Akane’s wonderful, perfect dress which is an eye-candy for me turned into an ulster coat. giving Oldkane a cane was just a preference of mine + i thought it would be nice to give him something with the same gems aesthetic. also we have like five different old people (six if we count old Phi) and one pre-old in zeroscape and only one of them had a cane. the pre-old one. when he was younger.

also btw only when i was drawing this i realised that Oldkane and Luna have a bow of same-ish color in literally the same place. fun detail!

June’s hair is a bit complicated. I wanted to keep the bun since it’s 999!Akane’s signature detail, so i also came up with pins that keep that bun in place. because of it he kinda looks bald on one side lol. and yes he has a mullet that could be put in a small ponytail for ztd. also i gave him a flower earring to compensate for the decorations in Kanny’s hair.

ztd!Akane’s belt went down, since for mens’ kimonos it’s closer to the hip and it’s also thinner than womens’ belt. works for formal trousers. also yes the patterns are still there but i’m too lazy to make them lmao-

i have no real interest in reading or writing Eragon fic but i do believe that any flavor of non-dragon/non-magic AU should convert Saphira into Eragon's human qpr life partner. like. they have negative sexual/romantic attraction to each other but sleep in the same bed and get a bit unhinged if they go more than 24 hours or so apart. they get married for legal/power of medical attorney reasons. they met at like a random grocery store or something.

Rereading eragon right now and brother. Eragon’s a baby. He’s literally 15 years old, he’s this big 🤏🏻. I first read this book when I was 12, and reading it as a Grown Up 22 Year old is WILD.

Mm okay deltarune musings time. A thought on the Man and why they're 'invisible'.

I feel like there's a potential misdirect in the name/title 'Man'.

I'm wondering if it's not Man (Signifier: Masculine) but instead Man (Signifier: Human).

This is *mostly* a thought brought on by Chapter 4's Egg Room. Given Kris' strained relationship to other humans (See: their discomfort and quick shutting of the book containing images of unfamilar humans), and the way that Chapter 4's room positions itself as a memory of some kind of hospital hosting an 'art club' (almost certainly a name for 'art therapy' that's supposed to not freak out the kids prescribed it), one can assume that this (and perhaps previous egg rooms, given Kris always enters them alone, and they are very dubiously 'real' spaces), is perhaps some form of projected memory of Kris', manifesting in the dark world.

The Forgotten Man is defined by being 1. Forgotten and 2. Unable to be Seen. I would posit, however, to question how much of this functional invisibility is Kris being literally unable to see them, and how much is Kris refusing to see them. Like how they refuse to look at other humans, even in photograph form.

The Forgotten Man also appears to be capable of 'existing' in the light world, which lends credence to the idea that they are perhaps the dark world animating Kris' memory of a lightner (rather than an object), though obviously the idea that they're 'literally' in the light world in the chapter 2 interaction is dubious too.*

Now, as for their cheery demeanor and placement in the Art Club (being explicitly tied to the easel Kris draws/fails to draw a depiction of them on), are they, perhaps, a therapist? Are they a human specialist (both in being a human who is a specialist. and also someone who specialises in treating humans?) brought in to hometown to help Kris process what happened with Dess?

A continuation of DR's themes of Adults as somewhat alien, and frequently not particularly trustable or consistent figures. Of being authority figures who may discuss you in private. (And not tell you the whole story) The idea of the first human Kris ever meets being a medical professional brought in because theyre Having Problems. It's clinical, it's weird, it's not naturalistic-- it's something to want to forget even if the person was nice, was welcoming, did genuinely only ever have your best interests in mind...?

*The eggs being consistent between light/dark world, but behaving somewhat oddly in the light world (reappearing in places, being moved around outside of our control)-- Seemingly also in reference to the Cat Petterz un-deletable eggs, which are distinctly not real... Plus the way you are Light World Kris to begin with in Mancountry (what a specific name! I can't help but think of this in a similar vein to when xenofiction and other animal stories refer to human settlements or people as 'man-somethings')... I think trying to 'logic' this one out instead of working on a Thematic Level is a fool's errand. I don't think any of this lends itself well to Literal Interpretation.

Anyway. I don't think I have a solid answer on where I'm going with this. Just thoughts about it. So. Hummmm. Hum! ... I feel like this ties in to the human-monster connection Susie might have going on (why does she bleed) and the Skeletal Theming the Knight has (do monsters have bones??) on account of this feeling like it's relevant to the continued blurring of lines between human and monster (both being grouped under lightner) and the blurring between lightner and darkner (see: gerson and whatever the fuck is happening with the Knight). But like. Lol. Lmao. Get back to me on that one in a bit because my thoughts there are WAY too half-baked rn.

at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"

which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

yet another reason why queer romance in media that is very subtle or more queer-coding than actual explicit rep is so much more compelling than the wealth of straight stories that are out there is bc I think a lot of romance writers forget that you have to like. show not tell. and imply things. and if you hustle things along and put two characters together for the sake of it instead of really working to build their relationship and show how well they work with each other it's not really going to be as interesting to people. and for some reason, a staggering amount of people do not know how to write romance properly so you get a very bland forced dynamic that either feels like an afterthought (he's a boy and she's a girl, hey they could be together because that's what happens!) or the only thing that matters about their characters (see her? she's the Love Interest. that is all she's there for)

however if you're being censored and you literally can't make your characters say "I love you" or kiss or maybe even hold hands you're going to have to come up with more creative ways to tell your audience that they're in love and that usually results in the most poetic beautiful stuff you've ever seen that's SO much more interesting than two characters who make eye contact and go into the slow-mo rose petals scene that's basically screaming at you "hey look at these two. they're in love. you're supposed to be invested in their relationship now. do you get it?" eye contact held for slightly too long in an emotional scene is more compelling. a hand very lightly touching their back is WAY more compelling.

and might I add this is not even impossible to achieve with uncensored straight romances at all like Pride & Prejudice is wildly popular for this exact reason. how many times have I seen people going insane over the hand flex scene. they didn't even kiss in that movie unless you count the extended ending. and everyone loves it. because it's done RIGHT.

tldr; romance is hard to write and you have to put in the effort if you want people to care about your ship. now go forth and imply something

QUICK EDIT TO ADD ALSO when things are more subtle that gives people more space to interpret the dynamic as whatever they want. something might be subtle because that's all they're allowed to show, but something might be subtle because that literally what it's supposed to be. as an aroace person I personally see a LOT of queerplatonic vibes from more subtly played relationships and it's so incredibly exciting and heartwarming for me. and that's a whole new realm of relationship that I think should also be given more attention

hi. BIG fan of the idea that junpei regularly wakes up from nightmares of the timelines where he isn't able to save akane, pre and post ztd.

water fills his lungs as he feels a warm slash on his back. he holds akane in his arms and grips her tighter and tighter but shes turning to dust in his hands. he closes his eyes and suddenly theres nothing there anymore. what was he holding? why is he crying?

he feels the burning of the incinerator rising up his shoulders. he feels akanes tears fall down his face as she stares down at the monitor. he blinks and her hair is on fire. he reaches out and he blinks the ash from his eyes and again shes gone. shes gone.

shes turning her back from him and slamming the gas pedal as the tires screech across the nevada desert. she is gone
