I just got deferred, any tips 😭 also I have no clue what to put in a loci bc I’m not the type of person to win awards…
Hey! I got deferred too and then got in regular decision: they accept a lot of athletes and legacy early decision, and I don’t have any evidence but I’m pretty sure if you need financial aid that also decreases your early decision acceptance probability.
I made sure to go to my representative’s meetings! I sent him an email on what I was doing too, of course, which I believe I sent in the spring. I sent him a math meme I had to make for my math club/class and it turns out he was in math club too and loved my email. He responded a few weeks late.
Just work hard at the things you already do and double-down. You don’t need to win anything, you just need to progress in activities you care about; be able to share this progress in a way that shows how much your activities matter to you, and be sure to translate that so it shows through in your LOCI. And of course, keep your grades up. Best of luck, because luck is definitely a factor in admissions, and remember; whatever happens, you’re already a very impressive student. :)

Are there any pros to living in Morriss Hall?? Mochamp didn't get a lot of love in your dorm guide
I lived in MoChamp my freshman year and I loved it! This was mostly because of the people. I know MoChamp isn't as nice as Andrews but I wouldn't have traded my experience, mostly because of the people but also for other reasons. For example, there are benefits to being able to go to a dining hall (V-Dub) without going outside when it's cold (because it's in the basement). Keeney dorms do not have that. Plus, the MoChamp common lounge areas for each floor are really well-built for social interaction, which is great for first years. There's also laundry rooms on each floor, which I know my Wriston Quad housing does not have. Lastly, the MoChamp Lounge on the first floor is an amazing study spot. I don't think it's open to students who don't live there anymore, so definitely that's a big advantage for MoChamp residents! Enjoy it :)

Hey, waitlisted applicant here. Brown was and remains my top choice. I sent a letter to Dean Powell expressing my love for Brown but was wondering if there may be anything else I could do to bolster my chances of hearing good news in May.
I am not a college counselor, but I would suggest you email your specific admissions counselor for your region with an update of impressive things you've been doing and information on how you've maintained or ideally increased your grades so far this semester. Don't just say you love Brown, make yourself an attractive applicant and potentially appeal to your admissions counselor's interests. Best of luck!

How do you find parties to go to?
I’ve seen your guide with all the frats, do you just go walking around on a weekend checking if there’s a party in a building? Are they welcoming to random people?
Answer: I wouldn’t recommend doing that, I know some people who find parties that way and on larger party days it could work! However it’s a bad way to make friends because people will judge you for showing up, say, at a small house party where you do not know people, plus Brown party life is too unpredictable for this to be a consistent method. I would suggest befriending somebody in a fraternity or sorority or at least having a connection where they can inform you of things going on, this is a pretty good option. I don’t know about the sororities, but the fraternities have mailing lists you can ask to join! There are also sports house parties, and if you know somebody on the sports teams, even club sports, that is also a good method. There are parties at Small Victories which you pay for, and you can find those on Instagram, but people don’t really go to those much after Sophomore year. There is also this new app Fayble which people use to invites others to parties at Brown, and you can share the link with friends to invite them to an event :)

Are there good yoga classes at Brown or good studios nearby?
Hi! There are classes at the Nelson Gym Center at different levels (you can find more information on the Brown recreation website) and I know a few people who like to do pilates a couple times a week in a place on Wayland Avenue! I can get you more information about their favorite instructors if you would like! I'm pretty sure they enjoy more than just a few in case some don't work with your schedule :)

I FUCKING GOT IN SOMEHOW LETS GOOOO BROWN ENGINEERING 2028 NOW I NEED TO FIGURE OUT FINANCIAL AID
Congratulations haha!! It's very exciting :) A few admins have experience with being engineering TAs here so if you have any questions about that plz ask, also about financial aid
I know Brown didn't offer me as much aid as other schools when I got in, but then I showed them how much aid another school gave me and I got around $10k more from Brown! I'm guessing you're an early decision applicant so I don't know that this applies, but the moral is you can contest the award they give you and potentially get more money

I don't have access to the original images, unfortunately. And I've accidentally deleted your other ask (and in the future please use the ask tool and not the submission tool) but that building in the last part of the header is Sayles.
It’s probably been a while, but do you have the original images from the header? I’m specifically interested in the third one (the guy with the umbrella).
Huh. I’m not sure which one you mean?

from anon: help i beg
Someone give me ideas for why brown in one sentence.
response: the open curriculum is a unique feature of brown that really lets you study what you want both within and outside your concentration and lets you learn from experts in niche fields in a way that’s accessible to you usually regardless of your previous experience!

Just wondering if you know how wheelchair accessible the campus and dorms are at Brown?
It’s not a completely inaccessible campus but it’s not the most accessible. It is on a hill and most of the older buildings aren’t as accessible and there’s curbs and stairs all over the place and using/finding ramps takes significantly longer. There are ramps into most places, though. I know the newer buildings are made with more accessible features (like the newer dorms) and elevators are present for most dorms except a handful (like New Pembroke if I’m not mistaken).

Hi, I just got a defer for the early decision, but Brown is my TOP choice and I'm willing to give another shot. Is there anything I can do, such as asking the AO about the decision and doing more activities? Thanks a lot, I really do love Brown.
Hey! Being deferred is tough, and to be honest there really is nothing to be done about it. The best thing to do is just wait - there is most definitely still hope. (I was also deferred early and then accepted during the regular decisions.)
Treat yourself with kindness these next few months as you wait. Doing even more activities will only burn you out during an already tough year. It’s not worth losing yourself snd your mental health to a process that you can’t really control.

Is it true that 30% of orgo 2 students get an A in the class?
maybe it was true at some point, for one class. but grade distribution changes wildly between each semester of orgo 2, since each professor defines their own grade cutoffs and such
