The chair frame was designed to last a lifetime but over time, seat pads, casters and gas mechanisms need replacing.

As we're based in Central London, moving around the capital is straightforward: we can undertake some repairs on-site or we can take your chairs away and work on them in our studio in Waterloo, then drop them back once they're repaired and ready to go back into action.

I was really happy recently to receive an enquiry for a vintage Supporto Task Chair from a valued client of mine.

I decided to use one of my oldest frames as a starting point. This would involve a sticker removal process followed by a multi-stage hand polish to restore the cast aluminium frame.

All pins and gases were replaced along with the pads. On a project like this I always use authentic Supporto replacement parts which helps with vintage chairs in the future when decent provenance is required.

This example used Camira fabric in the colour Girder which is a kind of gun metal colour: essentially black, with grey-green tones.

The beauty of vintage Supporto chairs lies in the ability to replace parts fairly quickly and easily while keeping a beautiful vintage chair, which should hopefully last you a lifetime. This one is no exception.

It’s about time this stylish stalwart of our space makes way for some new items.

Anyone who has followed SØREN&FABER over the years would have seen this gorgeous old drinks machine appear multiple times. This is a great prop but after going to a furniture festival a couple of years ago, seeing a guy who takes machines like this, brings them back to life and then either uses the inside as storage or adds neon or strip lights inside, the possibilities are endless. Creative thinking required...or just sit it in the corner and tell everyone how it was made in Lytham St. Anne’s in the UK in the 1950s to be used in the Danish market then brought back to the UK 20 years ago and used as a film prop.

We’re going sideboarding again at Søren&Faber

In my search of some lovely sideboards, I’ve found a few new ones and in particular, this Gunni Omann teak sideboard which was designed for Axel Christensen (ACO Møbler), in Denmark.

It’s a two metre teak sideboard/credenza from the 1960s with a large amount of storage behind four large sliding doors. The doors are fitted with the most beautiful curled-back handles which reveal openings of adjustable shelves and removable drawers. Very handy, very stylish

The cabinet is supported by four cylindrical tapered legs. In my research when buying furniture, I’ve come across a large quantity of lower sideboards in this style and even one which is of the same size but with small legs but this one is a particularly rare example. It has elegance and style yet it’s robust and plentiful in the storage it offers. A fantastic addition to any living environment. The wood comes up beautifully when polished and oiled.

Time to relax at Søren&Faber

I brought this absolute gem over from Northern Germany, probably of Danish descent, and it’s been straight out on hire. It did a sterling job, and we’re not surprised…fantastically unique in a gorgeous wood and with a lovely big drawer to store bits in too. Incredibly photogenic, this graces industrial, mid-century modern and minimal spaces with aplomb. No sooner was it back at base taking a breather from the shoot that someone bought it from sorenfaber.com and it was shipped to New York for the next leg of it’’s life’s journey...

A desk job at Søren&Faber

This came over from Denmark about two years ago and since then it’s been used for photography, it’s been used as my desk and it’s been used to bring a bit of a stylish lift to anywhere that is seen to be lacking. 

Designed way back in mid-century by Torben Valeur and Henning Jensen, this oozed cool when it was launched and it still does today.

The most amazing shape with the classic cut out section at the back which enables it to be used to divide a room, this is a desk manufactured in rosewood and designed like only the Scandinavians can design. Solid, stylish and the kind of desk which in 40-50 years, will still look as good as it does today.

Coffee (table) time at Søren&Faber

This absolutely gorgeous walnut coffee table by Kean & Scott of Birmingham has already been used to help Liberty to decorate the Old Control Tower for Revival at Goodwood and from what we heard, it did a sterling job with some other Søren&Faber items. We were asked to source some coffee tables so among the few which I found was this beauty.

Designed and manufactured in the early 1960s in Birmingham, UK.

We’re all smiles at Søren&Faber

I’ve always wanted one of these and have finally managed to nail one in Denmark. ‘The Smile’ coffee table by Johannes Andersen is an absolute design classic and has the most beautiful shape and grain of wood. Stylish in the extreme, we’ve just got to arrange to get it back to London from Denmark which is making us a tad anxious but afterwards, we’ll all be smiling again.

Terence Woodgate at Søren&Faber

Historically found at SCP, we’ve been lucky enough to have this classic beauty in the SE1 shop for a while where people can come and sit while browsing the furniture on sale. 

Our recently departed airport sofa by Geoffrey Harcourt has now left us with no option but to sell this as we’re almost out of sofas again and from the people that have been lucky enough to feel the comfort and quality of the grey wool, they’ve all testified that it truly is a classic piece of sublime seatage!

A modern take on a chaise longue, this would also have been designed to form part of a modular seating system if required, with another one these making an L-shaped sofa or a shorter one to seal the open end off. We like it just the way it is though, and we can envisage it in a white room, minimalist environment with you draped across it, drinking from a goblet of wine, being fed grapes while watching your favourite TV programme. As we said, a modern take on a classic chaise longue...
