So.....I drew this for Zukaang week, and when I went to double check the prompts to remind myself which one I'd had in mind while working on it, and none of the prompts match this. And there's no free day. So I kind of fucked up. Guess I could've shared this weeks ago when I'd finished it originally; oh well.

Anyway, dandelions remind me of Zukaang. Dandelions are yellow and sunny and relate to fire in that way, but then when they become the puff balls and their seeds float on the breeze, they're like air. It's a flower that encompasses both of them.

Wanted to pay homage to one of the best OCs out there, and what better way to do that than through Tarot Card art?

The Magician might not seem like an obvious choice for Lu Da, but it felt immediately right when I was thinking about where he might be in a deck. In traditional gameplay not only is there a literal element to the Magician’s depiction as a sleight-of-hand artist — one of Lu Da’s many skills — but there’s the additional ‘trickiness’ of the card and how players might use it, especially in conjunction with other wild cards.

In occult traditions and for purposes of divination, key symbols and themes associated with The Magician include willpower, manifestation, and potential. Often this is interpreted through a spiritual lens, but it seems equally fitting for a nonbender on the fringes of society who happens to “bend” the elements and circumstances around him to suit his needs.

If drawn reversed The Magician of course becomes representative of discord, lack of fulfillment, and mental distress. Of being overpowered by the elements rather than a manipulator of them. All of which Lu Da experiences along his journey as a complex and conflicted character.

The hourglass, the ship’s-helm-as-halo, his crossed fingers, the crossbow bolt pointed forward but with Lu Da himself looking back… those little details I leave up for others to interpret. 😉

If you'd told me that the only contribution I'd have for MerMay in the last two years would be a Tahno as an eel merman, I'd probably say yeah, that tracks.

So, while I was working on this drawing, @erisenyo let me read some of their fic Work To Be Done, Before Drowning. And the ideas they'd expanded upon from the ask that started it all had me hooked and my brain sparkling even more than it had been initially. I don't want to spoil anything (I've rewritten this paragraph a half a dozen times absolutely gushing about everything that made me go feral over this idea), but I couldn't help but to make another drawing, this time inspired by their writing.

Go read their fic. It's fantastic and unsettling and intriguing.

While this isn't exactly fufiling the prompt of 'first kill' for @atlararepairmonth, it does very much go hand in hand with the previous drawing to tell a completed story. If the first drawing is telling Hahn's version of the events, then this is Sokka's.

I find Zutara to be particularly hard to draw. I don't really know why. But I absolutely struggled with the both of them. They both could use some work still. Maybe I'll finish this later one day.

So, @erisenyo sent me an ask about Sokka/Hahn for the prompt of 'first kill' and boy did that make my brain sparkle like a disco ball. The idea of an AU in which Sokka and Hahn team up and hunt down Zhao for what he did to the moon spirit (and subsequentially leading to Yue's death) really held so much potential.

So here it is, the aftermath of their first kill, for @atlararepairmonth (with more to come later).

It is finished!

I've been slowly working away at making Baba Yaga's house for a bit over a month, and I am so pleased with how it turned out. She is made from the cardboard of cereal boxes and cosmetics packaging, air dry clay, wire, and moss, painted with acrylics.

This was a bit of a learning experience for me, because I primarily work two dimensionally and rarely do sculpting attempts work out in the way I hope they will. She's far from perfect, but I kind of like that Bout her. I doubt the old crone would bother with keeping her home in tip top shape anyway. She's got more important things to do, like being tricked by hardworking and good natured children, or dealing with meddlesome Ivan's.
