don’t think that you should’ve gotten mad with me. it wasn’t my fault, the alignment of the planets is to blame here,” she bluffed, blinking with doe eyes in a subtle attempt at using her maknae charms. “i dunno, something stupid. i say we just do it anyway. who cares, right?”

soojin prided herself on her ladylike mannerisms; refined elegance, ballet trained gracefulness, and so on. she was admired for it, mostly. and her mother of course, being the former actress she was, praised her beloved daughter on how she was just the epitome of ‘lady’. what happened next in this conversation would not be noted down by historians-- a rather sudden, unflattering snort followed by a fit of giggles. she didn’t know what to blame it on more, hyesoo’s words or remarkable expression as she said them. “so i guess, you cannot blame me for being emotional. i’m just being a cancer.” soojin was still grinning at this, unable to remain serious. “nobody cares what we do. not a single human being. we can do whatever the hell we like. let’s get wild.”

+ SPICED HOLDS THEIR FIRST OFFICIAL SHOWCASE FOR ‘PRISM’ 

Five days after the release of their latest mini album, Prism, Spiced has held their first showcase for this comeback. There was some delay to their showcase due to the group ensuring the comfort and health of member Smiley Spice before promotions began. Although, it was obviously a difficult night for the girls without their member onstage with them, they all put their heart into their performances, and truly gave Red Hots a night to remember.

Leader Gemi made announcements on behalf of the group during the evening. First, she thanked everyone who attended the Charity Event two weeks ago, before going in to talk about their upcoming promotions for ‘Prism’. She revealed that the group was set to promote on Inkigayo and Music Bank, as well as gave an insight about the type of scheduling they should expect from the group. Red Hots should look forward to more variety shows appearances than normal, as well as various amounts of photoshoots, and other activities from the girls–solo and group, alike. The group will not see a shortage of scheduling despite one member not being active, as well as being in the middle of a growing scandal. Gemi also hinted at mini projects by the girls to showcase “different sides” of themselves during this comeback. All in all, Spiced fans seem to have a lot to look forward to despite current circumstances within and surrounding the group currently. Please continue to support Spiced as you always have, and send lot of love and wishes of better health to member Smiley!

A small chuckle surpassed through her lips. “I know.” There was a hint of amusement in her voice. Each time, when people complimented, told her they loved her, she would give the exact same answer instead of staying quiet. And after those words, the female stood up and went back to the coffee machine, opening the cupboard above it to take two large cups from there. There were only large cups existing in her cupboard; more coffee fit in them and it was nice to be able to have two hands holding the cup, the warm coffee warming them on cold weathers. Pouring the coffee in the cups, filling them half and half, she ended up staring at them for a few seconds before placing them on the table where the female was sitting. And followed by the coffee, the milk and sugar appeared on the table as well. Chaeyeong had no idea how the other wanted her coffee and instead of bothering to ask, she decided to put everything you need for coffee on the table and see what the older would choose.

The singer could relate to her feelings. She has never been in love; only had flings and two serious relationships, but they only lasted for a couple of months. The time was too short for her to fall in love. “An actor? How did they look like?” She was only asking to try and connect the description to faces she has seen. Idols were already out of the list, she only needed a few details and maybe she would have the chance to know who was she talking about. Soojin’s question almost caused her to choke on her own saliva. “What is crushing?” She was chuckling again, obviously joking with her question. She has crushed on idols before, yes. On both guys and girls. And she has even managed to date an idol who isn’t in the business any longer. But would she reveal such a huge to her friend who was drunk? “I mean, sure. I have crushed on idols, but I usually push those feelings away. And most of the time, those feelings grow once I have gotten to know them better.”

Soojin had half the mind to consider asking Chaeyeong exactly what kind of table she was leaning on, because to her it felt as comfortable as a sweet, soft pillow. She could fall asleep at that table, in that very position. And she probably would’ve, had it not been for the overriding of emotions and promising buzz of caffeine. As the scent wafted by she had no choice but to raise her head, a small smile growing at the sight of her cup. It felt like an awful lot for her to have to decide the milk and sugar, but somehow she figured it out. A generous amount of milk, but only half a spoon of sugar. Whilst there honestly was no difference in taste between half or one sugar, it was more for her own peace of mind. Being an idol and all it was best that she controlled her sugar intake, unlike the last time she met with Chaeyeong.

“Black hair. Korean.” Her expression was serious, before Soojin broke into a fit of soft giggles. She then heaved a sigh, pressing her pleasantly warm cup against her cheek. “It doesn’t matter who they are, anymore. They’re already long gone. Never to meet eyes again.” And there it was, back in full swing. Almost like she was still drinking she took a depressed chug of her coffee. More alcohol would be nice, but coffee would have to do for now. “This is a good coffee.” Because even in this state she could appreciate what she was given. “Crushing is a mistake.” Soojin answered with a wry smile, chin resting in palm. Having emotional attachment to people in general was the mistake, but she was so full of love and admiration for certain people that she couldn’t close herself off that much. “That is very understandable. I can understand that very much.” Hearing Chaeyeong admit to it was still nice, and had she been somewhat sober she might’ve remembered it for later. Soojin had no idea what tomorrow held. “I just wish it were easier, you know. But being what I am... it’s impossible.”

CHAEYEONG ATTENDS TO SPICED’S ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT!

SPICED had their annual charity event held on 17th of August, where many different artists performed either of their own songs or covers to show their support for the good caus and of course, Chaeyeong douln’t miss it out despite it being a surprise to the audience because of the recent change in her career. 

Instead of performing her own songs and standing on the stage all by herself, she joined SPICED’s Soojin ( @sooojin​ ) on stage and covered Ariana Grande’s Greedy with her, showcasing a great chemisty with the fellow singer plus proving once again she can perform more than ballads and owns a good English skills.

 The event perfectly happened almost a week after her single album release Peace Day and we’re sure people will look out for her name ( if they didn’t already know her ) after the great performance she gave to the audience

SPICED holds their annual charity concert + original song release!

For the third year in a row, SPICED held their charity concert on the 17th, and also their first since signing to their new label DM Records. Though fans were nervous for the event following the news of Smiley Spice’s hiatus, many were pleased to see that the group maintained their same lively energy and stellar performance ability despite being down a member. Though she did not perform, Smiley was in attendance of the concert and gave a speech during.

Among the many performances of the day, SPICED performed No Love, Go, and Mind Games off their recent album Denouement, along with 6th Sense, I LOVE U, and Falling Down. Exclusive to concert attendees, they performed 1 More Day for the first time, a song recorded specifically for their concert related to this year’s focus on domestic violence. Due to Smiley Spice’s hiatus, the song only features four of the members.

After months of little activity, it was refreshing to see the girls on stage again, especially after the recent controversy between the members and their former CEO Yoo Minjoon. With their next comeback rapidly approaching, Red Hots are anxiously anticipating how the group will shine in the spotlight yet again.

There was this look of disbelief on her facial features once hearing the female denying words. Drunken words. Despite not being one of those people who liked to get drunk often, she had friends who were friends with alcohol and it taught her how to point out if someone was drunk; slurred words, they smelled like those toxic liquids and when their bodies were asking for support, they would put literally all of their weights on her. “You smell like someone who drank a little too much.” Chaeyeong pointed out with a chuckle and despite the other’s words, telling how she was able to walk on her, she still walked behind the other, only to pass her quickly once arriving in the kitchen. She didn’t even dare to hide the pan behind her back. Boldly, she put it in the cabinet where she took it from and focused more on making their coffees while listening to Soojin. Yes, first she planned to make coffee to herself but once figuring out the other was drunk, she changed her mind; what a kind friend she was.

A small chuckle passed through her lips once in a while when she looked at the other, seeing her sitting on a chair made the artist stare at her friend’s facial features for a few seconds before turning back to focus on the coffee. “Are you sure about that?” The artist inquired, and instead of standing any longer, she moved to sit down across the other, while the coffee machine’s sounds filled her ears “Who are they anyway? An idol?”

As already established, Soojin was in quite a state. Somewhere in the middle of her very important rant she’d noticed the pan which, for some reason had been in Chaeyeong’s hands but now was not. The idol blinked, once. It would be nice to just keep her eyes closed. She wondered if maybe the pan was a sign to stop keeping her sexuality a secret. A pan. It must’ve had something to do with her homosexuality. Then Soojin realised that was a strange conclusion to come to. There were much better things to do with pans than use them as tools to expose one’s sexuality. “Are you making coffee?” She wasn’t slow. “You’re the best. I love you.” Once the thought of coffee rose there was no way she could stop thinking about it. All she needed right now was a hot coffee loaded with sugar. And a shower, apparently. And probably to go home in case she was embarrassing herself. 

“One thousand percent sure. Love has never worked out for me.” Her arm stretched over the bench, head dropping on top with her brain giving a dizzy whirl. Soojin’s poor luck with relationships purely had to do with her lack of trust in people, and her ongoing persistence in maintaining whatever image she’d built of herself. Though, one could say her current actions were the opposite of her ‘image’. “I think they were an... actor? I’ve seen them at music shows but I know they aren’t in a group or anything.” Her gaze flickered up to Chaeyeong. “Have you crushed on an idol before? There are so many beautiful people, you know, and when they’re in the same field as you it’s kinda like ‘oh my god we could totally connect’. But it’s so, like, risky. You know? Any kind of dating is risky but also, like. People can be really beautiful and great on stage but you don’t know them until you know them.”

“you know, kids in school actually tried to make fun of my height?” she said with a light laugh. “i guess the boys were insecure and the girls were jealous. now, of course, being tall is a good thing. i’d look great regardless but something about my height really completes my image.” goddess, angel, pretty spice. people tossed around all sorts of names for her these days. she tried not to let it get to her head, and the hate was simply not worth her breath. “what’s it like being not tall?” soojin looked over the younger idol. she wasn’t too short, really. she’d certainly seen shorter. “is it easy to buy jeans for you, or are the legs too long?”

“and…?” soojin leaned in, all the more curious with each ticking second. something about horoscopes was absolutely fascinating to the idol, despite hearing peoples’ doubts and criticisms about its authenticity. that probably only encouraged her interest, alongside hyesoo’s own influence. spiced’s maknae was useful for more than simply her musical talent. “should we do it? is now the time? or are we doomed to fail?” putting her faith in the stars was a little far fetched when soojin thought about it, which is why she just didn’t think about it. ironically, this could be correlated to a few of her life choices.

+ SPICED TO HOLD THEIR ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT ON AUGUST 17TH! 

The girls’ much awaited and anticipated third annual charity event will take place on the 17th of this month. It has been confirmed by their managers that this year will feature various artists as special guests! While the lineup has not been released, we know that we can expect great group, solo, and crossover performances as we have in the years prior. As always, all the ticket and merchandising proceeds will be donated to The Spiced Foundation! 

** Due to reasons simply referred to ‘personal issues’, member Smiley is unfortunately unable to perform with the group onstage. However, she is set to make an appearance, more than likely as a speaker for the event.
